  1. Well I'm not expecting Glastir to cover all the tree surgery day rates, so I'd like to trade peas to cover the extra amount, and if you work really hard may include a bag of spinach.
  2. Any suggestions for lightweight & breathable work trousers for hot days? I've been wearing hiking trousers but they tend to get easily ripped.
  3. Under Glastir Advanced they have offered some financial support to get some tree surgery done so will be interesting to find out their rates & terms, eg; They pay per day.... but how long is a day?! Will post back here as soon as we find out. Thankyou to everyone for giving guideline prices, is very helpful.
  4. Just to take off various branches to make the area safe. I think two people would be enough, or maybe one surgeon plus me?..... Looking for day rates rather than piece work. Cheers
  5. Hi, what is the average day rate for tree surgery? Trying to work out a budget to get a bunch of trees sorted. Cheers, Steve
  6. hmmmm and errr, best get yourself a proper fuel can!
  7. We haven't signed it yet, we're still working it all out & trying to keep it all on track (with the things we want to do anyway). It's too easy to get distracted into ticking other peoples boxes. I'm hoping the Glastir Advanced will be of more benefit. Good point about the weather..... we were just chatting about that very subject. Some of our areas are too wet to be clearing scrub in the winter, yet they haven't suggested helping out with water management as first priority (despite us pointing this out to them). Not to bothered about getting tied in with jobs to do, so long as we're sure we can do them on time. Must say I think the rates they pay are pretty pathetic really. Cheers, steve
  8. Bumping this thread again to find out how it's going. We're wondering how the squirrel trapping works in the scheme? ie, Are we expected to use a certain type of trap? Where do we place them? etc, etc Not exactly had much helpful management advice from the scheme yet! Probably due to lack of staff. Gah!!
  9. So no more McBurgers then
  10. Is there any way to tell if our saws need the hot start kit fitting?... by serial number perhaps? Mines a 2013 550xpg and also gets a pressurised tank in hot weather. Also, what do you mean by constant software updates? Cheers, steve
  11. I still think it's very expensive. But continuing with the positive outlook on a lot of the comments in this thread; I'm still very happy to do as much work as possible with hand tools.... it's much healthier than burning Aspen! Haha! cheers, steve
  12. Can anyone point me to anyone that sells Humbaur trailers in the UK? (preferably no further East than Bristol). Cheers
  13. I think a lot more people would buy it if it was about twice the normal pump price,ie: For 25 litres: standard forecourt price @£1.30 litre = total £32.50 Aspen dealer price @£3.78 litre = total £94.50 At the moment Aspen is nearly 3 times more expensive (when ordered in smaller quantities), that's pretty steep by my estimation. Cheers, steve
  14. A 20 or 25 litre drum would be good for me if it's cheaper. We only use relatively small quantities of petrol. How should petrol be stored? I currently just pop my Husky combi can in the garage, on the concrete floor, that holds a maximum of 5 litres. Ideally I'd rather store it in a shed but unsure about fumes, fire risk?? Cheers, Steve
  15. The petition count is at 282 today.... that's 10 more signatures in 24 hours. 9,718 more signatures are required. At the current rate it would take 972 days to reach the target.... (2.66 years). *yawn*
  16. Only 272 people have signed the Aspen petition....I've added my name to it but at this rate it'd probably take at least 10 years to reach 10,000 signatures. https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/government-uk-abolish-road-fuel-duty-on-garden-power-tool-specific-alkylate-petrols-designed-to-protect-users-from-harmful-emissions?recruiter=92753060&utm_campaign=mailto_link&utm_medium=email&utm_source=share_petition
  17. Body shop hemp hand cream smells nice & works well for me.
  18. Scythe has got that covered as well; a trimming snath & blade is specifically for cutting around trees & along narrow paths, and can also cut around bee hives (without noise or pollution). But no good for mulching For acres of meadow a tractor pulling a mower works well, and so do Jersey cows!
  19. Thanks Eddie. I'll have a chat with our nearest dealer.
  20. Cheers ....trouble is our nearest dealer is 25 miles away. Can it be bought online? But what with it being petrol I guess safe delivery may be a bit of an issue.
  21. Great! Where is a good place to buy it? Cheers, steve
  22. Great thread, and know the headache feeling, and the fumes feel like they line the back of throat. Does Aspen come with the 2 stroke oil pre-mixed? ....reason I ask is that I have just under 5 litres of 2 stroke oil to use up! Cheers, steve
  23. They are amazing tools mate. I got my scythe kit from Simon Fairlie in Dorset & he gave me a run through the whole setup, so much that I haven't bothered doing a course. Worth checking out some of the youtube videos as well. All my grass cutting has been with a ditch blade so far, but going to order a grass blade which is thinner & longer than the ditch blade so should save effort. Austrian Scythes for sale.
  24. So am I... chickens, ducks, pigs & goats could all be contractors tools. But seriously now; the Honda 4 strokes look good, in my opinion. Less noise, less fuel, less vibration.... bit more weight but you'd have a harness anyway.
