  1. I found a skidster m10 withba Diesel engine on eBay for a steal, came with a whole range of fencing attachments, buckets, pallet forks, augers, cement mixers, log splitter, and then I bought the log grab from pons medda. awesome tool for what I paid, comes in to its own on clearance jobs shifting Timber.
  2. Thanks for the replies people! sorry, I should have probably been more clear, it isn’t mechanical issues that I am worried about, as generally they are quite reliable in that sense, but more the body work and chassis etc. You hear lots of dark stories from the forbidden side of the timberwolf world that we are all told to keep quiet about, so would be interesting to know what the actual figures are like. Sad thing is, for my business currently there is no machine that could beat the 230, so I would most likely just replace it with a new one. Do you pay an extra £600 a year for the warranty or do you keep it and be prepared to spend £600 on fixing a potential issue which could occur?
  3. Although a very valid point. But with the 230 you can stack up an entire days work of brash and chip it up in 20 minutes between the two of you, should space allow. I should also add that I like my days off work ?
  4. I currently have a 2 year old tw230 just coming out of warranty, machine is great and I have no complaints with mine, however, in people’s experiences is it best to upgrade when you can to a new machine with 3 more years warranty, or the cheaper option of sticking with what you have already got and crossing your fingers? chipper is on 200 hours so low but there is mixed reviews on the longevity of the 230 chassis etc due to cracks and what have you. Thanks
  5. I have the exact same trimmer rob, with the plastic blade guard still on. Head has got 3 large cracks in it and I only bought it 6 weeks ago. First crack appeared after 2 hours use. Going back to stihl.
  6. Can deliver a 10ft tipping ifor trailer amount for £85 if interested.
  7. We were working on the edge of Cardiff back in November, 2 men on a site clearance job, the rail boys were there felling a line of alders with 7 or 8 of them. Turn up at 9, fell a tree, chip it, take the bonnet off, look at the engine for an hour, sit in the van, fell an alder, chip it, sit in the van, go home at 2 or 3pm...
  8. Unless she has specifically asked you to do this (if so why couldn't she organise it herself) then this is seriously, seriously creepy!
  9. Cheers! Wasn't going to speedline it until I got up there and thought 'hangon', luckily we had an old pull rope which we could cut into short strops! At least know I have learnt that it is always a possibility and will save so much time on some jobs, and its not just a massive PITA! haha
  10. [ame] [/ame] Really nice job from earlier this week, all zipped out just to make everyone's life easier! 3rd job ive tried it on, and first time it has gone smoothly!
  11. If you cant find an avant, we have used a 4x4 rabbit mower with diff lock on various jobs and is incredible, same size as your average ride on lawn mower but obliterates gorse, brambles, buddleja etc pretty much anything that you drive over it with... and its fun!
  12. Use it as a place to get good experience, exactly like you said in your original post, just keep in mind though that there is a difference between the 'arborists' and the Sean HH of the world (he will give me a bollocking if he see's that haha) pick up good tips and tricks just remember the things that you probably shouldn't be doing. That said I have never done utility work.
  13. I went through Bicton Arb in 2011/13, quality of teachers is good however every single teacher is part time, offices are horrendous, took several months to book in each assessment and I wouldn't recommend, but without them I wouldn't be here in this job today. Mark Isted I learnt to appreciate... during my CS30, I was crosscutting a log whilst safely kneeling on one knee balanced (surely good for posture and saves on bending over/bad back), whilst cutting I saw him come out of the corner of my eye and actually push me over, to show 'how precarious I was'. However I went on to do the rest of my tickets with him with him assessing and he was a lot better, personality clash some would say.
  14. lovely area, but expect a lower pay, constant fighting for and undercutting for work, new companies sprouting up everywhere etc, or is this just a general description of the whole country?! on a serious note, mortenhampstead is a lovely area and apart from proarb just down the road im not too sure of anybody else operating in that area
  15. Ahh brilliant, cheers! I rarely post on arbtalk for fear of being on the recieving end of peoples 'constructive' opinions, but when I do I'm always suprised by the amout of effort that people will go to to help others!
  16. I think it was black which I took out, picked up a green one from timbertrail, I heard the different colour is for a disco or defender engine, but as it is a disco engine in a defender I wasn't too sure, should I switch it?
  17. The temperature gauge on my 300tdi started off with being tempermental, and then jus stoppe working altogether, I pulled the wire off from the sensor, earthed it and the gauge in the truck worked fine, so I've replaced the sensor but now after a mile or two the gauge in the truck rockets right up to way past the red, even though the engine seems fine, I'd rather it didn't work at all then tell lies and make me anxious the whole time that I'm driving it! Have ample coolant level as well. Where do I go now, replace the actual gauge in the truck? Cheers
  18. Jut as an update, the spring had gone in the reverse switch, so the switch was being triggered by vibrations, 5 new switches for good measure and it's working away quite happily again!
  19. stop bar isn't attached at the moment as I thought that it being bent was wobbling and knocking the switch on the hopper
  20. Hi all, I bent the hopper of my 125, and whenever I put some wood into the machine the rollers will stop, almost like the no stress is extremely sensitive. I thought the problem was having a slightly bent bar on the emergency stop bar but having taken that off completely, checked the hydraulic oil level, cleaned out the air filter on the engine and checked the sensor sat next to the fly wheel the rollers still stop as soon as you put a piece of wood into the machine. You can bypass it by lodging a stick into the green button on the switch board and then it does work fine. Another thing is that the rollers stop as well if you 'donk' the butt of the branch onto the central inner part of the hopper. Have rang the TW help line but as it is an early 2002 model they weren't really able to help, just said it could be that the engine isn't quite at max revs. any help much appreciated. thanks
  21. +1 roger young, company I sub to had a brand spanking defender delievered with tipper back.
  22. Hi all, Am looking for some work in South Devon, based near Kingsbridge, but willing to travel within reason. Part time/ subby work 4 years experience CS30, 31, 38, 39, First aid at work, range of saws, rigging kit, truck and chipper available. C.V available at request. Thanks for taking the time to read my ad. Ben
  23. I see your points and what you are saying, perhaps you are right and should wait and take on the bigger jobs as my business grows to meet them. I have a landy tipper and a 125 timberwolf for my normal work, going off the pictures it could maybe be done in a single transit load of chip, although I am coming off the idea of going for it now though haha Cheers
  24. Thanks for your advice and opinions, I realise the snags and negatives that come with working for a bigger corporation, until I speak to the gentleman later it is still very much a potential idea or even day dream. I didn't mean to sound rash, and I enjoy the perks of working for the small, local customers. No stress, in and out and cash handed to you whilst tidying up, as well as building good word of mouth recommendations and future work links. It is just I believe you have one chance, and should grab or at least consider any opportunities you get, as who knows what could happen. Cheers
