  1. Was the carb retuned to run a 13" bar? If not it could well have been over revving. Take the muffler off and have a look at the piston is my first suggestion.
  2. Early sprinters did have a rep for blowing injectors thru the bonnet remember. Also the glowplugs can give up the ghost earlier than most, the glowplug light will remain on on the dash constantly to show this and they aren't the easiest to change. This is throughout all the vito/sprinter models. To be fair I ran sprinters for the last 12 or so years but just gone and got a new transit simply down to the MPG. I found my last sprinter which was a 10 plate averaged out at 20mpg whereas the earlier old shape models where 30+ mpg, partly my fault as I wouldn't use the 6th gear as it was to overgeared and the slightest incline it lost its guts and you where down thru the gearbox in no time. Earlier models had more go in them.
  3. I was brought up on a farm in the middle of nowhere so to speak. The local village was several miles away etc so lived a bit of a billy no mates life out of school hours so from an early age of about 8 was stuck on a tractor and from about 11 given a 12 bore to go out and shoot. Best days of my life tho never felt it at the time, I wouldn't change it for the world. Was still in the days of the local beat bobby and the amount of times he saw me driving tractors on the road towing a trailer load of 200 small bales or 8 ton of grain barely old enough to reach the pedals.... He would just stick his hand up!! He would regularly pop in the farm for his "hideaway" for a cuppa and slice of homemade cake, even if no one was in! Oh how time has changed. As for the guns I found a hotspot once for rooks after silaging. They would come in landing on the phone line before pitching on the field. Was great fun shooting them off the line. That was until it rained a few days later and the villages phonelines started to play up and the fault was found to be lots of small holes in the lines insulation that let water in........kept my mouth shut on that one but father instantly knew and got a clip around the ear for should of known better
  4. Reliable but strangely thirstier qnd slower than earlier models so beware. Prob due to being slightly wider and higher than earlier models which also meant slightly less carry weight. My old one I had from new for 3 years/0-120k on the clock and never had any engine faults.
  5. No sorry cant say I do. Meteor give some measurements on there site which may help. I know they are swappable and useable in the hyway cylinder tho. I may have a spare new windowed piston from a hyway kit but your not overcoming your issue tho however
  6. Hmm was just thinking the stihl 064 piston fits as a direct swap but a tadge higher so you may want to fit base gasket and squish test before your confident it wont hit the top removing the base gasket or if you wanted to go make a pop up the 272xp as they are a fraction taller again.

  9. I would prefer to pull it the old fashioned way. However I guess its down to the amount that there is involved etc. Is the spray expensive?
  10. As Agg said on stihls. On some husvarnas etc its a crankcase strip or feed them in thru the oil tank which can be fiddly. They have a locating head that fits in the crankcase and aren't threaded. Knowing what saw would help?

To be honest mate I had it sitting around for so long with the intention of grabbing a load of old ones I have stashed down the farm (old batterys which have just lasted a bit longer doing electric fencers before dieing) but the missus had been harping on about it for ages I just got rid for a peaceful life whilst I was going down the recycle centre. I know what you mean tho.
  12. I would prob eat better than I do know lol. My dogs get a "human" roast on a sunday, get venison liver, heart and kidneys and offcuts aswell as rabbit supplemented with a bit of dry food rather than the other way around most days of the week. My diet would consist of 75% meat if I ate like them. Would prob sh*t once a week but have a marvellous coat/hair lol

Nice simple tip run or so I thought, but oh no "yeah mate the car battery goes over here" ..."the wood over in that skip" that metal in the container where you came in-the one without a sign on..."... "um that cool box im not sure let me go check" - felt like I done a mini marathon so no wander theres always a queue of traffic waiting to get in! What a bloody joke! Next time everything but metal will just go on the hedgelaying bonfires, so much easier and quicker

  16. Thanks guys. I just found it a bit out the ordinary for this area. No doubt very common in London tho!   17. Thanks will look it up. Bark was thin and spotty and looked like it almost sheds/peels/flakes off it if that's the right word hence the spotty appearance. If it is a plane then I wont feel the need to kick myself to hard as I wouldn't of known that.
  18. I sure this is an easy i.d for most but im first to hold my hand up and say im not that clued up on tree I,d. I drove past it and it just happened to catch my eye and just wandered what it was? Probably kick myself up my arse for not knowing it as ive seen a couple around but not that common in this area
  19. Theoretically speaking I guess no load on the strimmer engine would equate for a richer mixure equalling cooler running Barry which may extend running time before seizure? Its an interesting topic as like you say we all assume it would only be a short run time on neat fuel. Reminds me of an old guy I used to know that never used to mix his fuel so meticulously as most of us. He would have a full fuel can, unscrew the 2 stroke oil lid and just fill the lid up with oil and throw it in the can yet never seemed to have an issue with any seizures even tho it was prob nearer a mix of 80/1! I am talking 20 years ago so maybe machines wherent pushed to there limits tunability wise as today and fuel had less ethanol etc which may have helped.
  20. Lol ive still got a brand new 395 in box unused, ive only got around to porting the muffler not even fired up to check the carb tuning yet as was going to port it etc but the way its going that will take another 6 months lol
  21. Be interesting to see mate. I may have a box of 394 bits coming - most of the saw supposedly so im already tempted to rebuild it and work some magic into it
  22. Another one here for the 395. Like stubby I run .404 on 36" and 28/30" on 3/8 and no complaints on vibes. Tadge more power than the 660 and responds better to mods in my eyes to the 660. Also the oiler is much better. You never hear of shortage of oiling on the 395 whereas the 660 isn't uncommon. One day Jon we will catch up, we can put my 394 and 395 against your 660.

I believe none of the specials have ever had the oval intake just the earlier "original 365" Also they had zama carbs whereas the special had walbro altho a few early special models had the zama. The special using the walbro does use the same carb as the 372. As mentioned also the side tensioner and often forgotten was it also got the adjustable flow oil pump.
  25. Usually a bit of a gap and they don't touch. Its a buffer not a mounting. That will tig or even ally wire thru a mig at worse.
