  1. Aspenarb, that kitchen worktop looks really good. What wood is it?
  2. Tbh, I can't really see the point of watching people run/ swim/row/ jump etc... It just seems a bit boring.... The only good part is watching birds in tight Lycra.
  3. Always good to see someone join the site to recommend a service that has nothing to do with the thread.... What's for tea tonight? A nice SPAM fritter?
  4. It seems like removing the paint is expensive and could involve a lot of hard work. There is also no guarantee of the results... How about seeing if the local architectural salvage yard has something similar? I'd be trying petrol to remove it. Or leave it outside to the elements for a couple of years.
  5. I've got a report in front of me where someone has used Google maps... Google seem fairly relaxed about people using their maps. https://www.google.co.uk/permissions/geoguidelines.html
  6. How about taking a screenshot from Google maps?
  7. Tbh, I think something like this has to be put down to experience... I'd leave bad feedback and forget it. What was being sold anyway? If it was a family heirloom I could type of understand not selling it cheap.
  8. I've never used a Kania trap but have been successful with live catch traps. It's a hassle checking them every day but if you've prebaited the trap for a week or so you're more or less guaranteed to catch them when you do set the trap. I find peanuts are a good bait A shotgun is also good for getting rid of them.
  9. Yeah we do need a decent Opposition for democracy to work. It just seems Labour have given up on winning elections and are content being on the sidelines. There does seem a disconnect between Labour and traditionally Labour voters. I can see UKIP becoming the real Opposition.
  10. Anyone else having a sly chuckle at how Corbyn is pulling the Labour Party apart? I can see Labour splitting into two and giving us Tory governments for the rest of time.
  11. How about using boiling water?
  12. I know where you are coming from. However a lot of the Middle East carriers get free/ cheap fuel... It is preposterous that someone filing their chainsaw up with petrol pays more fuel tax than someone filling up their 747.
  13. How about approaching the local forest managers in your area? Perhaps Scottish Woodlands, Tillhill, Bell Ingram?
  14. The problem of taxing aviation fuel is that airplanes would just get fuelled up when they land in foreign airports where there is no fuel tax... The government has a tax (air passenger duty) on air tickets but it's not high enough imho.... Nicola Sturgeon plans to reduce air passenger duty for Scottish airports. It would be good for Scottish airports but is hardly environmentally friendly. For a lot of British people it's hard to get to London. Any new airport should be in the centre of the country next to a high speed rail line.
  15. LOL, this is when you have to laugh at the Guardian. 100 people killed in Europe over the last two weeks by terrorists, but the Guardian writes an article about hate crime that focuses on wolf whistlers. The sooner that newspaper goes out of business the better.
  16. I know someone that was there at the attacks. She said there was shooting at one of the side roads as well. People were running away from the shooting to where the truck attack was happening.
  17. They believe their holy book was written by god. I can absolutely guarantee that if a scholar starts rewriting it he will be killed. If a scholar starts criticising it he will get killed. How many times do you have to get punched before you realise you're in a fight?
  18. The Israelis lock suspects up for years if a military officer considers them a threat. It's not ideal, but I don't really see an alternative. The entire Middle East is a tinderbox and they keep a lid on things by having a brutal police state. You step out of line there and you spend a long time in a very brutal jail... I had a Jordanian mate that was a communist and he went on a protest march, he was arrested and spent a few days in prison.
  19. My heart goes out to the French. Yet another terrorist attack and 84 dead. The authorities will really have to sort this problem...
  20. I'm a "hobby" forester, at the moment I'm clearing bracken from areas where I've planted trees. I can't help you with rates, however tips I've learned are: 1. Pulling the bracken up can be easier than cutting. When you cut long bracken you sometimes tend to hack the same bracken into pieces. 2. When you are looking for the next tree stick your head down about 4 feet above ground level where the bracken is just stems.
  21. I had the same dilemma. My thought process was that the trees had to be big enough to look after themselves when the stake goes rotten. When will the stakes rot to nothing? Maybe another 7 years? I'd be looking to replace at least some of them with a tree that suits your ground conditions.
  22. Apart from squirrel I cant think of any mammal that would "eat" bark more than circa 6 foot above ground level.... I understand the squirrels gnaw bark for food/ to wear teeth down/ boredom/ stress.
  23. I see the last shooter in America was killed by a bomb on a robotic device. It's like something from the movies.
  24. There's always two sides to every story. Neither of us know what Mr Stubby senior said to this guy.
  25. I've some taps that I want fitted to my bath. A decent plumber could probably do the job in twenty minutes. I'd still consider that £50 to do the job would be a fair price. I don't think £130 to cut a tree down and cart it away is an unreasonable sum (admittedly I haven't seen it though).
