  2. I see Dave has put his axe to rest  Breaking News : David Gilmour to announce retirement from music - Mediamass I worked in his garden taking out a dead apple tree, if I remember right, then grinding out the stump. One of those grand houses on Maida Vale, where the back garden is down a steep long flight of stairs at the side of the property. Got stumpy in, did the job with himself glaring out of the window all the time. Sweated me tits off getting all the scriff back up them bloody steps. Did I get a cup of tea or even a hello? Did I buggery!! Couldn't get Stumpy back up the steps , roasted the hydrostat drive - too steep and too long, but knew they ( the London garden company I was contracted to) were going to crane in a new tree , so left Stumpy there for several days and came back on Sunday to a complete road closure, a 120 tonne crane (simply to achieve the reach required) and the tiniest willow tree in a 40 litre pot. Christ it looked stupidly small swinging over the rooftops from the street outside. Craned Stumpy back out and away. Still no bloody greeting or cuppa or anything. It still stings now 20 years later. Knob was the word then, don't think I'm gonna change it even now. Funny how some things stay with you. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  3. There's a Layby close to my brothers place in leek on the Ashbourne road- everyone else seems to just drop it there !!! Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  4. Got the engine running sweetly now. Yes the idle jet was blocked solid, I still didn't spot it first time round. Couldn't blow it out with the airline, so had to force it through with a strand from the wire brush. Gave the rest of the carb another blow through whilst it was on the bench, and got a lovely jet of petrol straight in the eye from one of the fuel passages! Don't that sting and burn like f@@k !!!! Anyway a nice sweet tickover now. That's the first time I've heard that since I bought the mill back to my yard. This is the one that was for sale here on Arbtalk a little while back. When I arrived to collect it the guy had the carb in bits then ,saying that suddenly it wouldn't idle. It really is as clean and fresh as he described it. All I need to do now is to construct a frame to stiffen it and raise it off the deck of my ifor williams, then it will be a great complement to my lucas mill for the smaller logs. Once again, Thanks Bob. Shaun Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  5. Doh. Sorry pressed wrong button and not for the first time. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app

  7. Nice one Bob. I'll give it another strip down tomorrow, I don't recall seeing that item but now I know what I'm looking for I'll keep at it. It definitely behaves like a blockage here. A handy document to have anyway Thanks Shaun Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app

  9. One loop please. Pm me when required. Thanks Shaun Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  10. I've searched but not found any other threads of this problem. The issue is on a woodlands mill hm126, fitted with a kohler 9.5hp CH395 command pro. I can't get it to run an idle speed without feathering the choke. Open the choke and it dies after a few seconds. If I open the throttle whilst its still running it runs up to maximum speed with no problem, but the high speed without load sounds weak and fluffy. There are no mixture adjustments either for idle or high speed. I've taken the carb off twice, removed main jet and blown through every orifice possible but found nothing. Drained the tank and dismantled the fuel tap assembly. It's a real pain having to restart after every single cut. Does anyone have a pearls of wisdom for me to try tomorrow There doesn't seem to be any mixture adjustment screws on this carb only an idle speed adjuster. If I use this to get a ( rough ) idle of sorts then it has to be quite fast to keep running, in which case the clutch starts to engage which ain't good or safe. Anyone? 11. Matadors - nothing else on earth like em. If you got all wheels on the ground you ain't working. Used to drive Steve Birkett's matty at Complete Tree Services back in the early 90s, unfortunately don't have any pics to hand- they're all in the loft in their pre digital folders. May have to see if they've survived mice and damp and scan them in. Shaun Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  12. Hi Steve, Just to say thanks again for getting the links issue sorted. Everything seems to be running fine now, in fact even better ,as I was previously using an old version of Arbtalk. All looks well swanky now and fast. Cheers Shaun Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  13. Steve, Thank you for all your labour so far. Nothing wrong with asking a higher level. Wish I did this myself more frequently, it would save me fishing around in the dark and generally being left floundering. I'm just too bloody stubborn and hate saying help. 14. Just gave the uninstall - install method a go and still nothing opening for me. That could be down to me buggering about with my phone , others need to try ,to see if its just me or the system. Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  15. Just tried it out and seems to be no change for me. Do I have to shut arbtalk down and reinstall? Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  16. So sorry to hear of yet another working man's kit being snatched , and the police seemingly unwilling to follow up. A slightly more cheering event happened this week as I bought my new secondhand sawmill from Pembroke to Ireland. For the first time in 16 years I was stopped at the port and asked to show evidence of purchase. I was expecting it to be for customs so they could try to rip some tax or vat off me, but no it was to check on stolen equipment coming into ireland. The only proof I had was a chain of emails, but that was enough. Perhaps with other more frequently stolen large equipment I guess they'd take a look at serial numbers - one can only hope. 17. Thanks for the reply Steve, I've been clearing old and unused stuff off my phone without knowing what they really do, in an attempt to get rid of the messages saying running out of storage space, so presumed it was something I'd binned without realising the consequences. That could be my issue, but I still wouldn't know what to do about it !!! Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  18. Hi all, hopefully someone can help me out with a simple explanation or solution. Whenever I click on a link within a thread it fails to oblige, coming up only with a http address in tiny script that doesn't open up into any more detail. It's only recently in the last couple of weeks started doing this. I've done anti virus and also deleted and reloaded Arbtalk to see if it would come back to normal again but no joy. Everything else works fine ie loading pictures viewing pics and all logins etc. I am most definitely not a techy so please try not to ask difficult questions or give answers only understandable to someone less than 20 years old. I haven't noticed any issues anywhere else in the phone, just here. Shaun Sent from my GT-I9195 using Arbtalk mobile app
  19. Wow ain't that cool - you load them into your reply , they show as being on their side, and the magic of Arbtalk puts em the right way round. !!
  20. Found these in the new forest this week whilst on holiday. Such a glorious colour and texture. Cortinaria violaceous Sorry they're on their side can't rotate them. Third picture was a real stunner in the same spot last year. I actually feel honoured to have been able to find them. I always enjoy finding new fungi but these really were the dogs danglers for me. Shaun
  21. I'm beginning to get a serious distrust of small white vans now - they sound like real trouble. I thought my landy was bad enough constantly snapping at my fingers in the back door.
  22. Yep nothing essentially wrong with using those gears manually. Intended more to control engine braking on hill descents and to stop it trying to change up on ascents, realising it got it wrong changing back down and losing torque and speed in the process. A BIG help is to tuck your clutch foot under the seat or sit on it to stop you jabbing at the brake thinking it's the clutch. Auto's are spectacular for suppressing wheelspin off road. Shaun
  23. I operate a contract mobile milling service out here in SW Ireland. Have been for two and a half years. It makes a reasonable income for 1-2 days a week. Poor site conditions and dirty sawlogs are the main headaches plus over helpful clients. Long travels pursuing work and weather are also downsides. Being mobile there's no roof over the working area - it's a miserable job in the rain everything slipping and yourself covered in fine wet dust. Repeat customers are few and far between. Once you've processed the wood on a job that's it move on to the next. On the upside if you look after your equipment and keep it sharp it's relatively easy going, and you'll always meet some great positive thinking people. I don't buy, sell or store timber . There are others far better suited and experienced in this. You can be a long time trying to find buyers who will always want a different size to what you have, and the stack is worth nothing til it leaves your yard. 95%of my work is softwood construction timber for farm buildings etc but I'll cut whatever the client wants, but will advise if it seems like the wrong choice. I want to be known for good service which includes making sure the product is fit for purpose. I'm lucky, having no mortgage or overheads to cover and no children to be feeding, so can survive on 8 days a month. It suits me fine. If I needed a consistent income this probably wouldn't be it. Shaun
  24. Slightly more than the best offer you get?
  25. Try shovellin the chip out of one of them, and hang a winch off it an all the body will be on the ground. Ha ha
