  1. Ahh, right. Yes, that seems a better price for a shed install! Plenty of wind for it tonight.
  2. I was talking about the ampair 600 you linked earlier, not a generator. I'm guessing that that would cost a couple of thousand?
  3. I'm guessing one of those turbines would cost a fair bit? Do look quite useful though...
  4. What's the calorific content of a dead mouse?! Better weight for weight than softwood / hardwood?!
  5. Mine weren't treated - plain wood. (Possibly pressure treated) I wouldn't burn treated wood. And unfortunately, I don't work with trees!
  6. I've burned a few. I was told to be careful as they contain high levels of tars - possibly due to the pressure treatment? Seemed fine to me though, and chimney was no dirtier than usual. (I did mix them with other wood, not just roof timbers - also mine were a good age).
  7. Can't help you specifically - but at a much smaller scale I messed around with solar powered Christmas lights. I concluded that you don't get much power from a single solar panel, especially in winter. (E.g. a day's weak winter sun would get 15 minutes or so of light from a 3m string of LED bulbs - from a 10cm square ish solar panel). The same panel in full sun in summer would give an hour or two of light. So I imagine you'll need a good area of (more modern) solar panels and a hefty battery. And maybe to top the battery up from the mains every so often? This chap set up a more serious solar panel install for his house - might help you with panel area, wattage, amp hours etc.: Peplers In Rye: Eco-refurbishment - installing off-grid solar PV (part 2)
  8. Looks fun! I always had a hankering for the Ariel Atom - either the V8, or even the original 2.0 litre version...
  9. Would be typical if it did - just because my Jimny's been written off!
  10. That gives me a fractionally smaller area than the map developers one. But I find the map developers one easier to use as you can search by postcode!
  11. Perhaps! I used it to check the area of a field I was thinking of buying, and it exactly agreed with the estate agent's particulars... 5 acres on how big a woodland?
  12. Easy way to double your land area! I find it hard to estimate land area, so I use this: Area calculator - Outline a property on a google map and find its area
  13. Cheers Ww, I've got in touch with chippy too.
  14. Thanks Rover, I'll get in touch.
  15. Hi all. I'm toying with the idea of getting a wooden turned fountain pen. Seen a few online, but thought I'd see what people on here can make? Preferably in a pretty native wood - walnut perhaps? I'd like to see pics and prices for any that people have made. Can only cartridge fountain pens be made, or are the ones with a built in ink reservoir and suction device to fill it via the nib also possible? Many thanks.
  16. Lovely work. How long did they take to make?
  17. Again, can I ask what the rough total cost was please? Trying to compare the cost of a commercial install with a domestic install...
  18. And some quite interesting videos too. Having said that, woods4sale seems to have better prices. Or at least it used to - I think they've been creeping up recently.
  19. They're good at SEO and marketing too, plus have an interesting blog and things on their site. They were the first site I found when I started looking for a woodland, and they do good clear particulars too.
  20. Does a domestic install come in at under 26,000?! How do you find it?
  21. Thanks ES. Sounds quite expensive to me, but then I'd be thinking of a small domestic system, not commercial.
  22. I'm just round the corner from wraxall - we considered getting married in the battleaxes! If you need somewhere local to get rid of wood (conifers included) rather than dragging it back to Dorset please think of me! (For my personal wood burner use only - worth a try!)
  23. Eco Angus are based down near me, and I was vaguely thinking about getting one in future. Good to know they do a good job. Can I ask which model you've got, and what the total installed cost was? (PM me if you'd rather). Cheers.
  24. Can't help you personally I'm afraid. But you could try putting this post in the chainsaw forum too... Chainsaws - Arbtalk.co.uk | Discussion Forum for Arborists
