  1. is it plain steel or does it have a "rilsan" coating
  2. Star shape? With a round hole up the middle of the inner shaft? Thats usually used on high power consumption machinery. Roughly how many hp you using as maybe changing shaft would be more conveniant and cheaper
  3. Any pictures of said shaft? Could be an overrun clutch. Does it have several springs bolted around it. Could be any of the above, or maybe a roll pin through the yoke. What shape shaft you running?
  4. From experience bio diesel is not good. Im pretty sure most diesels contain it as a matter of course now, but like oils, you get what you pay for. Had some really rough cherry delivered a few years ago, everything was blocking filters. Even my beloved old caddy was struggling. As an occasional user of two stroke machinery, after quizzing eddie with loads of questions, i tried aspen. First day out, felt better, no head aches, went to use my stone saw nearlly a year later, thinking oh yeah, let the fun and games begin, fair play second pull. Havent had to replace any of the fuel system or adjust any carb settings. Dont know any of the science, but aspen works for me.
  5. Most tractors are relatively straight forward if you just stop, step back and think. As an ag engineer with experience mainly in the red i can vouch for how realtively straight forward they are to other colours. Some of the 300 series had a quick release coupling for the refrigerant system, however these are usually siezed solid. Check pto splines and all seals while in there, make a 'starting handle' to go on pto shaft at rear for assistance in aligning splines. Grease splines on gearbox and dont forget to block the front axle.
  6. Perfect viewing with a cup of tea chief
  7. Evening all. Anyone have or used a Ford Ransomes c79 cultivator? I have been offered one that needs 'rescuing'. Its all there but a bit rough, no problems. Few pivot pins broke but im sure i can make some with greasers in so they dont sieze and shear again. However there are some linkage pivot bolts that are broke. Its like a round headed bolt with a stepped head, short thread with a slot in the end. It appears it forms the linkage pivot so the arm can move through the inside. Any idea if these are available off the shelf? Anyone ever made any? Any other bits available? I wouldnt like to see it scrapped, i like old stuff, things were built better, 'when i were lad' All the best Dave

    Swap shop

Wanted Top of the range fully automated processor with a log lift, deck, conveyor and non english speaking slave, i mean labourer Swap for tossed out chainsaw and rusty old axe
  9. Good strong machine. Just watch back diff. Probably down to driver error but changed two now.
  10. Atf to dexron III spec is 34 viscosity, so not much difference there. However hydraulic oil does contain a lot important detergents and chemicals, anti foam, anti knock, different heat dissipation characteristics. For what its worth i would stick with what the book says. Aw, iso or hv vg 32 is pretty easy to come by and fairly cheap, but just beware, as with all oils, you get what you pay for.
  11. Our works anorak gets covered in mud. When its being pulled out by an L200, usually because its broke down or ran out of oil again.
  12. Really? You must have got the good one? Sips fuel but guzzles oil.
  13. Start with basics, is there any fuel it? Is fuel pipe in good condition? Are fuel filters clean? Sounds simple but you would be amazed how many breakdowns i go to and just replace fuel filters. Is lift pump working? If its a cav rotary pump check inlet strainer. Check stop solenoid comtinuity. There is another way to check pump but unless you are totally competant with the machine i wouldnt advise it
  14. I nearlly always throw the dmf away. Single piece all the way. I know a man who put a new dmf in his mondeo and it snapped number 4 rod clean off the strap.
  15. Sorry to hi jack, but anyone got a perkins a3.144 around?
  16. Wow, ive been called many things in my life. Not sure if thats a compliment, but it sounds good.
  17. I agree, mapp gas. One click, whoosh, done. Clean quick effective. Or having traction engines in the family, a lump of oily greasy rag with a splash of diesel, on the end of the shovel, flick a match, turn shovel to drop the fireball, stoke away.
