  1. My missus wasn't happy when she thought she read 'Rate My Minge' ! : )
  2. Think it would be cheaper to turn 3.5t truck into 4x4! The front axles / transfer boxes on the transit counties were imported from US ( Borg Warner and Chrysler ). Most other bits were fairly simply engineered apart from gearbox which was made by same people who made MT 75 for ford and looked same but had slight difference in internal rear end to allow for connection to transfer box. I'm not an engineer but had lots of fun fiddling with em! Incidentally the new(inferior) AWD tranny was, I believe, designed for ford by Eric May of Countytrac ( formerly County) and they still carry spares for the later countys.
  3. Don't know what's goin on with Otley, they certainly hav enough gear compared with therir 'partner' Easton! Will make enquiries n be in touch!
  4. Were on Norfolk/ Suffolk boarder incidentally
  5. Matt, Thinking about it one of the guys who subs for me wants to do 32, so could maybe organise training course for 2 to 4 ? I will speak to friend who trains at Easton if your interested? John
  6. Otley , Easton, Lark Valley, Andy Campbell, Chalkie White or any other provider could sort cs32, plenty o trees big enough for cs33 was a pointless excercise as you were just repeating the same techniques ona bigger tree, s'a doddle! : )
  7. States Renault on the bonnet!
  8. This was on fleabay for months ( my ideal vehicle ) but by the time I'd raised funds ....... Gone! Had a couple of county transit vansand a Newton Abbot transit tipper 4x4 conversion were all capable off road work vehicles!
  9. Do you mean fire mimicry? Sorry I'm just a saw jockey who on occasion impersonates a conker on a string and has an occasional interest in tofu welding. But overwhelmingly worries about the future of our woodlands!
  10. Ok, think I understand but wild this work with p. ramorum and how would you roll it out at speed ( considering the rapidity it seems to have spread at ) . Incidentally how are the lawsons 18 or so yrs on?
  11. How do you change/ improve the soil around thousands of hectares of young to mature trees trees on difficult terrain (notably Wales and Scotland)?
  12. Gransfors Bruks make a heavy duty curved drawknife for debarking log cabin timbers (woodsmith store sells em), windy smithy also make one the same but a tad dearer I recall. Bought a Gr Br one and it's excellent! I also have 2 Morris bark peelers as in Gnomes link ( one large one small ) but they are more for debarking for tannery bark. Hope this is helpful, John
  13. We have lots of trouble with the little bastards in our wood, for ages I thought much of the damage being done to hornbeams at ground level was muntjac but now realise it is juvenile greys in spring, apparently they get stressed in high population and do more random damage. We had several kania traps set up over 40 acres and only 1 trapped in 18 months, we put this down to the copious seed on mature hornbeam and pine/spruce cones. I've shot hundreds with air rifle but you just create vacuum and get more! There's a good FC pdf that states multi traps at specific times of year. Personally I reckon pine martens would be highly effective !!

  15. Just wondering if raised bed is more recent than the plum, could be cause?
  16. I like em but my whole family spazz out whenever they strafe our turf, a few years ago my daughter heard a scratching sound behind our caravan and when she looked found a hornet with an emperor dragonfly, she ( the hornet not my lass! ) nipped off the wings n legs and cut the rest of it into sections and made four journeys up into a nearby oak it took about 30 mins. My patterdale was stung when a pup he looked like he had a squash ball over his nose ( not happy ) To deter them from nesting to close I sit watch with the blower and blast em until they decide to go elsewhere: it's worked the last 3yrs although they do make several attempts before giving up!
  17. This film has a little bit of swamp cypress falling
  18. Well done for makin em last so long! You could do worse than trying Andrew 'Cervino' boots ( think honey brothers now sell em ) I've had mine just under a year and scarcely a mark on em, really hard wearing leather and very comfy, they've done about 3months climbing work and the rest forestry including a couple of months on a very wet Scottish mountain! Only criticism is like most of these 'waterproof' boots is they don't seem to like long wet grass. I pretty much live in em : )
  19. Know they're indian, was just makin a cheap vehicle comparison (: knew they are a hooge company but not that they'd bought tetley!
  20. That's great, I love watchin these old films! Have you seen the swamp loggers felling from canoes?
  21. Choppier in Sheffield: Codraphenia
