  5. looks like a kiwi with frost on it?
  6. I only went and had a look as I was going past his house so yes I would be doing it as part of a normal days work. He isn't back till Monday and the only reason he knew the tree was down was his next door neighbours emailed him. To be fair the clean up isn't going to be that much of a big deal
  7. A friend of the family is away for x-mass and has been away since Saturday. Got an email from him this morning to say a very large ash tree at the bottom of his garden had fallen across the road some time on mon/tus and the police had called out someone to clear the road. Been down this morning to have a look and as you would expect on a call out the minimum has been done to get the road open. As it stands now there is about 10' and the root plate left on his side, a load of brash and rings left on the side of the road, and the crown is on some waste ground on the other side of the road and about a 10' gap that has been cleared to let cars through. Any way his question is A. Who pays for the call out work that has been done? B. Can I give him a price to finish off clearing up without stepping on anyone's toes I have never done call out work for the police/LA so have no idea how it works
  8. try reading the title to his add! and yes I have read his add and spoken to the guy
  9. how do you know that he isn't a fully qualified tree surgeon who would take it down in the same way as any other tree surgeon?
  10. what exactly is misleading about his add?
  11. I would happily pay for "arb waste" if it was of a usable size and local ish
  12. if you say so fella
  13. also people are happy to pay £40-£50 for cord wood I bet you could get a fair bit down in a day if the cord is your payment!
  14. I think its a bit off giving the guy a hard time! at the end of the day he is not doing anything wrong. just trying to make a living like you and me and if he thinks he can make it pay then good luck to him
  15. Whats the shortest amount of time that you have had fuel go bad? just asking as been logging this morning and the saw just would not run properly. tried everything i could think of filters, plug and so on then thought i would just give some new fuel a go as a last result. Ended up that that was what the problem was bought new fuel mixed it up drained the old out and away the saw went good as new! the old fuel was at max 4-5 weeks old as i only buy enough to last a few weeks at a time (and im a tight ex farmer lol ) never had fuel go bad so quickly before. was bought from a local Tesco that has a large fuel turnover as well
  16. my friend has a navara reg'ed as agric, I think this I what he said but not 100% sure. he can drive no more than 1km on the road in one go but if he has 5 fields spaced as 1km apart he can drive to one then the next and the next and so on. he had to fill in a map showing wear he would be driving also showing that it was no more than 1km between stops. he can only use the truck for his own work not for hire or reward
  17. this is the first xmass that I will not be working in 15+ years. I was a dairy farmer and it was just part of the job. to be fair I would rather be working as not a big fan of x-mass each to there own though
  18. agreed x2
  19. was a farm manager on a 350 cow dairy for 10 years (till last November) said I would never go near a cow again the owner was a D&*k then got offered a job relief milking on a very laid back 180cow organic farm. on a cheese contract, once a day milking, all cows dried off over minter, very easy work and the owner is good as gold! so different from the last farm
  20. for milk or meat? there are a few new meat farms starting that I have been told about lately and they seam to be doing well but its a limited market
  21. im not arb im a landscaper but I go titty fiddling every other weekend....
  22. just don't buy one that's been on a dairy farm! we would px out our old quad every 18 months and they were well and truly destroyed by the time they got sent on. same with most things rely if its been on a dairy farm steer well clear of it
  23. just get a photo of thatcher. if you look at it and think to yourself yeh id give It go then your probably over the limit
  24. last thing I got given was some home made jam with cat hairs in it!
  25. several different manufacturers make it with lifespans from 3-5 years think it depends on how many microns thick the film is
