  1. Talking bout the issue seems to be a no- no now, she gets angry and defensive I get angry. Just want her to get a walloping great kick up the arse as it were, to try to restore a positive mental state. She's tried every sort of diet- dairy free, carb. free, fibre free. - her body has nothing left to give. Weighs 6st, looks like death and won't leave the house anymore. Has been advised in past by all manner of dieticians of all denomination and abilities and is now terrified of her own dinnerplate! If there was a diet cure for this I'm sure the WWW. would be alive with the news. As an outsider to her family she don't take advice gratefully but her family can't speak without it blowing up. They're all suffering.
  2. Hi All. Got this really difficult situation going on where a close friend has been suffering for 4yrs+ with the latter of these, ulcerative colitis, but its taken over her life in an overpowering way. She's spent the entire time period desperately searching for the magic cure diet to relieve the symptoms whilst progressively getting weaker and weaker. She fights against the normal steroid management and avoids any medical intervention. The whole thing is destroying all her family life and has taken over everything. I firmly believe it's as much a mental state as physical but can no longer talk to her without it being a major issue. Her life is collapsing around her and I'm unable anymore to talk without being angry and negative. Any suggestions? Shaun
  3. Nice site now Greg. Much better than the original to use with smartphone. Best wishes for 2015, from a mountain in west cork. shaun @scmilling.ie
  4. Don't do nothing with it, it needs to be kept moving just dont load it, and keep pushing the limits of movement - to the point of stretching not pain. What you do now influences your range of movements later. I had a great consultant who believed the physios were too cautious, protecting themselves from litigation rather than advancing healing. Try to avoid hiding overuse with painkiller/anti inflammatory but use them wisely. Best wishes Shaun
  5. Hi geoff. Had this op done followed by complete rotator cuff repair on both shoulders. Fantastic success. Anyway after first op to shave bones went out working with brushcutter a week later. Then out of curiosity u tubed the op and found out just how serious it actually is. Lots of internal raw surfaces so dont be fooled by the tiny incision scars. Two months of physio seemed excessive at time but probably worth it. Consultant wanted me to use the joint lightly DEFINITELY not climbing. Look at three months before climbing 6 weeks for heavy chainsawing. If you need the rotator cuffs repairing expect to be not climbing for 10 months 8months before you use a saw! Results are definitely worth the wait. - then look after them. I don't do hedges anymore, only do light climbs and have bought a sawmill to ease the load on the shoulders. Shaun
  6. Looks like a big twist between the headboard and your truck cab William. Presuming its a tipper, should you have a stabiliser leg under the crane?
  7. Dear god there must be three quarters of a ton weight just in hydraulic hose and fittings. Wouldn't want to be fault finding on that one
  8. Do you guys get the odd feeling at the base of your spine and cant breathe properly watchin this? Makes me feel ill just reviewing it in my head. But yeah too right was just crying out for him to jump an pop the chute.
  9. Was with a slightly off the wall client today and got round to talking about Whitefinger/ reynauds/hand arm vibe syndrome. Anyway he asked if leeches on the fingertips would counteract the problem. At first thought he'd lost the plot but the more I think the more feasible it becomes. -perhaps I should just stop thinkin ?
  10. I semi retired from this industry more than 15yrs ago but it still fills me with pride to remain involved and to read and feel the camaraderie and support to any new member or anybody prepared to work hard. I love this work and couldn't do any other even as I approach 50. To you superfurryanimal well done and enjoy even the bad days. To all others waiting to follow, we'll always give what help we can. Stay safe. Shaun
  11. Believe me if and when it does fail the rat scratch with the saw working out in front is a really cack position to be in . Pendulum swing into trunk, disorientated and unable to fend off with the legs leads to big impact. I've kept reviewing what I did and could I have done different, but still haven't found an alternative. Tieing in to the limb I was on was the only other possible and thankfully I didn't. Smashed ribs and knackered thigh ligament was bad enough without being garrotted in half by the falling limb.
  12. Is that still there? But no not that site.
  13. Went with climber to job in the rear garden of a street terrace in Oxford. We were earlier than expected. Knocked at door, client comes out looking surprised them announces we'll have to wait whilst he clears out his back passage . Priceless !!. Had to quickly run back to the truck " to get something" but just to get out of earshot before the sides split. Rest of day was just out of control!! This was 20 years ago. Still brings tears thinkin about it now. Met up with John the climber recently , the first memory shared was this one. Shaun
  14. Yes I know tw125 aint that heavy. Got muddled with a pm iwas talking with earlier. But still need no weight
  15. Thanks guys. Live and work out in west cork Ireland. Working several small woodlands ranging from hilly slopes to true mountainside. What d'ya think?

Logwood left in ecopiles. Needs to be hauled with my kodiak450 so not too heavy or unstable. Gravity fed is just pants dont want to go there at all so dont be tellin me ow great ya lego garden machine is !! Shaun
  18. Hiya. I work with a couple of wildflower meadow projects out here in Ireland. As has been said rightly earlier its imperative to remove all cuttings from the field Leave any and your only promoting grass growth that the flower cannot compete against. If the field hasn't been cut regularly before then get farmer giles in with a good sharp disc mower to get underneath the thatch layer. Even if he only cuts a block out of the centre its saved you a huge ballache. Then for the rest around trees or odd shaped corners use a brush cutter with a heavy sharp blade to cut just above the dirt. Let it all dry for three days to reduce weight and effort, but more importantly to dry out and release seed then rake it all into centre and make hay in the usual fashion. Subsequent years now that root zone is clear of trash, use a pedestrian fingerbar mower like an allen scythe- really sharp and well set up from a vintage sale or find local vintage enthusiast with one. It'll tickle his tits pink to do something usefull with it!! Rotary garden type mowers are not the answer unless you're going to rake meticulously. Take a hay crop at least once a year then graze once or twice only later. Dont forget to dry and shake out the seed. You really have got to be lowering the nutrient status for the flower to survive. Cut wandering paths through the growing crop to enjoy seeing it change. This stuff will take several years to develop but what a picture in the end.
  19. So is no one's mill insured? Not necessarily looking for irish insurers, just contacts to call to see if they'll cover me

  25. 49 pushing 50. Served my time in the glory days with steve burkitt. When tree boys were born with beards. Now finding out why their bodies were such strange shapes. 4 years of shoulder ops pinning and stitching back together can climb cut split and do hedges again.
