  1. I may have text him about my hypothetical beech tree, he said he only does it for wood and it needs to be straight felled if I want to keep the wood I'll have to pay him
  2. Jensen, better in every way, for a start the bolts that hold the blades on aren't made of cheese
  3. £1600 after tax ect = around £19000 in the year, that my friend is a very good wage
  4. I would but Guy falks had a go and it didn't end well for that chap
  5. That's true but like myself and millions of other people we expected pensions and to retire at 65.
  6. I applied for a job which I was more than qualified for and so did a few other mates of mine and we didn't even get a interview for the position, I believe if a job comes up the role will already be filled internally or be filled by people who have contacts in the FC

    New gear

I agree with the hi flex and the cheap blue haix as a starting point for basic PPE they're comfortable and reliable
  8. I think we'd have more sympathy if you guys weren't well paid that's the issue, I graft my ass off and so do most members on this forum for a decent living we've got the stress off finding work to support our family's and tbh the last thing we want to do is sort out a pension specially since these days a pensions seems to be a luxury . Yes you've got a raw deal now but at least you've got a deal the majority of us here have no 'deal' and I dare say that most of the uk have no 'deal' maybe that's why we're so critical of the strikes and 2nd jobs
  9. I agree they're the best boots I've had. Although I find them very hot in the summer and very cold in the winter maybe it's just me though I also find them to be a very slippy boot in the wet, but I'd definitely buy another pair

    Uniform

Appearance is everything these days. It also promotes the business you work for. If I was a member of the public and I seen two different outfits working in my street one outfit had football tops and scruffy t-shirts on and the other had nice company polo shirts on I know which company I'd approach first if I wanted tree work doing Spending a few quid on company work gear can make you money
  11. On the flip side and to go off the dog eat dog world comment, if these guys with their well paid jobs stopped trading as tree surgeons maybe this would give us a few more full time jobs in our industry. Food for thought Btw I'm not having ago at anyone for doing this
  12. I wasn't being narrow minded, I know people need two jobs to get by but that wasn't what I said. I said people who have well paid full time job then run an arb business on the side.
  13. That's true
  14. I'm not sure what to think when people who have a well paid full time job then run an arb business on the side, I find it a bit cheeky unless the person has been through what most of us have been through years at college ect then I kind of think think fair play to them, they've took advantage of the great position they're in. I'm slightly annoyed that they'll be be taking work off full time arb businesses. Just my 2 pence Btw I'm a full time freelance climber

    Pruning cuts

I always prune properly even on utility stuff but I do question if it's the right thing to do, at the end of the day I'm putting wounds in a tree go or bad cuts the tree doesn't care in my opinion it's aesthetics for pruning cuts Edit; drunk reply
  16. Thanks for that, it appares to be a grey ish area, I've driven past police and have police behind me and they've never battered an eye lid. But I'll inform and have a bit crack on with boss of the company who owns the tractor, he's a decent guy and I suspect he already knows this
  17. I'm a subby so I kinda do as I'm told or risk losing work. The tractor in question is ran on white derv, is plated up, insured and taxed
  18. I didn't say I was scared of it haha I said it was mental that it's legal for me to tow it. I actually enjoy it it a bit more relaxed than driving a van
  19. I occasionally use a john deer and pull a trailer with a multcher on it, 22-24mph its painfully slow. I also think it's mental that I can do this, I've got my driving licence and trailer licence that's it! This tractor is solely used to tow the multcher to jobs. Quick question with the licence I have could I pull a trailer with the mulcher on with a uni mog?
  20. Thanks mate I'll check out the timber dogs. Currently I'm looking like my 18in husky bar will last 2-3 chains which is very disappointing so I think I may may contact rob in the spring early summer for a snazzy sugi bar (providing I've not went bankrupt haha), didn't mean to derail the thread but thought it was more usefull to people if I asked than messaged stubby
  21. Can I ask how much you paid for that bar? I'm interested in getting one I'm sick of husky bars I want my money's worth out of a bar. Also that looks like a 560 if so where did you get those timber dogs from? I'd be interested in putting them on my 560 Edit; I'm running a 3/8 chain on my 560
  22. Not owning a forst but used one quite a few times and I think it's a cracking machine, I'm a big fan of jensons, I like the way everything is easily accessible and I mean everything, I also like the way that every grease nipple is in one place so you can't really miss a greasing point when maintain the machine. Although the lad that owns the machine has had countless problems with it, the feed roller gets jammed open and some other issues that I wasn't there to experience, once I work with him again I'll let you know what's went wrong with it. Btw this was his second forst the first one was sent back He has sent his machine (the 2nd one) back and has been given a refund
  23. It's not a bad machine it all depends on what you'll be using it for, if you'll be doing a lot of site clearance jobs it won't be fast enough to be constantly fed brash, but if you mainly do garden jobs it'll be perfect. It's essentially a 150 arborist with a petrol engine. Get one on demo/hire that'll be my best advice
  24. That's why we've developed calluses for these moments
  25. Invoice2go for the iPhone/android I've got it linked to my wife's phone it's awesome, looks good and it's easy to use. After a days work I can send my invoice off before I leave
