  1. Hi all, I need a big saw, I have a 372xp on a 20inch, MS460 on a 25 inch, and a 181 on a 28 inch, but as you can see, I need a saw with a bit more grunt to take a bigger bar. I want something to run primarily a 36inch bar for the bigger bits of timber, so although a 395 will do that, is it worth shelling out that bit more and getting a 3120? Having said that, I do a bit of work for someone who only has a 660 as their biggest saw and bugger me haven't we cut some big wood with it, and it does them fine, but then others use an 880 and it gets the job done that bit quicker. I don't want to buy the 395 and be wishing I had gone bigger, and likewise would hate to buy a 3120 and think im an idiot for buying something so big. I'm only 21 and with limited funds from what I have saved up through work, so want a good investment that will do me well. what would you do, with your experience and business? Cheers
  2. Ahhh it was you making a mess if the road haha
  3. Ahh, brownston? That's where this Beech is! I heard what I thought was a band saw going through the day, if that was you? Will definitely look into him throughout the week! Thanks
  4. Brilliant, cheers all. And no not really, barbed wire and nails were everywhere below that
  5. Sorry, Pl21 area, ten minutes out if modbury or 15 minutes out if kingsbridge. Cheers
  6. Hi all, I have a massive beech butt on te ground, measured it and is about 9ft across by 5ft, by about 8ft long roughly? Customer is wanting it milled which is ideal as is a lovely bit of wood, but the tree was absolutely riddled and the crown was completely dead, customer wasn't happy with leaving it to decline at it's own rate. If anyone can help or knows of anybody I could try than that would be awesome, as he was on about logging it Cheers all
  7. That's what someone at work thought also, and gave me a dead arm for being so stupid! The guy is goin to repair it and just charge price of the parts, I will put a smaller bar on it and bite the bullet and buy either a 661 or 395. Just a good job it's October and not December!
  8. Hi all, Got somebody wanting to buy about 5 builders bags Worth of chip, how muh is the going price? First time I've sold chip so don't want to undercut myself if there's a couple qui to be earnt, needs to be delivered about 15 minutes from the yard and were based in devon if that makes difference to prices. Cheers
  9. Cheers Paul, definitely worth a try, I'm all too good at accidentaly saying te wrong thing and offending people! He hasn't said specifically, but he believes that all saws should be run on 30:1 to give it that extra but if help, and has said in the past he believes my saw would still be running in the firs place had I been running it on more than a 50:1 ratio. He mentioned repairing it and running it on 15:1 if I wanted to use the 28 inch bar in oak etc, not entirely sure though! Cheers
  10. I would imagine Chinese parts, charged £140 for all parts and labour to put the new piston in. Only warmed the saw up gradually and did one cut in a big bit of oak and that was it! He's a good bloke and fixed my 200t after it got completely smashed, but I can't help think it's his error. He is saying a way to possibly fix it is to alter the fuel mix etc. I know the very basics but after that I am lost when it comes to engines. Not sure whether to have it repaired elsewhere or give him the chance to fix what I believe is his mistake?
  11. Piston went in my 181, replaced at a cost if £140, then was having carb problems so all new diaphragms and rebuilt carb came to £60, saw was running lovely, warmed up through some small logs, bigger logs thn cut through a bit of oak with the whole 28 inch bar on and it conked out, my guy has stripped it down and it has seized te piston ring into te cylinder on the exhaust side, the guy is recommending I repair it but put a smaller bar on it, but 28 inches is fine on an 81cc saw unless ex has fitted the wrong size piston? May I add he does a lot if saws but more domestic and this is the biggest saw that he has worked on. I'm in two minds to chuck it and buy a new 90cc saw say a 661 etc or pay another £140 and try my luck? What would you do? This post is probably difficult I read but it has been a long week! Cheers
  12. Evening all, Another tree company, who are bigger and more established than I am (based 40 mins away) wrote a letter to me today with a poster and card attached, beginning with dear sir, I am writing to introduce ourselves for your consideration. Followed on by listing their services, what they offer, free quotes, how many years they've been running, who they do contracts for etc, all of which was quite interesting and they had a really nice website to look at etc. My only question, why? Is this a way of letting me know who they are, are they looking for me to give them work if I'm in 'their' area etc, or is it so I have someone to turn to if a job is beyond me at this stage. I was going to email them but thought I would ask first incase this is quite a standard thing that I just haven't encountered yet. Cheers!
  13. Thanks guys, personally I wouldn't know what it was in their, I'm just going off his instructions! So without digging further, it's hard to tell at the mo whether it coul take a bigger bar or whether 28 inch is where I should keep it? Cheers
  14. Hi all, Just had my 181 repaired, and the bloke put a slightly bigger piston in it to make it now an 85cc saw. The saw is only used for bigger fells and cross cutting the larger bits I wood that I get, What's the biggest bar you would put on it? I'm wanting as big as poss without abusing the poor girl, currently got a 28inch on her. Cheers
  15. It's going to make me sound silly, but I took the cover off, unscrewed the little sensor thing which is a cigarette paper away from some sort of wheel, scratched a bit of crud off it, screwed it back on and low and behold it now works! Happy, yet a bit miffed that I bought it as fully serviced off of a TW dealer and it's never worked since I've had I until now! Ah well
  16. Having only ever used machines before that had anti stress in a working order, I was just concerned that I was feeding too much through and as a result of that, the flywheel was getting caked in crud, as you can see on the bottom of the blades etc. Just checking, and thanks for the answer!
  17. Brilliant, will take a look either tonight or this weekend! Mountain man, It was a single roller when I bought it, it is incredibly frustrating when trying to feed gnarly Monterey or oak in, but if processed correctly she munches away quite happily! Cheers
  18. Hi all, my 125 has been modified to a single roller, and im guessig this is why the anti stress is ni longer working, ifs it possivle to fix this ir shall I just carry on manually stopping it on the larger bits. I was watching youtube videos and there machines all stop the infeed on bits of brush that I wouldnt concider the need to manually stop it on. Is the anti stress to orevent the engi e from stalli g or to orevent stress on things sich as bearings and bkades etc? Also, do you let your oetrol engines cool down after use? If so for how long? So, me people I kmow simply turm the machine off and others ket theirs cool down for ten minutes. sorry for spelling, Im srruggli g with my dads tablet! Cheers
  19. First time ive heard of it too, and I live there! Good luck with it for the future!
  20. Hi, I apologise yet again if this is already been answered or whether what I'm asking is not possible without 3 or 4 assessments and a grand or two or what have you. Spent the afternoon googling the shiz out of life but since its changed to from chapter 8 to 12a/b/c/d I am lost. I am a self employed guy doing my own thang, and have got by so far with just sticking out some home made tree cutting signs on the back lane etc where we have been working (I love in rural devon) I would like to buy the full chapter 8 road signs kit, but also go through the correct training so that I would be allowed to set it all out legitely for temporary work on lanes etc, B roads would be the busiest road (worst case scenario) whilst googling most of the things I found was for people working on motorways and A roads, and couldn't find anything for your average joe, jonny quick wannabe. what do I need to do to be able to put out my own signs for myself, and how much does it roughly cost? cheers boys, Ben
  21. Ahh yes that is a good point! Do you not find like said above, the tarp traps the air in and it all gets blown out the back again? Cheers
  22. Havent had time to look in to the black box for the towing hitch, looks like it could grind out easily on slopes? Our old trampoline disintegrated recently and so I pikied the bed off that and had a go this afternoon at creating mark 1 roof/lid/curtain thing, certainly worked just need to fine tune it a tad!
