  1. If you work in this game long enough that will happen to you at some point. Ah well, that's okay then. We'll keep on going til it happens. No it should never happen in an open public area. We all need to look at things like this, understand what could have occurred, (with trees there's never a one solution fits all circumstances) and do our damnedest to make sure it don't happen again. Education and experience go hand in hand. If it can't be done with safety as paramount then do it another way. - section fell for instance. It always seems great and productive to whop it down in one, but sure takes a lot of cleaning up afterwards.
  2. Cast an eye over mine if you wish. It's been running for almost two years now and probably needs updating. I'm no techy so anything that requires attention goes to my IT guy, but all wording is my own. http://www.sawmilling.ie
  3. Guy goes to bed after a few pints. Wakes a few hours later , really fancies a good time with missus, but mr alcohol has got in the way. He reaches into the bedside drawer for the liquid viagra but takes Tippex instead. He falls back asleep again for 15 minutes. .................and wakes with a massive. .........correction
  4. In this age of safety overload are scouts still allowed to burn anything? - fume hazards, dangerous sparks and a risk assessment of what was previously on the pallets !!
  5. That's without a doubt the most extreme I've ever seen a sprocket worn to.--- Its almost art !!!
  6. Here's some pics from my current holiday on paxos, near corfu. Some really tough rejuvenation works going on at the moment. Their olive groves have been out of production for maybe a generation but are now being looked at again as a cash crop. Most of these trees seem to be coping with this treatment .I was out here last year when the island wide works were just starting. Looks aggressively savage, especially considering this wasn't done in the cooler months. As long as one or two twigs were left the poor trees seem to have responded.
  7. I've bought a load of tips from TC Solutions, a helpful guy. I'm making a jig as the lucas genuine one is for 6.1mm teeth whereas the tcs ones are 7mm and won't fit. You said you are using oxy propane to braze. Does it heat enough for the tip size or would oxy propylene (acetylene alternative), be the best choice? There seems to be quite a debate regarding what gas to use for brazing. Looking forward to seeing your vid when its produced. Shaun
  8. Ooooohh that looks expensive. Wouldn't want to be the one telling the boss about that one.
  9. My mrs loves it- reckons it makes her think of me !!! Could also be the vapours rising up from the environmental disaster zone outside our door, where the land rover is parked.
  10. All of the above but prune all round to shorten branches . Aim to reduce the leaf area for this year until streched/broken/comprised fibrous root system has rejuvenated.
  11. Another one gone. Just heard news that Prince is dead. Never really liked him ,but it was an era in my life. Is everybody famous, worthy and memorable going to travel to the next world this year?
  12. Today's work 18' macrocarpa into 9x3's . Normally have another person handling the timber, but on my own today.-dear God , they were heavy.
  13. ? Isn't text great
  14. When you're over 50 the knees go bad and you really don't want to be attempting to bend and lift heavy loads with them ,- makes the back ache worse instead. Yeah aching calves goes with the lifestyle , catches us all in the end. Shaun
  15. One of life's buzzes is milling big stuff on the lucas. Everything seems to flow so well with minimal wastage. Nice job. Shaun
  16. I bet the porpoise-n is really pished of with us all by now. Had plenty of time to mullett over -(board !) Shaun
  17. Nice one , hahaha. Thats just put a great finish on an otherwise dull day. Shaun
  18. No surely not , your roads are paved with gold and the best politician's promises. They think West cork is a different superb of Europe. Third world standards apply down here apart from where d Healey -Raes live . Sorry uk guys you have be here for that to mean anything .
  19. Our roads down here in west cork are so badly rotten and holed that very few shocks last more than a year now especially on the defender with ifor williams trailer behind. They have to work damned hard. Britpart ones will only be about 8- 10 months. You never really notice they've failed til you put new ones on , but handling progressively becomes more erratic. Got terrafirma on at the moment , doing okay but rear springs are going now.
  20. Have spent 3 weeks and 2 week spells milling nothing but macrocarpa with no effects. Obviously the dust isn't as fine as you'd get carving and sanding. Never heard any warnings from Australia and New Zealand where it's one of the more common construction timbers. Could it be a fungus in the airshield itself. ? Shaun
  21. Corr, I bet that lot smells gorgeous on a summers day. Would love to see him step into his van ,crack open the skylight and breath in deeply with pride.- then turn purple an puke everywhere. ...
  22. I always get clients to use 20- 25mm sticks at a max of 18" spacing , reducing to 12" for thin boards. Shaun
  23. Hide the stepladder !!
  24. Looks purposeful and well built to me. I would have more support than the small webs on the upright carrying frame. Perhaps 2 lengths of box section from the top corners down to the hitch point. A large log snagged on a stump or bottomed out on the crest of a hill will exert a massive drag , tearing open welds. Good job , and for practically nothing.
  25. Some are naturally so. I had to practice practice practice til I got it right. But well worth it. Works best out in field when looking directly down over the chain. Less effective in the workshop when you are looking more from the side.
