  1. Ordered an Alaskan Small Log Mill & the vertical Mini Mill from Rob at Chainsawbars ? chainsaw chains, chainsaw bars and chainsaw accessories ....(received very fast & with a couple of very useful freebie goody surprises!, Thanks Rob, top man!!.... and also thanks for your advice). I'm looking at making the guide runner for the vertical log mill to run along; the instructions suggest using a 4" by 6" length of wood. But I've got an aluminium plastering feather edge and wondered if anyone has tried using one instead of the wooden beam?.... should be much lighter to carry into the woods, and possibly a little smoother to push the mill across. It's not 4" wide but it does fit the width of the mill okay. Any thoughts on using the aluminium feather edge? Mines about 6ft in length. Cheers, Steve Premium Quality Levels, Feather Edges, Eagle Grip, Box Sections & Rules
  2. Any merit in cutting a small slit to poke the front bottom edge of the L into the ground? I presume this would prevent it from lifting & leaving gaps for those pesky wabbits to sneak under. Also, where is a good place to buy the wabbit pwoof fencing from? Cheers, Steve
  3. Sorry to hear this TCD. And that's really scary to hear someone got shot - not good to hear things have escalated to that level. Surely the police should take that much more seriously?.....
  4. To me a tree is worth a lot more as a tree than firewood or furniture. Cheers, Steve
  5. Our greenest government ever.
  6. ...and thanks for that link I read that as "BT would need to give us at least some compensation to the owner of the tree." Is that right?!
  7. Hey thanks Mat, that's a great help. We'll try speaking with BT in the week, and post the results here. Cheers, Steve
  8. Yes, the trees and BT wire run along a roadside verge, small country lane. Which bit of the Telecommunications Act 1984 refers to trees? Looks like a very big document! Cheers, Steve Telecommunications Act 1984
  9. Not sure mate. Not even sure about our trees tangled in their crappy line?! Double checked and we don't have a wayleave for the BT line. So I'll be calling BT next week, from my mobile phone, and see how it goes.... I'll be calling from my mobile phone because we don't have a landline at home (didn't want to pay the expensive BT line rental!)
  10. Human beings... find something rare, panic, kill it! Oh well, it's dead now.... and it's not your fault our education system is so lacking in educating about nature. ....keep this thread in mind, try thinking a little deeper next time. Cheers, Steve
  11. Try this thread for size: http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/general-chat/69137-meindl-airstream-boot-size-small-side.html
  12. Even slack lines become taught, it's from all those gale force winds we had. Every tree is now leaning a bit more into the line.
  13. Oh okay. I'll get one of those silky pole saws and disconnect them from our woodland.... tell them to move to the opposite side of the road. Cheers
  14. Cheers, I'll check the deeds in case there's a wayleave.
  15. Some of the branches are pushing on the line quite a bit. Bit worried that the line may snap in the next batch of heavy wind.
  16. Looks like a Kates Bush.
  17. I've tried looking for some kind of tree policy thing on the BT website - without luck. May have to call Buzby for advice....
  18. BT have three poles running along the edge of our woodland (next to a small road). The supply is only to a neighbours house (we have no connection to the line). A bunch of our trees have grown their branches into the line and really need cutting back. Are BT responsible for cutting our trees back or are we expected to do this ourselves? Cheers, Steve
  19. Without some good insulation there are two times of the year when the temperature feels just right; Spring & Autumn. The winter is very, very cold.... the summer is very, very hot. With insulation and a wood burner you'll love it. Cheers Steve.
  20. Not surprised Jon, many people are in the same boat, and with the way things are right now that boat is gonna sink!! Energy prices are only set to rise. Could do with a petition running to get the law changed. Houses should not be allowed to be rented out unless they have basic effieciency measures in place. Frankly I don't worry so much about my own comfort... it's our 2 year old I worry about. Turning down the heat leads to black mould, and inevitably coughs, colds & asthma. Cheers, Steve
  21. It needs 3 units of double glazing upstairs, a new condensing boiler, insulated hot water tank, double dormer insulation (lots of celotex + plasterboard), three insulated access doors and rolls of itchy loft insulation.... Can't afford that either!
  22. We weren't exactly spoilt for choice when we were looking, so the EPC is irrelevant, especially when compared to being homeless. If we ask the landlord to insulate and replace the crap boiler he'd probably put the rent up to an even more extortionate amount! This is why UKGov needs to do something about a getting minimum standard of efficiency in rented accommodation. Been looking to buy our own place for a few months now, but hasn't been much coming to market. Cheers, Steve
  23. Had the gas bill today.... £793 for 3 months. Can't afford it anymore The boiler is turned off now and the fire is lit, but that only heats one room. We rent the house and it has an old non-condensing boiler, virtually no loft insulation and single glazing upstairs. Our money/ energy is pouring outside into the environment & the government aren't making landlords upgrade THEIR houses to even a half decent standard. We pay the price
  24. Looks like a useful paint for all sorts of applications - only thing is that it looks like it needs to be sprayed via a Line-X dealer. Could only find a dealer in North Devon.... fine if you happen to live in North Devon! Cheers, steve LINE-X Sprayon Bedliners, Protective Coatings, Truck Bed Coating, Floor Coating, Industrial Flooring
  25. Don't get that problem with an Austrian Scythe, or the noise, or the fumes. Cheers, Steve
