Started using slings n screw gate krabs for lowering (nothing huge) about a year ago and haven't looked back or damAged any kit etc and you can have 2or3 'pre slung' while waiting for rope to return, has speeded things up a bit:) But still use hitches etc as well Sent from my iPhone using Arbtalk

  11. Hi I've had 6"x10"long bits of it stop 15t on my processor! Cut em all at 8" an would then split up to 10"di.
  12. Spot on:) the engine not original i had new pistons/liners in and the fuel pump fully reconned (ouch!) and when was sourcing bits found lump was made up of other ones. Runs lovely now but don't like starting in the cold if left lounging for a few days or so. And the slew rings started leakin:(

  14. Here's my Nuffield was told it's called a forest bear and it originally came from forestry commission it's been a handy tool.
  15. It's a bit far for me (although tempting), we're tryin to source everything as locally as possible ( 30mile radius of Norwich or Bungay)
  16. Timber haulier was buying a lot of what we were felling (for a customer) last season and it all went £45+ vat roadside regardless of species but mostly syc. n ash think he had about 8/9 hundred tonne

  18. Yeah it's very satisfying debarking thuja! Also nice to chisel joints although a bit brittle, how small a diameter do you go down to for your stools?

There's probably about a dozen roughly that size which are any good for milling, so i want em all as I have a roundwood frame to do in the near future and I'm gathering wood for cladding, shingles etc. incidentally I'm lookin for Lawson cypress or sweet chestnut standing at about 8" dbh in Norfolk or Suffolk?
