  1. How old a truck would you be happy with?
  2. Elvis? Ive been called many things in my time, never that. Oh yeah and the bird in the butty van is quite fit too.
  3. Well a cheesey pig is the single most devine way to start a day. Two burgers, with melted cheese, four bits of bacon, two long sausages, cut in half then sliced lengthways, and egg, then some shrooms and maybe some onions with a dash of sauce mashed into the biggest bread bap imaginable. Oh yeah and wear overalls as it will get your shirt.
  4. Ok, so we will agree a day is 8 working hours WHAT?????? When would you get time for a cheesey pig? And morning break? And dinner? And a nap at half 2? And afternoon tea? You do realise the slave trade was abolished years ago?
  5. Mr. Stihlben. Many thanks for looking for me though. Bloomin sisters, tut. I know whats it like, got one myself. Fair play to you for giving someone else a chance. How long have you been wood turning? Dave
  6. Eye for an eye, shoot the cat. What a beautiful bird. Shame. If my dog went walking itself about killing things id be in the s*** and it would have to be chained up and muzzled at all times. Its about time cat owners took responsibility for their animals.
  7. Sorry for being stupid as dont get involved in chipping and stuff. But how come 100 tonne of wood can make 400 tonne of chip?
  8. Mr stihlben, Not wanting to stand on any toes or anything but earlier in the thread you mentioned you may have a spare lathe or two? If its two or matt for some reason doesnt want one could i possibly put my name down on the list please. Had a go like 15 years ago at school, quite enjoyed it, but just havent had chance to get a go since. Many regards Dave
  9. Well added cornish wood burner.
  10. What a load of rubbish! I agree with agrimob. Its nothing to do with the tractors themselves. The amount of jobs i go to where a farmer has dumped the old bale trailer in the hedge for ten months, decided he needed to use it so off he goes, brakes siezed on with a load of dry straw on and oh look, big fire. Immersed wet brakes do not like high speeds and when you have a loaded trailer pushing you it only ends in accelerated wear. A few years ago there was a big uk wide initiative to test the average braking efficiency of agricultural vehicle trailed equipment. It was a shuddering 8%!!! Also ag tyres are great in mud, but really not that clever on road, especially wet roads. Speed rating of ag tyres arent half as fast as what people drive. So basically i disagree with raising the speed limit. And i also believe there should be some sort of inspection or test for ag kit. My dads lorrys and trailers has to have an mot every year and a service inspection every six weeks, some ag equipment is running heavier and faster and have to do nothing. There is actually no legal limit for tyres on ag.
  11. Parallel thread, dowty seal or copper washer, no sealant. Tapered thread, use a liquid, non hardening sealer, cant remember the number but i use a loctite product for diesel. Doesnt set so can be taken apart again. I am very weary of ptfe as it can break up when screwed together, have had hydraulic problems on a machine in the past and the velves were all jammed up with ptfe tape. I know this is on hydraulics but modern common rail diesels do not like any contaminants at all. Hope this helps
  12. Parallel or tapered thread?
  13. Also learn to resharpen before you blue them out.j Totally agree. I use dormar or presto, whichever colin supplies me usually. I have found that all these sn coated and titanium to be no better than hss. A correctly shapened (118 degrees) hss, USED AT THE RIGHT SPEED, with cutting lube, pushed square with sensible amount of force to be the best out there. For mild steel use 23,000 divided by ( pi x dia ). And have a set ground to 130 degrees for stainless. But you do get what you pay for.
  14. I took it to my mate with the laptop and he did something to the egr anyway. Uncles disco making the noise, as he said, oh well its under warranty. Has anyone had any trouble with ground clearance? As for vw's.... Well..... Had a brand new van 3 years ago and basically the long and the short of it is i have replaced it with another van, not a vw, and swore to the sales manager i will never go into any of their dealerships ever again. There are only two good vw vans. One is a burning one and the other one is one just falling out of a scrap baler.
  15. Had a d3 with a rattle on top of the engine and went back, apparantly its the fins in the side of the air box. They just took them out and fine. Egr went at about 100k, blanked it off. Compressor and seemed to be very heavy on brake light bulb consumption. Uncle has a d4 and handbrake isnt the best, occasionly make a nasty grinding noise. But having said that both good trucks. As for vw's wouldnt have one if you paid me to have one.
  16. Horizontal with a log lift. Thats what i do. Easy. No lifting or hard manual labour. Get up on the stack, kick it on, and if you make it right, use the lift as a log bed. Proper job. Put some rings through a while ago, well over 2 foot diameter.
  17. Maybe. Or maybe something to do with the visitors to the steam fair?
  18. Its all to the quality i would expect if i was buying. All same length, 9 - 9 1/2 inches. Anything over about two and a half inches have been split. Was cut last winter and stacked in round timber since. Is there such a thing as an industry standard for firewood. Like iso 9001 or something but for firewood. Good advice. Might hang on to it for a bit longer.
  19. Just saw where your from. One of the 'trade stand' sellers from gdsf?
  20. Seem to have an excess of split ash firewood accumulating. Dont know if i have time or tenacity to sell to end user. Just wondering if any suppliers buy from third parties?
  21. Grip fill, pink grip, no more nails, its all good
  22. Think i know the engine youre on about. Will try and post some pictures tomorrow as i have several in bits. Does that have a cast iron or aluminium flywheel?
  23. Good idea. I like it. Sounds like a good excuse to go for a milkshake
  24. I found from my experience that when transporting files dont just sling them in your tool box and let them roll around as when you need it, it will be useless. Just something i found from being lazy.
  25. I think i know who you mean. Up the hill a bit and round the corner a bit?
