  1. I've not said anything about benefits, I've claimed for zero and hopefully never will. I'm saying just paying more achieves nothing, maybe I was brought up to ask for nothing and expect nothing.
  2. Well that's assuming your partner isn't atleast working part time. Even if you say 15-20k part time, plus the 40k isn't a bad earning for a household if you have kids. You can't just have 50k as a minimum wage, false minimum wage just distorts the economy. And still would fail to achieve your goal. A loaf of own brand supermarket bread at 50k would be £8.
  3. Yeap that's the one, it's the same as the one on HETAS site 🙂. Valiant Moisture Meter | Colour Change SHOP.HETAS.CO.UK Valiant Moisture Meter Colour Change
  4. I use a Valiant one as it was the recommend one for the firewood certification scheme. To be honest they're all much of a muchness at a under £30 level. You can verify the reading against a set resistor value as it's a ohm meter lookup chart that's available online.
  5. If you were in an occupied country they didn't give you much chance to refuse to do as instructed, well you could refuse but it affected your career, kinda. Cleaning up the serial number will tell you everything, either way the authorities will no doubt be required even in it's scrap heap state.
  6. Thermal overload
  7. Can't believe nobody said "A brass cap in his ass".
  8. Same here, I never leave it full overnight and definitely with the drain left open. Whilst it might be safe during the daytime when required, if it's not needed it's not on as realistically unless you're a garage who gets them inspected you don't need air 24/7.
  9. Aren't they magnesium, even if it's an alloy it might turn into one giant Roman candle. If anyone is brave enough, can you video it just incase!.
  10. We've discussed this before as I'm somewhat like you agricultural wise, but I don't automatically assume it's all bad as a default. I'm low input farming, just don't agree with any rewilding when low impact sheep do a better job. Grain growing is probably the only one where it's max output but go watch Ollyblogs for a better idea of where the industry is heading. The reality is lower inputs= lower output, so acreage has to increase to equal the same output.
  11. From what I've read you don't just dose them prevention for varroa, it's not like spot on for bees. I don't seem to understand your default everything is bad attitude to farming or anything even faintly agricultural. You do seem to have that as your default, we are not American style farming and never have been. UK farming is pretty sustainable, we aren't denuding the countryside for a quick buck and then spending more money artificially keeping things alive.
  12. I'm assuming that's more of the charity restoration canal trusts as apposed to the CRT ?.
  13. Two cube falls outside of the firewood seasoning rules, technically you have to give them a leaflet explaining how to dry them tho. But we'll leave that minefield of a discussion to another day.
  14. Having native bluebells in your woodlands certainly helps to focus the mind on clearing the overgrowth and things like horrible holly trees. The more you clear the greater the carpet of bluebells, it's become something of a tradition of posting my once a year Facebook post with a picture.
  15. Just what anyone wants in their garden, a tree that smells of c*m. Roll out the queen victoria sketch.
  16. It all depends on what you want to achieve in the end, if it's native and natural leave thinning decisions til summer. Focus on thinning canopy cover and keeping the undergrowth clear, especially for access and keeping a clear line of sight for squirrel control etc. Whilst it looks barren in winter in July it's like a blackout.
  17. Jebus, it'll be a three way tie of evilness. Even Satan himself would bow out for lack of "game". Maybe I'm showing my age but I have watched paradise PD https://youtu.be/F0ZhsMZ9RXo
  18. I'm still not sure if Klas or tony is the more evil bond villain. I'm sure tony has spent more nights plotting world domination instead of going to bed with Cherie, even the thought does bring a bit of sick to the back of the throat.
  19. Wasn't that the US air force not airline pilots?
  20. I live by everyone is picky about firewood until it's cold.
  21. I wasn't advocating any option in particular, it all depends how quickly you want a return. As I said at worst it's biomass, depends on if you've the time, space etc to separate. Maybe do that next time once you have a feeling for who, where, what and how much 🙂
  22. I wasn't wanting to be the wood police, but you never know. It's the old doing it yourself cheap and taking a dogs age Vs paying for someone's time. Obviously biomass is the lowest paying but it gets gone quickly.
  23. Presumably you're selling what has been licensed or legally felled?. As unless it's all above board you're not going to have a huge stockpile of timber.
  24. He has been right a lot of the time, I'm more wondering what's really going on. Arden has announced she's stepping down, Trudeau will probably be next. The real question is what they do next!. Blair already has his eyes on the Wef instead of uncle Klas the bond villain. And no that's not moonbat, a young PM doesn't just go I'm outta here without a plan. Hated she might be but there is a till ringing somewhere.
  25. Definitely in the burn anything category too, generally keep the lump size down and providing it's dry it burns.
