  1. Thanks, I have learnt the hard way. Hodge
  2. That's way to cheap IMO, price of grinder, fuel, transport, teeth, insurance and profit. From £30 not worth bothering. I used to chage low prices like that until I hit an iron bar in the middle of a 10" stump! Cost £60 for new teeth, job was only £40. Now I charge a minimum of £100. They can take it or leave it. 3. And that's just the boss. Hodge
  4. That's life though mate:) Hodge
  5. That's what my AG mechanic said, well he wasn't so polite! Lol. Every time I call him the first words are what's up with that piece of junk now! LOL:) Hodge
  6. A lot of stumps I do and where possible I grind out as far down as I can get with my HB20 which can be as deep as 22" according to the manufacture but I don't often have to go that deep. In most cases if its just having grass over then get it a few inches below ground level to allow for plenty of new soil and turf. If they have left some then he should ask them to come back and get it how he wants it. I always tell my grinds that if I've missed a bit to get me back. No probs. as for the price for the work, as we have not seen the tree and other stuff it's hard to comment but in future get 3 like for like quotes and choose the company you feel will do the best job. 11. Yes I have a 995 Jon, its a bit rough but mechanically sound, I have a splitter on the back and a loader in the front. She starts fine when using the excess fuel tap on the pump and I have had a heater plug fitted, new alternator, new brake seals and shoes and the hydraulics sorted out. Hodge
  12. Its so you can flush the sludge out of the block. Hodge
  13. Draining the water out Hodge
  14. How is he doing now? Sorry to hi jack the thread. We lost my wife's cousin 2 years ago to depression, he was a cheerful, happy go lucky guy, or so we thought. Out of nowhere he went and hung himself. He called his best mate just before it and he went and found him but it was too late. Now the family and his friends are left to pick up the pieces. Hodge
  15. A simpler business model is to answer the phone, take the order and deliver it, rather than try to find a unused garage forecourt, take all stock there and sit and wait for someone to drive past with a big enough vehicle to carry enough logs home for the season. Really?? Hodge
  16. I can't recall any closed petrol stations around my way so that's a non starter and I doubt they can get a dumpy bag in a Yaris. Hodge
  17. Very valid point! Hodge
  18. I had one, used it a few times but found the ear defenders were poor at protecting ears from chipper or saws, but the main thing was that it just didn't fit my head in a comfy way. Hodge
  19. I had one and I never had an issue with the build quality which I found spot on. My problem was that I never used it. I can recall it being used on 2 or jobs and that's it. The groundy that works for me preferred to drag the brash and put straight int chipper rather than load trolly, move trolly and them unload trolly. Each to their own though. Hodge
  20. And what if you can't find clients like that? People don't necessarily want a cheap job they just want a fair price and if as in my case only 2 out of 6 or 7 competitors are vat reg it makes things hard. I looked into as I kept hitting the limit and when I worked out what I could claim back each month it was in reality very little, unless your hired in labour is vat reg. Monthly fuel bill didn't generate much and unless you but new machines then you don't get much back. Hodge
  21. I have a 17 year old who is doing a Forrest and Arb course at Newton Rigg, he tells me one of the tutors doesn't even know the correct names of cuts etc. it took the 7 months to do 2 weeks felling and they won't give them assessment until they all have more experience but they won't get experience as only 2 out of 15 students have a placement. From what I have heard from various sources Newton Rigg is not what it once was. Hodge
  22. just seen this in the new addition of essential Arb. Hodge
  23. You should have found out the answers to your questions before you bought the machine mate. Hodge
  24. I've just spat ma curry all over my Mrs, that's well funny! Hodge
  25. Speak to Andy Collins on here as he had colitis I think and seems to have come through the other side. Also a close mate has had the same for the last 24 years. The Camera is unpleasant but no big deal mate. Good luck Hodge
