  1. on my 3rd pair in 3 years, first pair lasted me ages and with only minimum repairing to split crotches, before a 372 to the upper leg killed them, the second pair was worn with a belt at all times but completely split at the crotch to a point I had to wear a pair of black shorts underneath even after sewn up by mother several times!, been on my 3rd pair since Christmas, as they are good value, keep the water out really well, lightweight etc just wish they wernt so easy to split!
  2. work cancelled tomorrow due to high winds.... just as well as landy broken so would have had to of driven the zetor to work!
  3. You could sell it to me for 3.5k and give yourself a pat on the back knowing you've just helped the next generation of budding tree monkeys buy their first chipper?! No? Ok, I know where the door is!
  4. a rare day off, and after spending yesterday chasing fallen trees around Plymouth, after finishing the job... quite glad of a days rest before the forecasted storms tomorrow!
  5. my first arb truck! had it for 2 months and does everything I need it for (hopefully!)
  6. I see what your saying and see your point if view obviously, but all I'm saying is that as I'm only 21, I've had people in the past pass jobs to other people as when I went to quote they thought I was too young etc, so by sticking a sticker on the side, all be it a nptc one, hopefully it will make me stick out from the have a go heros as a proper tree surgeon and someone that can obviously be trusted etc, as I start my own business up, cheers
  7. Do a bit of shooting when I can around the farm, until I started working weekends I used to go out on a Saturday with the Dartmoor on whatever horse I could borrow, still do if I'm free and the weathers dry!
  8. Hi all, In the process of getting my first truck sign written, and so have asked city and guilds if I had permission to use their logo etc etc, sent off a photograph of my certificates etc. They reply saying thank you for wishing to acknowledge your achievement and attached a 'city and guilds level 2 qualified' logo. Is this as I only have up to my cs39 at the mo? I'm not cheeky enough nor do I wish to go against the rules and simply use the standard NPTC Qualified stickers that you see around, but would a potential customer look at the fact that I was 'level 2 qualified' and wander to themselves why I wasn't qualified higher or anything? What are your thoughts? Cheers, Ben.
  9. Started off at 7am with a Lawson's in the road, then ventured into Plymouth, 6 trees later and I'm home!
  10. Sorting out a fallen pine across a remote village lane at first light, customer preferred I wait until morning, sat in the mobile home hoping I don't blow away before then!
  11. slight update, was scanning through ebay and came across a 110 tipper for sale from a company I have done a few days work for in the past, long story short im now the proud owner of my first arb truck, a tipping landy with chip box, tool storage and winch! pretty chuffed, been saving up ever since I applied for my college course!
  12. Thanks everyone, I think I'm pushing towards double cab and then taking the seats outof it in the back, maybe not straight away but it could be an option, that way you could even store rakes, forks etc as well as everything else you may need for a days work. Some people will think that's stupid but I will have to make do until I can maybe afford desperate vehicles for work and social hours. Cheers
  13. hmmm been having a look at extra cabs and they seem to only be available in the very newer hilux version whilst I can only afford around the 2002-2005 version. And if that is the case gensetsteve than it looks like I shall be looking into a double cab hilux! I quite like the price of a double cab ranger and the're are quite a few of them around here but everyone says a hilux is what I need!cheers
  14. ahh good point, thanks. Thought about them in the past but they seemed to be quite rare around this area so gave up looking, will have another look around, cheers
  15. Before I start, I apologise as this has probably been said 1000 times before but I couldn't find anything specific to my circumstances. I'm looking in to my first truck (only 20) so need something I can use for both work and personal use hence a pick up truck. My question is... which do people prefer, a double cab and the instant ability to be able to store kit away in the back seats securely and live with the loss of space or..... buy a single cab pickup with more space in the back and then have to weld up some sort of a box in the back so that you can still get to the tools if the truck is full with chip etc? a bit like this Also..... I'm based near Plymouth and currently on the market there is a 11 yr old double cab hilux with 97,000 miles at Bristol for £4,995 or a 55 plate double cab ford ranger on 130,000 miles for £3,500 in Exeter.... is that a good deal and or which one shall I go for?! cheers
  16. Abbeygardens in Tavistock were also broken into on the weekend, south devon was hit hard by the look of it
  17. hardly no wind at all an hour ago, but strong gusts here now just east of Plymouth, I think this could be it!
  18. Like spoonz said above, whilst I was at college I was on £40 a day, been working for him for 2 years now as a climber and I've just gone up to £60 a day this week! I think your offer was very reasonable! It's not a fortune but to me I know it's guaranteed £60 a day 5 days a week compared to others who charge. £100 a day and may only get 1 or 2 days work a week. Cheers, ben
  19. Hi all, Just to try and raise some awareness about myself, I am a self employed climber/groundsman from Ivybridge and am available to help out anyone that needs an extra pair of hands with something! I have my CS30,31,38,39 chipper, first aid and L3 diploma in forestry and arb, as well as ppe, climbing kit, rigging kit, transport and insurance. Have worked as a climber for a local bloke for the past 2 years but its time to move on to hopefully bigger and better things shall we say! Thanks for the time, Ben.
  20. I find the 150T ideal for stripping conifers etc, and makes you wander how you ever used to manage lugging a 200t around a tree instead! When your groundy has stuck the 150 ground saw in the ground and you pick it up to quickly cut something, that's a completely different story, there's nothing worse!
  21. ahh I see, my cousin had his car broken in to and had his pilots bag containing Gps, varios, radios etc all taken whilst at the festival, hence my confusion!
  22. [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTxR9mJVMko]Cypress dismantles Devon HD - YouTube[/ame] take out 7 fair sized conifers, with the aid of a merlo to shift the larger timber and grab to move brash down to chipping area. As I've said before I have only been climbing for the last 18 ,months so any tips or anything that you can see me doing wrong don't hesitate to help me! Cheers, Ben
