  1. The bottom line here is the term Agricultural vehicle/tractor. Once you have elected to register the thing as this you are bound by the rules. The law is quite clear on this and there have been no test cases brought before the High court to overturn it, until then no precedence has been set and nor is it likely. Vosa have dozens of Mogs a year that go through a plating for those wanting to use them commercially and they have to run as a commercial operator, which also means white diesel and paying for the road tax. " Have a read about this chap that got stopped on an "A" road with an ag registered mog. If Vosa could have proved non ag use he would have been done.   2. I recently had to run my mates Fastrack and flail into the tm zone on the M25 with the artic because he was not allowed to drive it there. It was less that 1 mile but it was a firm no. Bob
  3. I highly recommend the Trelleborg forestry tyres. We run them on the mulchers and went from dozens of punctures,rips with heaps of down time per month to absolutely zero.They are very hard and there is a trade off with them in terms of traction but they are the right tire for the job Bob
  4. Had another play on the mill the other day. Managed so far to get a couple of decent 9x9 posts, 20 lengths of 8x2, about 10 lengths of 6x2 a few 8x1 boards some 2x2 and a load of really nice close boarding. I am still struggling with looking at the log and working out the best plan of attack to minimise waste. Bob

    Pick ups

    Our old hilux tipper is a home grown job. I just cut down a transit tipper body and fitted it straight to the chassis.   7. We use this Product: CARLUBE 2 STROKE MOTORCYCLE OIL Not had any issues with it in over fifteen years and its under a tenner a gallon at our wholesalers. Bob

  11. +1 , I have always had good service from these trucks. I think the only mistake Isuzu made with the 3ltr was not recalling them for the mod, instead they just fixed the broken ones which gave them a bad name. If your thinking of buying one it would be worth getting underneath and checking for tin worm. Bob
  12. We use a compressor but the best on site way of cleaning I have seen is with a contraption a lad knocked up himself. He had fitted a reducer in the end of his hand held leaf blower tube to take a flexible 1" diameter hose, unbelievably effective. Bob
  13. We built the thing from scratch Gray about 15 years ago. Its a cherry picker off our defunct transit. The winch was a spare hydraulic unit we had kicking about We were destroying too many baskets so we fabricated one in steel, never had a problem since. The cut down van back has a full width locker in the side which is spot on for cans , saws and kit, behind the seats inside there is a shelf over the top of the lockers which is handy for all the other clutter the lads need . The cage also comes in handy to for somewhere to strap down pole saws etc, to call it a handy truck is understatement. Bob

I suppose now that we have hijacked Joels thread we might as well carry on Thats a mother of a lift for a landy Gray On the back of ours we fitted a 6 ton hydraulic winch betwwen the chassis rails with spades that run off a diverter valve from the picker hydraulics. Also fitted a pull out drawbar, it comes out about 3 feet. It all gets a bit heavy and the old landy engine used to struggle a bit so we fitted 3.5 litre nissan patrol engine in it. All up its about 2.8 tons Bob
  15. We caged ours in right up to the front bumper, its a handy lower platform for hedges etc as well as protection. There is also a lug on the cage that the cherry picker lower boom locates in which keeps it all tight when transporting Bob

I think you will want a double axle balanced trailer of one sort or another for a hiab/timber trailer , mogs+heavy trailers are evil things to drive on rough old roads because they are relatively softly sprung, you tend to get launched around the cab when towing any kind of weight on a drawbar .   17. If you have time on your hands it may pay search out artic trailers that come off Guernsey . By their laws they are narrower and sort of mog perfect, they do turn up at auctions on the mainland and normally have very few takers which makes them very cheap.   18. I would start with something like this Abel Demount ISO Twistlock Drawbar Trailer | eBay Junk the twin wheels and fit some super singles with a different offset to get the overall width down to that of the Mog. Bob

  20. Me and my mate set the woodmizer up next to the grab trailer today to give it a shake down. managed to get a 9x9 post and 5 lengths of 10x2 out of a couple of the smaller sticks.

  24. Most here would have a different take on this but mine would be to fit the hiab on the back and make the tipper a three way tip. Down side to this is that some of what you tip tends to end up under the truck. The upside is the clear 180 degrees of crane usage and the ability to load a trailer as well. Decisions decisions Bob
