  1. Yes you need to notify the council, basically so they can inform the emergency services
  2. The ball lock is an auto 3 way krab isn't it??
  3. I seen a brand new hilux mewp yesterday I'm not sure how it'll perform but it looked like the same gear you get on a land rover. It was a smart piece of kit. I like the tracked mewps but I find them a bit top heavy and when tracking them in they're prone to falling over on the smallest incline.
  4. If you win that does that mean those trees are yours and you can do what you want with them??
  5. It appears £120 is the norm it sounds great but breaking it down it actually isn't. I would never set myself up af a subby if I only had 1 years experience, you'd be better off being employed with benefits like holidays etc
  6. Things haven't really changed my day rate is £100 (mates) to £200 but my normal rate is between £120-140 I'm an experienced climber With 8 years behind me 5 of which I was a team leader at a big firm. If prices go up my date rate will go up. I'm actually leaving this freelancing business for a while and becoming employed. I usually make around £550-690 per week but take off tax, NI, repairs to saws (chains/bars are a big one), replace bit of climbing kit and PPE, also the time I'm not working and sending off invoices also planning for days off which you won't be paid for, chasing money owed and being expected to to dismantle the world in one day it's just not worth my while I budget around £30 a week for replacement parts for my saws/PPE & climbing kit. You never know what's going to happen but what I do know is a pair of pants and boot will last around 12 months and divide the cost up it works out at around £7 per week
  7. If you're bringing your own saws and climbing kit I'd say 60-70 if I'm being honest. 1 years experience isn't great specially if your asked to climb
  8. I will do mate it'll probably be next weekend
  9. Haha no it wasn't aimed at you
  10. I'm not bashing DMM I'm just letting people know, i imagine mines 1 in a million
  11. I used warm water the thing is I've always cleaned them in warm water, that's the only DMM krab I've got, the rest are ISC krabs and I've had no issues cleaning them. I'm from up north so I bought it from gusthearts. Honestly I'd have another one I liked it and it worked well maybe I got bad one.
  12. I've got a soft spot for the Jensen A340t it's slow, heavy and cumbersome but if you can get it in the rollers it'll take it
  13. Graphite won't fix that The insides have fell out I've been climbing for 8 years and I've never had anything like this happen
  14. You can do fast decents with lockjack just pull the toggle as hard as you can (actually don't haha) I've held up both and the lock jack seems to be made of better quality materials. With the lockjack you can put it on midline which is handy I suppose. Once you get the hang of the lockjack the jerkiness when descending will disappear it's like riding a bike really. When I got mine I used it a few times then it stayed in my bag for about a year I just couldn't get on with it but now it makes life and my back so much better in large trees. I still use a prussik in small trees
  15. I know it's not to helpful but surely a 7 inch tracked chipped will be better I never really understood the point of a 6 inch tracked, I highly recommend the greenmech not the 150 though the greenmech safe track 19-28 other than that a Jensen A540 is good too
  16. I honestly have no idea, I was cleaning my kit up this afternoon and the krab wouldn't shut after i took it off my lockjack. This krab stays on my lockjack on the harness point so the gate doesn't really get much use
  17. Hopefully you can see the plastic bush (?) that's somehow came loose which stops the krab from functioning
  18. Just thought I'd let you guys know I've had one of these fail after 2 weeks of use
  19. I don't think it's complicated at all, if you get a freelance climber in for a day you've employed him for 1 day he's a labor only contractor as he's 1 man with a small amount of tools working under direction and they'll be working under your insurance. If you hire in a company who's going to carry out work with out your involvement then he/they are a bonafide sub contractors and they'll need to hold the relevant insurances I think people think to much into things and start to get their knickers in a twist about things. Clear your head and start over it's not complicated at all
  20. Try arbtech machinery GreenMech Wood Chippers & Rayco Stump Grinders from Arbtech Machinery they're based in Durham and they've got one they hire out and it's probably for sale
  21. I wouldn't of dismantled it by rope and harness I'd of felled it or used a mewp. I also wouldn't let any of the lads I was with climb it no matter how keen they are. Some things just aren't worth a few more quid in your pocket
  22. I've been thinking of an X-trail they seem like the best 4x4 for the money. I've got a shogun pinin its great but it would be useless to carry people and materials about
  23. Short
  24. It looks like a mix of willow sycamore and whitebeam
  25. As weird as it may sound it might be better hiring one for a day, a new one will chip perfectly and be faultless but a used hire one gives you a better idea of how the machine will perform after it's worn in and had some use
