  1. For a 201 you need to drill out the exhaust and drill out the resistor in H carb screw so you can turn it up a notch, fit a unguarded stihl chain it'll cut like gooden. All my top handles have been used heavily so this 540 will be put to the test I wanted a change probably for the same reason you bought 540 after coming from a 201. In 2 years time hopefully a better saw is produced or I find a cheap 200
  2. The 540 is a good saw from what I've seen of it, it feels a bit poorly built but time will tell. I think the main issue is these new saws aren't really a step up from the 200t more of a step sideways
  3. I've just bought a 540 because my 201 fell apart (after 2 years) the 540 doesn't excite me at all in an ideal world we should be able to buy 200t's brand new. I couldn't justify spending over £300 for a 2nd hand 200

    What harness?

In short it's personal preference really, I like the weaver I really do at the time I had to get a harness there and then they didn't have a weaver in so I got a skylotec I love it it's like a synthetic weaver I can't get on with any petzl harness maybe that's just me but I like the freedom of my man parts You need to test them out, people will tell you all sorts but it's your comfort at the end of the day and the weaver might still be the best for you
  5. It's 3.5 ton or under so it's a light goods vehicle/car and it'll be tested as a light good vehicle/car any thing over that weight will need an operators licence and a check every 10 weeks, no need for a tacho unless you operate over 100km of you're home base (as the bird flies) I attended a crappy vosa seminar a month or two back
  6. Haha a real tree surgeon !!!!
  7. It's called pole top rescue a practical way to rescue somèone in that situation
  8. It is quite handy for that it makes you think twice and twice again. I really think this guy in the video was cacking himself he couldn't even pick his saw up properly and his stance on his spikes was all wrong, I bet he thought twice about it then that overriding voice in his head said ' it'll be reet!' Which in arb terms means 50/50 and he went for it. At least he'll know for next time......... After he washes his hi flex and possibly his boots too haha
  9. The way I see it is if theirs lots of lads doing tree work the area must have a enough tree work to make it a viable business for them
  10. I think it comes down to common sence when lowering. Im never convinced when these publications they bring out, far to many and I really mean to many factors to consider. My top tip is specially with timber is if it's to big to push off the stem then it's to big to lower haha
  11. He did take it to big but the lowing kit is to blame it just wasn't up to the job. It looks like he was using some kind of 'eye' instead of a lowing block
  12. Yes it's really bad, it likes to chatter and bounce out of cuts you have to fight with the saw to keep it in big bits of timber. I threw the chain in the bin I felt it was verging on dangerous so i got a stihl chain made up No anti vibe cack on it old school depth gauges and full chisel cutter. Perfect
  13. Those serve yourself costa ones in the petrol stations are the worst warm weak coffee.
  14. Change the chain on it too, that husky chain you get with it is truly terrible it holds it back from cutting properly
  15. Search for borders training
  16. 3/8 has a bigger cutter obviously so in theory it cuts faster as it takes more wood out in one stroke. Some saws cope well with a 3/8 some don't, it's personal preference really. If you stick a 3/8 chain and sprocket on a ms026 it'll probably bog down unless you mainly fell soft woods then it might work well but stick the chain and sprocket on a 560 and it'll cut brilliantly in all types of wood
  17. Of course not that's how you you refuel isn't it
  18. I don't think he has one judging by the PPE

    Ms200t

Keep it till it dies. Then replace bits to keep it living longer haha
  20. I'm not big on stoves but I've heard of aga I'm looking at the wentlock are these stoves built well and what would the life expectancy be? I've got a feeling spuds mate wants one of these little stoves, I've looked at a few and it was this one that caught my eye. The price is decent, it looks really nice and it's a name that stands out from the rest basically because I've heard of aga
  21. I'm looking at getting the little aga this year it seemed well made and from what I've heard aga make decent bits of kit but if someone has one I'd like to know what you think too. Sorry spud that didn't help you but this could be helpful to me as well

    Juddering saw

When I seen the title I instantly thought he's bought a 540 that husquvarna chain is terrible. It sounds like a bad chain. Stick to sthil/oregan I've used other makes and it's not worth the hassle specially to save a few quid. If not as others have suggested could be a problem with the saw
  23. Bad helmet and bad ear defenders/visor combo just my opinion I had one for about 2 months and it's was terrible. The petzel hat and msa combo is the best I've come across. It's personal opinion I suppose and in my opinion I like my hearing and sight haha
  24. I'm in a bad mood today, once I'm in a good mood I'll give you the pros haha
  25. I charge £105-£150 depends on how far I need to travel. Is it worth it? No it isn't worth it, you turn up with a few grands worth of kit that constantly needs replacing/repairing. You don't get holidays or a pension. You need to keep 1 day out of 5 back to pay tax you also need to keep a little back for NI. You can be dropped at any point for reasons that are not your fault. I also find when subbing in employers and employees expect you to do everything because your on X£££ amout per day so you can easily burn yourself out. I've found that a subbing is a bit of stop gap for climbers they get sick of their old job fancy a change (it is a nice change) and either set up properly or head back into employment Yes I'm jacking in the subbing I've got loads of work on (4 months of it) but quality of life and security comes first for me I've got a family and a house to pay for I'm heading off to utilities Oh I forgot to add and this really boils my piss company's trying to haggle down your day rate!!! Oh and sometimes it takes 30 days to get paid
