  4. I pay my accountant by standing order each month, he does my tax return and submits my accounts. He has saved me loads since I started using him and is worth every penny. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  5. Depends what it is, my local husky dealer is good to me and gives me a discount, but they don't sell climbing kit or clothing like stretch air or meindl boots so I get that mail order from jonsie or clarks. If its tools though I like to get them local them if there is a problem I can just pop in. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)

  10. I agree, that's why I said wages. Day rate minus costs, wages and anything left is a bit extra get a good accountant and they are worth their weight in gold. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  11. Even though there is a recession and money is tight it doesn't mean your costs alter. Insurance doesn't go down because moneys tight. When you know the tree game then you will know how to price, trying to explain it to people who are starting out is hard, sometimes you just gotta let them find out the hardway like a lot of us have. I have nothing on finance anymore thank god but I found that was the hardest thing, if you have a quite week you still have that money to find. Now if I have a quite week it's not as bad because I know that I can make up the money in a busy time. Owning all my own gear and keeping outgoings to a minimum is the best thing IMO. 12. You can't live on £600 a week? Wow. I was suggesting £120 as an idea for the fella. I think a lot of people would be happy on £120. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  13. Explain? Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  14. I bought one last year and I've only used it twice, but it was a big help and is there when I need it. Buy one. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  15. Everyone is different, £120 a day wages ain't to bad:) Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  16. Again, well said. We all are thinking it. It's the uniform I like:) braces, boots and helmet;) Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  17. It doesn't matter what we suggest mate, it should be based on your circumstances. What are your running costs? Then add on your wages and profit and hey presto there is your day rate. it's not rocket science just don't put your head in the sand when it comes to money. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  18. I recon you hit the mail on the head bud. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  19. That's why I said it should be no less:) Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  20. It's the same everywhere, I price work at what I want for doing the job, If some one wants to work for that then let them. A 3 man crew, van and chipper should be no less than £500 per day. I really think a lot of people doing tree work have no idea on their running costs. I heard how much a guy round our way was charging and he must not be making much. Remember, turnover is vanity and profit is sanity. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  21. I love it, " tied into a thin conifer" I think that says it all:) Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  22. If people can't follow a request then how Will they be in a working situation?? It's just common sense really. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  23. Deffo give Mozza a try mate. He doesn't come on here much now but I will txt him and tell him about the thread. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  24. Hi mate, you really should have a contract of employment, I think by law you should have one but I'm not sure. It protects you and your employer. If you have it in your contract that you work 40 hrs per week at £10 per hour and then and hours over that will be paid at £15 then you know where you are. When I had an employee I had a contract with him, if he did overtime I gave him time off in return. To be fair we never really did much. Now I just use self employed lads, we do job and knock, most days done by by 3pm, some days like today done by 12, then if we do a late one they are cool about it. I don't work them to the bone as I don't think you should exploit them as I didn't like being exploited. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
  25. My ms200t runs fine on Aspen. I must be the lucky one. I like as aspen coz it does not stink, working with a guy using normal fuel really makes you notice how horrible 2 stroke is. Sent from Hodge's eye phone using the new fancy Arbtalk Mobile App:)
