Ha ha, not again! That's why I put up the 3rd picture, I presume you mean the side snips? Cos A. It's how I was trained to do it (although a choice to carry it on) B. They don't rip up the stem or down into the root plate (more important on over stood ash/hornbeam etc coppice) C. Out of habit n D. Cos I'm a tad OCD. I also cut toes off sometimes!

I reckon you'd need to take both wheels off, I saw a tw chipper with a snapped stub axle on the side of the rd a couple of yrs ago and passed it goin the other way an hr later with a length of wood wedging it up ( you can see example of someone doin something similar on you tube ) Or you could put on removable torsion axles on: my palax processor has em n they quick to take off

Hi Alec, I didn't mean to sound so flippant, I know that many smaller farmers cannot afford to experiment but there is plenty of opportunity for large farms to experiment they're just not interested, it's too big a leap for them. Tractors can have new implements modified/ developed. Anyway good on you for havin a go at it ( I'm doing it on a much smaller scale: 12 50m2 raised beds ). Have you considered using biochar in the soil? It helps dissipate water in heavy clay and holds it in sandier soils ( presume you on heavy clayin Essex?) as well as havin other benefits, john -

No because they're bein paid to burn it all to keep em warm wiv the doors n windows open! oh n I don't think it works if you plough it in. Also they'd need less subsidies cos there's less weedin n no spraying to do n we couldn't have that! -

Hi if it's any help as regards your hole, I just looked at an old tecomec pot (off 026) and it's the same. Think the hole is to allow plug spanner to fit over plug, from memory the Stihl ones were close fitting. Don't wanna divert off topic toouch but can anyone point me in the direction of a good quality make pot n piston for 346xpg ( I just mixed 20lt of fuel n dint shake the can, my son decanted into combi filled up n saw died after 20 mins) I'm not popular! It's rife throughout East Anglia ( I live about 10m from Ashwellthorpe where it was 'first' spotted and I've seen it in pretty much every wood we've worked in also it was in saplings/young road side trees all the way up the A1 to Sheffield last summer. It is so sad to see the decline of my favourite and most versatile of trees, and the chances of finding/keeping resistant stock are reducing as estates etc are being encouraged to fell all their good ash by some export company. : ( : (

Balls! I keep doin that! Went to a Grown in Britain thingy last year and thee was a company there encouraging growers etc to fell and sell all there good ash to them for export to the Far East ( they used what has happened in Denmark as an example of why we should fell early here i.e. Milled ash prices collapse and we're left with acres of rotting timber and dangerous trees ) but we then risk losin resistant stock. I live in Norfolk and we see it all over it's too late, the same with larch. I don't think there's a conspiracy this is just the result of **** bio-security in the uk and it won't get better until we start acting more like the US, Oz, NZ etc and tighten up! Started using slings n screw gate krabs for lowering (nothing huge) about a year ago and haven't looked back or damAged any kit etc and you can have 2or3 'pre slung' while waiting for rope to return, has speeded things up a bit:) But still use hitches etc as well Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk -
