  1. Some great pieces there! Congrats to all. I'd love to enter someday just for the experience, wouldn't mind if I didn't sell,a few quid would be a bonus. 3days just carving would be awesome, hard work, but awesome.
  2. They are cool. Nice work.
  3. Short version- made this for wife's nursery, they love it but think it's to scary for the tots, my fault got carried away and t'was a vague brief. They want another, more kiddie friendly, so need to shift this 7ft obstacle from my work space. Made from 6 * 3's, about £130 materials. How much? What sort of price would you expect to pay for this? Just interested in what y'all think and to see if I'm realistic or way off in my expectations. Fire wood? No offence will be taken. Thanks for looking/commenting.
  4. Love it, excellent job!
  5. Pm sent. Cheers NoRush.
  6. Like. Definitely owl. Yeh, smallish wings but a great job, pops out of the photo.
  7. I've gotta say the burning has made it. Top job!
  8. Sweet! Don't knock it, crack on. You'll be a dab hand at dogs soon enough. Another critter to add to your arsenal. If you've got three to quote for, there must be a market for em. Only ever done 1 pug.
  9. Lovely piece. Very nice. Depends what you charge. Carve at your own pace, something out of your comfort zone ie different from the norm, takes me longer. Mostly walking round it thinking. But with the extra time spent the results speak for themselves. Great job!
  10. Well worth the effort mate. I'd do stuff to the N'th degree if I had time to. Sand every mark out and just do the best I could, but i have to have a cut off point somewhere. Especially as I work full time. Not carving unfortunately.
  11. Thank you all for your great comments. It is great to carve something a bit different and get paid to do so. Sometimes nice to have a specific brief, although the proposing pose was my idea ( pats own back) ( also used a plumbing olive for the ring). Not based on anyone in particular, just thought a big tache would make him of the era and a proper gent like. Thanks again.
  12. Did these two a week ago, commission for the grounds of an old ww1 hospital which are now offices. Oak, hard work but the client was chuffed and I'm happy with what I managed within the timescale. Roughly 18 hrs per piece,4 days. Thanks for looking.
  13. Great work Si, both ace but I especially like the horse and cart bench, great idea.
  14. Excellent job mate! Customer must be made up with that.
  15. Lovely piece!
  16. Great work sir! The crouching angel is a beauty.
  17. I use a 181 with a standard bar. No complaints.
  18. Lovely piece dude! See what you mean, waves/water. Think I've seen the effects of that gizmo to do flames, fur on big bears. Gotta get me one of those. Off to sell some organs.
  19. Thank you! Blocked out with ms181 standard14"(need a mid-range saw), then down to a ms192 with 12" carving bar(stihl). Bit of sanding with a 9"grinder, a bit of detailing with finger file(eyes, talons, etc). Burn n oil, fin.
  20. The bench looks perfect as well, totally squared. What wood?
  21. Haven't touched the saws in months, this is my first for a long time. Reawakened the bug! Striving for realisim, but I guess my ability is a bit cartoony/cutsie. Practice makes progress hopefully.
  22. Nice work Si, I find people are a hard subject to carve. Great job!
  23. Very nice, great job mate. Beautiful looking lump of wood too.
  24. Nice them. Get that one off the log pile, nothing wrong with em. I don't think you have to worry too much about an even spiral, adds individual character. Good work mate, keep em coming.
  25. Size and power-wise, I'd say perfect detail saw. See Rob D on here for recommendations on bars and a 1/4 pitch sprocket.
