  1. Most of the general public & many conservation orgs seem to have a rabid irrational hate of sycamores yet theres mass hysteria over sycamore gap. So yeah wonder if it will change attitudes to probably the most maligned of tree species? Iv'e always liked them as I dislike the people they piss off.
  2. Any pollards underneath oaks though i thought they were more spaced out and not overshaded? Also how old was the tree normally when cut to make a pollard?
  3. Canada has the possibly the highest house prices in the world i think so accomadation might be expensive
  4. I did that to one a few yrs ago when the top that was 100% dead looking., its 30ft high now with multiple stems Grown over 6ft a yr
  5. Use a depth gauge plate instead & ditch the 2 in 1 as that sounds like the issue not the chain brand... I think with the 2 in 1 others have had same issue
  6. Pollards under canopy Im not sure that will work due the light lvls? Iv'e read that a hornebeam understory is handy though to stop epicormic growth on the oak stems as they are thinned Silviculture of oak for high-quality wood production - CORE Reader CORE.AC.UK
  7. Whats with the the earthworks native indian site?
  8. How bout the huge lecky usage bigger than a country etc for the block chain? Environmental effects of bitcoin - Wikipedia EN.WIKIPEDIA.ORG
  9. Blanch then freeze, but no they arent as nice as fresh but then its abit like spuds that are not the same as new potatoes freshly dug up...
  10. I don't see why you need to bother with briquettes when you can get all the quality oak firwood? 🙂 I'd just stick with rhe oak and maybe get some softwood also for kindling or to mix in for rapid heat etc.
  11. Some people who eat meat every day often seem to be fussy eaters who only like plain food. Meat & 2 boiled vegs etc is ok but gets old every day. But on the other hand you get vegans who seem to mostly eat a load fake meat rubbish & quorn & don't cook much veg recipes. I have l veg plot so a chest freezer full of runner beans french beans broad beans & tomatoes& other vegs. Bit sick of the beans but beans always are so productive and the crop never fails. Im sure alot of tradition diets worldwide were heavy on the beans. Broad beans grown in UK in since iron age yet Lidl don't sell them theyprobaby do in Waitrose?. Runner bean has to be possibly the most productive crop that exists per land area? Grew a shit load of butternut sqaush also so being having squash soup all the time this winter. Bags of spuds to use up before they sprout & shed full of stored apples. Use to have the freezer full of lamb as well before the local home kill butcher got run over now don't keep sheep anymore.
  12. The local ramblers are putting sections of wooden boardwalks everywhere, must be may miles of it all added up I think its foolish as it don't last more than 5yrs & needs alot of ongoing maintenance. I reckon mini raised embankments plus some drainage could work better in most places.
  13. So all the stuff about the rustic tradtional Mediterranean diet being heathly is wrong? Was a low meat diet as meat all the time would of being only affordable to the more wealthy i thought?
  14. Related to rowans Wild service tree or a Sorb tree. Exotic & a natives. No one else will have one in there front garden. Maybe a group of 3
  15. Hazel needs some light to regen as it isn't a very shade tolerant species so cutting them but not the overhead canopy won't do them much good. For decent healthy hazel growth & coppice poles material zero to a max 20% canopy cover is best. Posting some pictures up may be helpful. Is it hazel with standards or two distinct species blocks?
  16. The track chisel has th edge the other way like an axe? Looks abit like this sledge hammer Products | Picard Hammer WWW.PICARD-HAMMER.DE
  17. ‘Britain’s tallest magnolia tree’ cut down because of fears it would fall | Dorset | The Guardian WWW.THEGUARDIAN.COM ‘Magnificent’ tree in Lilliput, Poole, planted more than 50 years ago, became an attraction due to its pink flowers Had a TPO
  18. I prefer 15" more handy esp if siding up hedges / reaching into blackthorn scrub to cut it at base or cutting across larger diameter hazel coppice stools. OP probably will want a decent brushcutter also.
  19. ms261 or 550xp Then maybe also the new small husky for doing the hazel sticks would be my ideal. Husqvarna 540XP Mark III but its very expensive for a small saw. Echo don't yet have a 50cc or 60cc with modern AV? But there 40cc are 70cc models are new. The makita EA4300 is good but no longer available.
  20. That was my first thought also 😊
  21. Very hard to say from only the picture but that particular tree doesn't look too affected or unsafe atm with regards to adb.
  22. I was under the impression alot of it was overstood and derelict & not heard of any new land planted so not sure if it is thriving or in decline as a industry?
