  1. We've been looking at brushcutters and it's surprising how heavy they are, and expensive. Now gone off the idea of getting a brushcutter..... We already have an austrian scythe (which is very good on fuel). Now looking at chickens & ducks instead of petrol. (Not joking, an honest comment).
  2. Ah of course. That's something I failed to do. Doh! Maybe that will help? Cheers
  3. Is there a half throttle setting on the 550XP? News to me!.... how does that work? Cheers, steve
  4. The choke is either on or off on mine, no half way setting. But yeah, I have a few things to try out.... a) choke b) release tank pressure c) pull, pull, pull & keep pulling until it starts d) give up!.... send it back! I'm starting to wonder if Husqvarna have failed to test these modern auto-tune saws in a real-world working environment? (not that I'm averse to new technology). Cheers, Steve
  5. For a professional "XP" saw sounds like bit of a faff! I was working in the north side of the woods/ in shade all morning.... not looking forwards to using the 550 when we get some proper summer heat!
  6. Ah!....that reminds me!!.... when it was hot and I undone the flip cap (to refuel) it did release quite a bit of pressure, with a *PHISH* sound. Could that be it?!.... bit of a pain if I need to release the tank pressure every time on a hot start though!! Cheers, steve
  7. I did wonder about trying the choke the second time it happened but didn't. If (when) it happens again I may try that. Cheers, steve
  8. woops... meant to say 550xpg in title, not 559xpg!
  9. Has been hot today, not mega hot, just hot.... was chainsawing all morning with our Husqvarna 550xpg a) Went through first tank of fuel no problem b) topped up with fuel (wasn't completely empty) c) topped up with fuel again (wasn't completely empty) e) felled a few more trees, nothing massive, saw felt hot after that but nothing unusual f) switched the saw off to tidy up the work area (about 10 minutes) g) saw didn't want to start again h) pulled & pulled for ages I) eventually got it started j) cut another tree down, saw was hot again, but nothing unusual k) turned saw off & tidied up l) pulled for ages again! ....& eventually started Is anybody else having hot weather starting problems with the 550xp (or XPG)? Mines been fine before this morning so wondering if it's a hot weather issue? (550xpg is 2013) Cheers, Steve
  10. Good summary there Gary. Cheers, Steve
  11. Attach a bunch of helium balloons to the mini-digger cab?
  12. We're looking at being off grid, mostly via solar panels so the Husky batteries would be charged by that. It'd be mad to run a truck just for charging the batteries - that would defeat the whole object of having battery equipment in the first place! I think multiple batteries are needed - we could probably get by with two (perhaps), but ideally at least three or more.... and this us where the problem is: 3x batteries + charger = £560 ish
  13. That's my best hope!
  14. Funny, I completely forgot about that smell until you mentioned it... you're right, that is an amazing smell.
  15. Yes, please let me know too!
  16. Don't tempt me! (but I would say yes if they included a free battery & charger).
  17. Oh, I'm interested again!
  18. That's put me off!
  19. Yes, I guess the thorns are a bit of a downside, but not impossible to live with.
  20. I just posted a thread on the pricing issues. I reckon there's lots of people wanting to get into the battery tools, but the initial outlay seems very high, too high! Cheers, steve
  21. I find myself continually wanting to get into the battery powered tools that Husqvarna have to offer but the pricing of the batteries is seriously putting me off. eg, the strimmer body is being sold at a fair price, and so is the chainsaw body, but adding on a couple of batteries (for a couple hours run time) + a fast charger makes it a very expensive bit of kit..... pushing it into the unaffordable category. .....it's not the technology that's the problem; it's the price tag. Anyone here feel the same? Cheers, Steve eg; 1x 4.2AH battery is about £160 inc vat 1x 330w charger is about £84 inc vat Total (2 batteries + charger) = over £400 That's a spend of over £400 before having something to plug them into!
  22. Yes, I read that as well. Cheers.
  23. We've planted a small seed bed of Robinia pseudoacacia as it's a good nitrogen fixer and is very durable. It's thought to be a good replacement/ alternative to Sweet Chestnut. Question: Would it also be a good alternative to Western Red Cedar?....as a durable building material (for exterior cladding, etc). Cheers, Steve Robinia pseudoacacia - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
  24. It's a drive. Leave it as it is and drive over it. The bugs will thank you for that.
