    2014 550 xpg

Been using my 550xpg today - has been starting on first or second pull. Very happy with it and glad I didn't get the 560xpg (which was a serious consideration). Cheers, Steve
  6. Ah, okay.... Steve is after a six pack. I get it now!
  7. Haha! That's quite a....errr, posh hippy curriculum vitae!! Still, woteva, don't make me wanna use chemicals, innit.
  8. Always wanted to be a road gritter! **drooling**
  9. In a nutshell, what is a Paleo diet and what is the purpose of being on one? Cheers, Steve
  10. I've read a few mentions of applying god knows what chemicals to trees, etc from members on arbtalk and thought I'd post this link.... (a French research into the toxic levels of the chemical things you may have been using). I'm no expert in these chemicals.... we don't use any of this toxic stuff. Cheers, Beehugger Steve Have a read or glance.... thoughts? Garden & Farm Fungicides, Herbicides & Pesticides Far More Toxic Than Originally Thought | Permaculture Magazine
  11. Just had a check with my feather edge and it's too narrow (at 4") to do what I'm wanting.... but here's a couple of rubbish quality photos to show what I'm thinking: A 6" wide beam would mean I could run the right hand v-guide on the outside of the Alaskan (vertical) mini mill without interference. The Alaskan (horizontal) Small Log Mill would run along both of the v-guides so it's not tilted. Simple but cunning eh!?...
  12. Nice idea. I imagine there would be a bit more wiggling (leaving a slightly wigglier finish) compared to the standard v-shaped guides supplied with the Alaskan (vertical) mini mill. I've half thought about fixing the 2ft v-guides straight onto both runs of a ladder/ or an aluminium rectangular box section may work better (about 6" wide by 1" deep). Good to see the various solutions cheers, Steve

?...another thread that isn't arb related. Haha! Wonder where this one will end up!....
  15. Looks like a good and simple way of fixing, simple is good! Is it best to mill the top of the log first, and then do the sides? Cheers, Steve
  16. Thanks Morten, that's helpful to see those photos. How are you attaching the mini mill guide (your laminated plank) to the log? I like the way you've bracketed the ladder so that it can be screwed into the end. Cheers, Steve
  17. Have you got the 5105? I'm sure I'll get a Dolmar one day.... perhaps a much bigger saw than the 5105, a Dolmar suited for sorting out the big trees and Alaskan milling Cheers, Steve
  18. Quite a few years ago now.... I was in a factory placing thousands & thousands of mini cookies into little plastic pots running along a conveyor belt - trifles destined for a certain large Supermarket.... the guy to the left of me (who was pumping cream) got sacked for telling jokes. The guy to the right of me (who inserted a little round sponge) was an ex bank manager (he was a very nice & humble guy) and couldn't get a job (he was too old). The head gasket blew on my car before xmas and all that work became pointless! Motto: Pointless jobs are sometimes pointless; follow your heart....
  19. May have a go at that.... What's the maximum depth I need to keep in mind for the screws (before the chainsaw cuts into them).
  20. I think I understand what you're saying Rob - to down cut the side and top of the log with the same guide rail, if that's what you mean? I thought about that earlier today.
  21. Do you use spacers/ wedges underneath the cutting side of the plank to keep it ridged? Cheers, Steve
  22. Hey TCD. Are you importing those now? I couldn't wait any longer to get a Dolmar 5105 (which looks like an ace saw) so I went for a husky 550xpg. Cheers, Steve
  23. It's good to Arbtalk.
  24. Cheers Bob, I've been thinking of getting another 6ft section of aluminium feather edge so could do the leap frogging with that as well. Is there a reason people use wood for the runner instead of aluminium? (I've not done any milling yet so this is all new to me). Cheers, Steve
