  1. All great. Nice to see some different stuff.i.e internal/wall hangings. Love the green man, simple lines but very effective.
  2. Very nice.
  3. Those are quality mate. Are they seasoned off- cuts of something. Lovely finish.
  4. Yep! Knew her at school, and nova Carr.
  5. Y'all too kind. It's pants, but you've got start somewhere. Here's my Easter Island head.
  6. Cheers ray(ww), great to get comments from people in the know,(family r always complimentary.
  7. Superb!
  8. You know more than me mate. Just pickin brains. Cheers.
  9. Is that the best stuff for carvings/green wood?
  10. He's a cute lil chap. Acrylic ?
  11. Very nice piece, something to aspire to.
  12. 3 minute speed carve(kitchen knife) Might be a completely stupid question but I just don't know. Do people use chainsaws on pumpkins??? I'm guessing.....nah!
  13. Bigger than it looks then. Like it more, the more I look at it. The grain on its back really lends itself to tortoise shell and great expression.
  14. Cheers abercarver, I'll have a look for that. Might be a tall order since I know nobody in this game. Overheard someone at this years English open say " gratuitous use of the power gauge" about the back of the winning carving by a Japanese fella, which was a kind of mer-horse. It was awesome, and a very cool effect. Like waves or flames or summat. I think now, seeing the effect, I've seen it used on other stuff for a fur texture( big bears and the like) I tend to sand everything smooth, need to learn some techniques for fur, feathers, etc. anything but flat. That's why I want one, but £600,hmmm!
  15. Really like that, make a nice addition to any garden. I'd love to make a really big one.
  16. Have heard of the harrycane, is it just a mini power gouge? And where can you get either of these things? Although 600 quid might be a bit much for a new toy.
  17. Hi again, thank you all muchly for your warm welcome and generous comments, i knew from reading previous threads you'd be a top bunch, but I have to clarify. Sorry if the opening jabber was misleading, I am new to arbtalk and the Donnie darko-esque thingy is my first carving but I've been at it now for two'n'half years on and off ((time/work(builder)/kids(2of under 3)) Thought it would be good etiquette to share humble beginnings as I'm sure most have. Posted an otter pic in the otter thread which is about a year old, hopefully better than my giraffe. Practice makes progress and any advice from you guys who defo know what your talking about is golden. Thanks again, will post pics of my latest, tomorrow which has ceased progress due to not wanting to f it up.
  18. Hi all,I'm new here, been watching for a bit,but thought it was about time I got involved and share some pics since I've been looking at all your stuff for a while.(which is all great by the way) Come to realise that everyone has their own interpretation and style when it comes to carving, and while there are some outstanding artists,I wouldn't poo poo anybodies efforts, it's all experience and practice. I'm not a arborist or the like, just a hobby carver, so a very steep learning curve to start out. Funny when I read stuff like I wish I could do that,or how talented someone is, granted some folk "have an eye" for it, but everyone knows what a mushroom looks like, have a doo. Having said all that, here's my first ever effort. Not sure what it is, didn't start off with a clear vision in mind(which helps) just a "woodland creature" ??? Had to stop carving due to the tears off laughter rolling down my face. Please comment/ rip the etc. P.s. It's not for sale.
  19. Love em. It's great to see all the different ideas on the same subject. Like the ring concept. Swimming otter seat is class. There's some serious talent out there.
  20. Here's one I carved a while ago, was pretty chuffed with it.
