  1. Well i have been looking forward to this job for months has a challenge and a first for me . A tatty old willow with a bad lean over a private customers canal boat mooring ,not his tree but next door gave him permission to cut the offending limb back . Over the years many branches and limbs have hit his boat so he has had enough, off i went and choose my anchor point and again a first hit with my throw bag with baler twine too. Took the slack up and off i went off the mooring deck swinging into middle of canal laughing . Cut the story short all was going well and settled in a good working position and first cut i made with my new SILKY SAW i forgot to clip the strap to my harness ..........................SPLASH!!!! Had to finish job with my old Stihl handsaw . Going back at weekend with my KAYAK and do some Fishing !!!!!. Anyone else done the same ??? Ste

  8. Just be careful you don't get sucked in with dreams of bigger and fancier toys , I am the world worst for it looking through EBAY , farmers trader etc , like previously said they don't come with work ! In 9 years I have had 4 different work horses, best buy was my IVECO daily 3 years ago in highway yellow , that alone did bring in work by the colour and will be a long time before I part with her. Choose wisely that will cope with a drop in work . Ste

  20. There is a great deal of confusion in the UK regarding the best wood to burn as well as woods to avoid. All wood is good to burn in a stove as long as it is dry. Even seemingly reliable sources of information sometimes get this completely wrong. You may read or be told that only hardwood logs are suitable and that you should not burn pine or conifer as these contain sap? or resins which tar up the chimney. This is rubbish. You may be told that there is more heat in hardwood than softwood. Again, not true. The calorific (heat) value of a kilo of softwood is almost identical to that of a kilo of hardwood, the softwood is just less dense so it takes up more space. You will have to put more pieces of a given softwood into your stove than you will hardwood, but weight for weight, the heat output will be about the same. With this in mind you should pay at least a third less for a given volume of softwood over hardwood. Ste
  21. Has 90% Of my tree work is Coni bashing i LOVE BURNING IT , just keep the chimney well swept though and no leaks in chimney has this can have a dire effect in the loft space with the sparks off it . Instant heat from it too. Ste
  22. I totally agree with what you are saying ,for me climbing is not my main income has the Garden and mini digger is were my main income comes from so the expense i cant justify for maybe 4 trees a month i take down via climbing . . Ste.
