  1. I haven't intentionally planted trees (no space yet - but hopefully soon), but I do get a lot of ash saplings, plum suckers and goat willow saplings in my small back garden and odd plant pots. I pass a few of these on to friends etc. and when I move somewhere with more space I'll take them with me and plant them out. If I can't find somewhere suitable with a bit of woodland already, I'll plant some - though I'd prefer the former as trees grow rather slowly... Good thread. <thumbsup>
  2. If you do go for a lawn tractor / ride on mower type thing, I understand you can weld / jam the rear diff. That way if you get one drive wheel off the ground, it won't just spin uselessly but will carry on until both wheels touch again. Might make it harder to steer though!
  3. I've got a Jimny, and hope one day to get a woodland, so will follow this with interest. The max weight you can tow (unbraked trailer) behind a Jimny is 350kg if I remember right. 1300kg braked trailer. The Jimny is not super powerful, but it does get the job done. I normally drive it on my own, but when I load up with 4 people on occasion (at least two of them fairly porky!) I didn't notice the difference. Can't speak for a half ton trailer load as I've never tried that - but I think the Jim may surprise you...
  4. You need to paint some Thomas the tank engine eyes on that!! Interesting design - for some reason I thought it would be a ring kiln design.looks good. How much wood does the central chamber hold?
  5. Nice. Is that in the meadow down by the Portway? Looks a bit familiar, but not quite! Cheers.
  6. Live traps then shooting?
  7. Is it juvenile that I chuckled at Slag-craft?!
  8. Driftwood?
  9. Thanks all. I'll go with "probably hawthorn" then!
  10. Could be a cockspur - though it seems tall for one. It's also not in great shape (thin / weak foliage and heavy dead ivy infestation) so it might be saving its energy for things other than thorns...
  11. Cheers gents. That was my first thought due to leaf shape, but it doesn't have any thorns, and it's quite a big tree - 15-20m high. I suppose hawthorn doesn't have to be thorny, and can grow into a decent size tree if not in a hedgerow and left alone?
  12. Trying out a tree ID key, and it comes up with turkey oak which I don't think is right. Anyone know what this is? (The foreground twig, leaf and berries(?), not the big trees in the background) Thanks.
  13. Randomly, that boiler place is quite close to me and I was there a week or so ago to go to the restaurant. Wish I'd known they had a boiler shop too, I'd have had a look! Looks a good range of boilers to me, though I don't know much about them. Be interested if you get one from there in spec, price, consumption etc. Looks tempting!
  14. Looks like the plum tree in my garden! Couldn't tell you the Latin name though...
  15. Did you see the spiders in the trees during the floods in Pakistan a while back?
  16. I had cars broken into a couple of times, and reported it both times. The first time, the police sent out a crime scene team, but didn't tell me they were doing so so I wasn't there. They didn't want to reschedule it. Then they asked me if the neighbours had seen anything or anyone nearby had CCTV. I thought that was their job? Then they sent me a letter asking if I needed counselling! I wasn't overly impressed - didn't see what they really could do tbh, but I would have expected them to at least try, ask a few questions etc. The second time, more recently, they didn't send anyone out, but a local bobby did actually ask some questions around the village and give me a ring to update me - they'd not found anything. But at least they tried and updated me this time, so I suppose that's better.
  17. An interesting read, and nice pics Marko - thanks.
  18. Ad's been taken down, so maybe they've found someone!
  19. Surely it is? The resulting tree will be genetically identical to the parent plant, i.e. a clone?
  20. Thanks chaps. An online Id key suggested robinia, but that doesn't look right. Think pyracanthus looks most likely. Will check when flowers / berries come out. Goaty, there's a pic in the first post... Tried to paste the link in again, but phone says no!
  21. Hi all Got this growing in my garden. Spiky beast, grows fast and burns very well when dry. Is it Robinia pseudoacia? Or any other offers? Thank you.
  22. Ahh, OK - never been there as far as I know! Nice work. Good to see the old skills (and old mills!) being maintained.
  23. Where will the hot tub go?!
  24. Is that on the Norfolk Broads? Looks familiar somehow...
