  1. That was it chop shop. Was the white Volvo estate. Don't think there was a series as such spud but several double episodes etc Another was country house rescue or whatever it was but in the end he told them to f*ck off. Another program called "The F*cking fulfords" because every other word he uses is a swear word. Yet to be fair hes down to earth, fair and one of the nicest blokes you will ever meet yet quite happy to pinch my backy and make a rolly.....
  2. Sounds almost like a dodgy crank seal but seems strange if the saws is only 4 months old. So its the x-torq model? Certainly sounds like an airleak unless its something down the lines of the filter/fuel line in the fuel tank isn't quite in the right place and sucking air in with the fuel. Make sure when its on its side that the filter is fully submerged in fuel. It could be carb related but again 4 months old its unlikely.
  3. I would say give it a go with a nova or similar. Ive used them to replace 2 wire trigger systems ad they've always worked on stihls. You wont know until you try it and doubt anyone will be able to give you a straight forward yes/no answer. If its the trigger unit it should work, if its the coil it probably wont.
  4. Today ive been looking back over the many years ive been involved with my "local lord" so to speak (5000 acres) . Now ive known him for some 30 years being involved with the shoot and minor upkeep and being lucky enough to have free rein on most of the wind etc fallen trees despite it being forested. Ive been chuckling away to myself remembering things that have happened over the years where hes involved. Earliest memories where as a young teanager, Hugh Heffner's playboy team doing photoshoots there whilst on a shoot day.. Top bosses from the t.v "discovery" channel came in for some shoot days which opened up several t.v programs about him including" how clean is your house" with Kim and Aggie and a "shoot vehicle" being made in that program involving the indian guy and the Londoner which basically bodged cars together. Im sure someone will remember the name... In the programs fully admitting in one to losing his virginity to a prostitute and another throwing the kids tv in the lake because they watched it to much. Over the years ive been sent to look in the woods to look for his Purdey simply because hes propped it up against a tree whilst gas bagging to other guns and not remembered until at the next shoot wood his guns abscent! Opened a country store and was given a £250 shooting stick only to mislay it on the first shoot day and not miss it until weeks later which involved walking back over all the shoot woods for that particular day trying to find it. Managed to drive 400 motorway miles in 4 wheel drive only to have the gearbox blow up on the estate drive 1/2 mile from home and when queried said "well it was smelling a bit hot all the way there and back" I reckon I pick up 10 pruning hand saws a year he loses around the various woods each year when hes on his ivy missions hacking it off every tree he finds with some on. Im sure I pick up exactly the same ones in the same places the following year and hand back to him once again! Was once asked to be his chaffuer as he likes a tipple or 10 (in his younger years had a driving ban for it) and take him to an upper class ball. So him and the wife jump in the land cruiser and first thing I hear is his wife arguing with him about how his dinner suit has a moth eaten hole in the collar to which the reply "ive had this f*cking suit for 20 years and it will last me another 20.. now shut up woman!" of which just escalated over the 50 mile journey to the point i sunk in the seat, kept looking forward and kept quiet.. Anyway I could go on and on but you would all fall asleep So who else has similar storys as im sure im not the only one.
  5. N/s wheel nuts can possibly undo with momentum. o/s however wont because of the rotation of the wheel actual keeps them tight within reason.
  6. I fell asleep. It would've been easier and quicker to go the shop and buy a bit of timber..
  7. Yeah you sound much like me. I just replaced a screen on a sat nav lol. This weekend im replacing brakes on an old fiat tractor (brake bands)... talk about 1 extent to the other... That carb is the original, built to be used with the silly air filter choke. The butterfly you see is the throttle control butterfly and nothing that relates to a choke so the air filter choke needs to operate with the on/off/choke switch which you said wasn't happening as wasn't coming into contact with the lever? I don't know why they use this system on the 024/026/240/260 models as no other stihls use it. Just like the husky carbs they have a second butterfly and linkage on everything else within reason. The ipl is the same pretty much on all the 024/026/240/260 models. Ignore the woodboss as just a marketing gimmick the saw wasn't different than any other just like the farm boss. Carbs where changed a few times but main difference was some had 1 some had to mixture screws. Obviously piston/bore/stroke vary but everything else is the same except the pro models which had decomp valve and adjustable oil pump. For an ipl look here Eclatés Tronçonneuses thermiques
  8. I was thinking the same in regards of weight. Wouldn't want to be overreaching with that if it is for an 048! As Ray said ive only known them for the 024/026/ms240/ms260 saws.
  9. Not an 075 exhaust. Could it be off an 08?
  10. NOOOOO... I don't do being beaten. Ive spent many hours on things others have given up on where labour prices would far outway that of the saw. BUT it may sound strange but after a day at work I find it a kind of way of relaxing AFAIK they all use that choke set up and never seen 1 with a butterfly in the car or whatever. The air filter can fall apart inside. They can be taken apart and normally fixed tho. The lever just flips up a plug to restrict air into the carb. Should be able to check with the filter in your hand just push the lever and you will see the plug partly block the intake hole. Maybe that's a route worth quickly checking to make sure its working and not fallen apart. To be fair I had to change a carb on an 026 last week which sounds a similar problem, no fuel til I plugged the intake with my thumb to increase the vaccum pull on the fuel. I cleaned the carb 5-6 times, aswell as fitting a gasket/diaphragm kit, reset the needle in different positions, even ended up blowing it thru with an airline etc and still nothing yet when I swapped it for a good carb it ran fine. Im starting to have confidence in the cheap Chinese carbs for this sort of thing where the saw isn't worth a fortune. £13-14 for a new carb or £7-8 for a gasket kit not knowing if it will fix it..... I would rather pay the extra fiver and not worry about it.

Cut a 45 gallon drum in half lengthways and weld it end to end for a makeshift firepit or something it hasn't got to be highly technical. You don't want wood that flames up well, else you will just burn it up.

Over logs a full pig will take around 8-10 hours so make sure you give yourself plenty of time to prep and cook. Main thing is make sure its cooked fully and don't give ppl food poisoning.
  14. They are normally obvious so doesn't sound like that's your issue then. Im making the assumption you have checked that the choke is moving the lever on the air filter and its choking properly? The other obvious check is to take the exhaust off and check the pistons not scored up so compressions down? Just try one more thing for me. With the air filter off stick your thumb in the end of the carb so its fully choked and give it a few pulls. Make sure theres plenty of suction there and then check the plug to see if it got wet.
  15. Or possible tank breather? Does it restart after a few pulls once you've opened and reseated the fuel cap?
  16. Im still standing by the manifold being perished It does involve removing the carb and dropping the tank/handle to check which is a 10 minute job maybe 20 if your winging it a bit. Bar and chain off Remove air filter with a flat bladed screwdriver/scrench Small flathead to remove black part of handle to remove carb linkage rod Remove fuel pipe 10mm socket x 2 nuts to remove the carb-pull out circular insert and ring from end of manifold Remove the triangle rubber buffer mount by carb t27 screws x3 Under Clutch drum lever out the 2 white round plugs (front 1 should have the silly chain guard thing on in case of chain breaking) Then remove the 2 x t27 screws that live under them holding the tank in place. Slacken/remove front end handle bolt/s Should now be able to feed/push the inlet manifold thru the plastic handle along with impulse and remove handle to inspect the manifold properly aswell as the impulse. (impulse can be a pig to fit with handle in place unless you have forceps or similar)
  17. 1 1/4 I start at. If I remember correctly not even the husqy 142 manual list the settings but 1 1/4 isn't far off.
  18. Its not unusual for the drum to be coated with oil. Give it a good clean but it will reoccur in time. For the price of a bearing its certainly a good move to replace them before they get chance to fail. When the drum is off have a quick check of the brake band, they tend to be pretty troublefree tho, and when you reinstall the drum check its not binding anywhere. Hope that doesn't sound to patronising but it can be the simple things we all miss sometimes...
  19. x2 Brilliant knives that you can get a razor edge on yet don't cost a fortune. Being a wooden handle you can also drill a hole in the end and fit a lanyard.
  20. The fuel weeping could be from the cap or the tank breather which is on top the tank above the fuel cap (below the l/h/s of the air filter. You should grease the bearing especially if dry. Some are actually a plastic caged bearing and once dry will either melt or break up. Possibly the whirring noise is just the clutch making a minor contact with the drum or the drum outer just touching the brake band? I know what I would do next BUT WITH CAUTION AND BE SENSIBLE WITH SAFETY IN MIND and that would be to remove the cover, bar and chain and fire it up and see whats happening in there whilst its open and you can view it all working. When you rev it up you will see the clutch expand and gripping the drum then release the drum as the revs drop to tickover. Then try the chainbreak which is obviously the outer band around the drum. You should be able to pick up where that whirring is coming from.
  21. Great looking project up to now. That looks a reasonable weight pully to add to the rotational mass, most you see look a little "underweight" Be interesting to see how the gearing works out, not that im clued up on these engined screw splitters as only use a tractor mounted job .
  22. With the saw running on tickover hold it upright and then turn it and put it on both its sides and notice is the idle speed changes just to help indicate crank seal issues. The chain/sprocket side usually goes first so with that side facing upwards especially listen for the possibility of an engine note change.
  23. If the council are strimming the verges etc and a car window is broken they are liable. Therefore I would imagine the onus is on you but can only go by the above so I maybe wrong.
  24. Hmm so what have I been upto saw wise this week. Stihl 026 muffler mod and retune after fitting a later ms260 carb. Needed a bit if trimming in the airbox area as altho the carb is a straight swap the ms260 mixture screws foul the airbox area casing. Secondly a Husqvarna 325hs75 hedgetrimmer with a mullered drive in the gearbox. The bearing had exploded on the end on 1 of the conrods no doubt due to being pushed passed its limits cutting. Parts on order from Husqvarna Thirdly stripped/split crankcases on a Husqvarna 394. Ive hopefully bought what equates to "nearly" 2 394xp parts saws which are totally stripped right down so hoping I can rebuild a good one and have a few spare parts along the way. Hopefully I will do a ground up build from scratch, take pics etc and give it a thread on its own when the "box of bits" arrives....
  25. That's interesting. Never heard of that either. They charge well for those seals to. Simply bearings don't list a narrow enough one and the cheapest place ive found £8 a pair. Quite a common seal on the 2 +3 series Husqvarna larger saws.
