Yeah orchard prunings, I worked in a 70 acre orchard in Devon for 10 years before I moved to Berkshire but I'm planing to move back to Devon next year and will prob do more apple tree pruning then. We always used to just bonfire the cut branches before but if we could make turn them into chunks and chip the rest and it was worth doing then I could supply you with chunks and chip. This won't happen until December 2015 at the earliest so will you still need it then?

The company I work for started buying 261's when they replaced the 260 but every saw had clutch bearing issues and eventually the dealer took all 6 or 7 saws back and we replaced them with stihl 362's. Now, my 362 is about 1 year old and last Friday it didn't sound quite rite and when I took the clutch off the bearing housing had melted! Yet to fit a new one so not sure if I need a new clutch drum, but apart from that I like my 362, a bit sluggish, but I'm only a tree surgeon not a forestry cutter. In response to spuds wonderings about the auto tune 362s a couple of lads have them and I used one yesterday, it kept cutting out when idling so was having to rev it between cuts to keep it going. Annoying that I couldn't just turn up the tickover screw, guess it'll have to go back

Found these 3 on a beech tree this week. One stem had already fallen so the rest was felled on Tuesday. I know one is kretzschmaria deusta and one is ganoderma applanatum But not sure of the third one, a young dryads saddle? Not a good guess I know, and probably something simple?

Ahh, I use that in an emergency, no more. Going to switch to aspen in my personal saws. Where can I get aspen near Hungerford or Basingstoke?

Does anyone us a grappling iron to throw into the next tree and then pull across? Saw this done on heli loggers and thought it was a good idea -

Get your groundy to tie it on your rope and then you can pull it up to yourself -
I got stung on the face today and someone suggested orange was acidic so I rubbed a satsuma segment on it. Not good telly, and it didn't help.

I have a Harkie jacket, one without a zip, climbed init last 2 days in the rain with just a t shirt underneath and been bone dry at the end of the day. Don't wear bottoms I don't mind wet legs

Where are you in the country? I used to go ferreting in Cumbria nr Penrith and in Devon, haven't bin for years but I'm gonna start again when my kids are older

Is there any one in England that makes a living pulling logs out of rivers in the uk like there is in the us? Or even any one who does a bit? I think it would be a cool job. Would you need a license or just land owners permission In tidal waters would you even need permission or just somewhere to land your logs? I short, could I do it for a living cos I would sell my house and buy a boat if I could
