Yeah sure its possible but much prefer the idea of flames and bangs. Far more fun than sneaky silent stuff. Seriously though had a lot of success with the 2 wire tunnel traps, the curved metal types. Let them weather buried in ground for a couple of weeks then observe carefully which runs are new and V. Carefully place them in a working tunnel. Use a thin rod to find the tunnel to avoid too much disturbance . Then neatly open up tunnel with a small spade, clear out all fallen soil,set and place your trap and cover with sod of turf lightly so as not to stop trap tripping. Stick the rod back in ground next to trap so ya can find it again !!

Hi Peat. I've been looking at units like this for a while now, for my Ifor Wms trailer. Seen various types some short kingpost models, many hydraulic lift only with an extra strengthening brace on top ,but never seen one with winch and hydraulics. Do you have a link for this one or maybe I'll just put my own winch on a strengthened simple hydraulic one. I'm thinking of putting 2 post mounting sockets in/under the floor to load from front or middle without a fitting obstructing the bed. Looks like a good simple solution to me for low weight but awkward shapes.

Aren't the old ones just the prettiest looking mogs around. Great to see it still able to do a days work and still be looked after.

If ya've got up there only cut off backward limbs leave all the others for forward mass (aiding gravity again). Then as ypur in the tree already keep going up to set the winch line. Every foot of leverage up there preserves the hinge timber more. Just looks like youve got the most miserable climb of your life. Perhaps you could send some other poor muppet up there. As you may be able to tell I don't climb willingly.

If you can get rope high the amount of pull required is reduced but digger still in zone of flying debris snapped branches etc. If you can get rope high enough for the digger to pull use a winch and get digger out of fell zone!

Dont have digger trying to reach high up tree ,it will be unbalanced and trying to track underneath itself. Its acting as an aid to gravity a bit like the wedges restoring the tree to a more upright position. Accurate cutting is the key. And once you've got movement keep it going. Dont stop or reposition keep pressure on till she's freefalling or hinge will snap

Sorry couldn't see lean in photo. But with well placed wedges, very accurate gob and backcut plus digger to aid and influence movement in the right direction as long as not severely unbalanced in wrong direction should go. Never been a fan of connecting anything other than a winch to pull. Predicting a fell is relatively straightforward. Predicting a bounce or roll less so. A good healthy blow of wind behind the tree with that much ivy would be a benefit. Failing that looks like a job for the line launcher

If its a clear fell area why not use digger to tear off ivy at felling gob area ? Do your cuts then push/slew with digger at its mid height to avoid off balancing digger, or am I missing something?

Too right about it being sensative. Often seems like complete denial while everyone around can see the symptoms. The elephant in the room just keeps getting bigger. Pushing just gets the heels dug in deeper!

Turtlewoods. No problem. No the subject isn't me a girlfriend or family member. Shes simply a near neighbour who's family have been put through hell with this. Dont want to see a 45 yr old die through something that could be turned round.

Thanks for the help so far. She's done juicing and home prepped prebiotic/yogurts each one seems to take her a stage lower. She does my head in. The steroid management course actually seemed to work physically but she reckoned it made her paranoid and took herself back off it. As I say this has gone beyond her body now in her mind and cant communicate sensibly anymore.

Talking bout the issue seems to be a no- no now, she gets angry and defensive I get angry. Just want her to get a walloping great kick up the arse as it were, to try to restore a positive mental state. She's tried every sort of diet- dairy free, carb. free, fibre free. - her body has nothing left to give. Weighs 6st, looks like death and won't leave the house anymore. Has been advised in past by all manner of dieticians of all denomination and abilities and is now terrified of her own dinnerplate! If there was a diet cure for this I'm sure the WWW. would be alive with the news. As an outsider to her family she don't take advice gratefully but her family can't speak without it blowing up. They're all suffering.

Hi All. Got this really difficult situation going on where a close friend has been suffering for 4yrs+ with the latter of these, ulcerative colitis, but its taken over her life in an overpowering way. She's spent the entire time period desperately searching for the magic cure diet to relieve the symptoms whilst progressively getting weaker and weaker. She fights against the normal steroid management and avoids any medical intervention. The whole thing is destroying all her family life and has taken over everything. I firmly believe it's as much a mental state as physical but can no longer talk to her without it being a major issue. Her life is collapsing around her and I'm unable anymore to talk without being angry and negative. Any suggestions? Shaun

Don't do nothing with it, it needs to be kept moving just dont load it, and keep pushing the limits of movement - to the point of stretching not pain. What you do now influences your range of movements later. I had a great consultant who believed the physios were too cautious, protecting themselves from litigation rather than advancing healing. Try to avoid hiding overuse with painkiller/anti inflammatory but use them wisely. Best wishes Shaun

Hi geoff. Had this op done followed by complete rotator cuff repair on both shoulders. Fantastic success. Anyway after first op to shave bones went out working with brushcutter a week later. Then out of curiosity u tubed the op and found out just how serious it actually is. Lots of internal raw surfaces so dont be fooled by the tiny incision scars. Two months of physio seemed excessive at time but probably worth it. Consultant wanted me to use the joint lightly DEFINITELY not climbing. Look at three months before climbing 6 weeks for heavy chainsawing. If you need the rotator cuffs repairing expect to be not climbing for 10 months 8months before you use a saw! Results are definitely worth the wait. - then look after them. I don't do hedges anymore, only do light climbs and have bought a sawmill to ease the load on the shoulders. Shaun

Dear god there must be three quarters of a ton weight just in hydraulic hose and fittings. Wouldn't want to be fault finding on that one
