  1. Work got a speeding ticket for one of our vw vans near to the Dartford crossing despite our vans never leaving the north east our boss asked for a photo,it turned out to be a camper van pulling a trailer the reg number was similar but obviously different they can't have looked that closely we never heard anything back
  2. The only thing I don't like about those rails is why don't they do one that goes up to 32mm the same as most socket sets, great idea apart from that
  3. It's alright buying cheap steel/coal etc from every other country but wait till they've closed every British industry down and the prices shoot right up then we'll be screwed
  4. They were talking about this on radio 2 a couple of weeks ago so it's got all trendy and put the price up. Cheapest I've seen them is about 15 quid on AbeBooks - Used Books, Rare Books, New Books & Textbooks
  5. If you think you've got too many tools try having a look at The Garage Journal and have a look at some of our American friends garages and tool collections

  10. You'll need to take a test if you passed after 1997,if you're paying for a C1 test I'd go for class C (old HGV 2) it'll cost about the same and give's you more options.Check with the DVLA about your Diabetes the rules were changed a while back I know a bloke on Insulin who's got his Class 1 Licence last year but I think it depends on your personal history

I've got a mix of stuff Snap on spanner set some Sealey stuff, old Britool,Gedore but for cheaper everyday use I like the Draper Expert (6 point) sockets. I've given them a fair bit of stick and only had to replace one so far, that's cos my brother lost his locking wheel nut key and I hammered the socket on so hard I couldn't get it back off, they're not that pricey to replace if you do lose lose/break one
  12. I had my Escort van insured with Autonet I found them to be spot on to deal with and they were cheap enough
  13. I worked in the construction industry years ago and the last year or so all the safety meetings would consist of the usual wear your p.p.e talks and then Sun damage to your skin lectures. If we get a sunny spell now our boss gives a bottle of sun tan lotion no one wears it but it covers his behind if anything goes wrong
  14. Yeah go straight to class C then you're good for everything up to 8 wheelers. If you do don't worry about missing gears on the first day you'll be used to by the end of the second day
  15. The other way round I think Crafters are Sprinters with a VW engine
  16. I did a level 1 welding course at Gateshead college about 18 months ago,it was £220 for the course but cos I didn't bother at school and didn't have a level 1 education I got it and level 1 TIG for nothing. They stopped the funding just after I finished but tbh I would of been happy to pay for it.For gas I get my pub bottle filled at the local fire extinguisher place for a Tenner it's not used that much so a bottle can last over a year

  19. My boss stopped us using one of our fuel cards because they were costing us more on the card than the pump price. When he phoned them up they said the price we were paying was the national average, the higher pump price down south meant it worked out cheaper not to use the card and just pay cash. I would read the small print carefully if you get one.
  20. I always thought Merc model numbers stood for weight/engine size so an 811 would be 8 ton (design weight so 7.5 tonner) 110 hp,they were mainly 814's so 140 bhp and later one's were 817's so 170 bhp,1317's 13 ton 170 bhp and so on.I'm sure an 811 would be a tilt cab and 811d the version with a bonnet
  21. If it's this type http://img.machinio.com/ma/1740510444.jpg they were a good truck in their day about half a tonne heavier than the equivalent DAF.The first thing I'd change would be the auto box 7.5 ton auto's are pretty dreadful I certainly wouldn't want to take one offroad.I did some agency work last year on 7.5 ton auto's they were all replaced by manual DAF's after the drivers complained about them.
  22. is it this type http://img.machinio.com/ma/1740510444.jpg if it is they were a good truck in their day about half a ton heavier than the equivalent Daf
