  1. Just had a look at their website/vids. And I notice they've taken out part of the easy Ford theft equation. Their company vehicles aren't Transits.
  2. B+C you know, plus sprocket and if it's just softwood. You could go to 8T from the std. 7T. I recently went from a Husky bar to a Sugi Hara light type, and while being a nice bar, is slightly more ovoid. So boring is a little slower. Then again, your main cutting is with a 560XP. Where mine is with a 545.
  3. Last doz. I've used over the years, have all been different but sadly all the same. Hardened teeth with too little offset. So the chaff isn't well cleared and it's impossible to sharpen them.
  4. I thought that the FC had recently brought in the rule, that if you are working on their land. You have to have had either: • training with assessment • refresher training within the last five years. Does the OP intend working on FC land?

    Quotes you like!

"He's a legend in his own lunchtime." "... and for those of you watching in black & white. The pink ball is next to the green" by Ed Lowe (For some reason, I usually remember it as,"... and for those of you watching in black & white. The red ball is behind the brown.")
  6. I'll PM you, as their website still lists named & photoed equipment, not found by the scum but stored in other places.
  7. Also 2cu. m ali box trailer - full of charcoal
  8. I know to some people, maps are some new fangled thing. Some mystic parchment, only the learned need understand. I think it wise that that particular housing ass', ensure in future, that if a map is supplied for works, there is at least one person that can actually read said map. On the humorous side - at least they won't get the local stay mutts peeing against their tree.
  9. Well I warned them and for 6ths., yes 6ths. they've had uninsured equipment out in the open and more recently, also in a container. This charitable group have proudly been advertising the presence of each new piece of equipment and heavily hinting where the equipment was - was being the operative word. I'd questioned if it was wise to openly advertise their presence and quantity of equipment. I was politely informed their sponsors wished to see the produce of their funding on the website. After the very recent thefts from Llanfoist and Govilon, which are but a few miles away. Since the introduction of 'Arbsafe', I've suggested they registered their stuff. After the nearby thefts, I again enquired if they'd arranged insurance & registered their equipment. I was told they'd had trouble getting insurance, due to the nature of the risk. I in turn supplied names of specialist companies & their websites and thought that would be sorted in a few days. That was 2-3 weeks ago. After all the warnings and supply of info on specialist insurers. I got this reply. "Thanks __________ and I do appreciate your concern. I guess it is about balancing fear against what might happen? Fear of theft is a real issue and there are lots of studies about this. My view is one of "Don't let them get to you!!" Could have used stronger language but won't on an email. Yes you are right every time we put something in the paper we are advertising our breadth of equipment and yes, it is vulnerable. We are looking at insurance at the moment as a matter of urgency and have taken precautions. We would have liked to take more something like a CCTV camera but not in our budget. Insurance costs are frightening too. I did have a look at https://www.arbsafe.co.uk/ and think it is a great idea but not yet had the time to go any further than that..." Well I tried and it's not my personal loss. But it still sucks and I feel sorry for the charity. It was fortunate, that some other equipment was stored elsewhere. They now have to source other funding, repair a new gate and repair a container. 10. Forecast was for a cessation of rain by now. But that is not the case and it's getting colder.
  11. Works for me. I can't stand football, so filling up Wembley Stadium seems like a good idea.
  12. Sometimes better.
  13. Slush on tarmac and white on the fells.
  14. A nice video. I think the iPhone is maybe a little sharper. And also has a little more contrast but not too much. But the GoPro handles differences to light intensity, (when the shot has a lot of backlight) better and slightly quicker. Now I can see that for the occasional vid, the iPhone 6 would be the answer. But considering how much data is stored on MPs these days. And the fact that it presumably would be your primary, (maybe only) MP. If it all went honey shaped, on the one hand you'd lose a camera. And the other, you'd lose a camera, your MP, a whole bunch of stills you'd taken that day, and maybe a whole lot more, plus your latest status symbol. And have you, (not the OP) seen the size of the '6. Thin it may be but it's the size of a small tablet. And the G4 is £279 all in. Whereas the i6 is at least £450 - £610 depending on the memory. Which one would you prefer to drop on the floor or out of a tree?
  15. I thought you bought one recently.
  16. Raining. So no need for waving hands, mystic runes, chanting and the rest.
  17. 25% Crikey! At that rate, you could make a packet serving nothing but tap water.

    Transit Thefts

Nice idea but what happens if they decide not to rundown the kids on the School Crossing? Back to drawing board.
  19. They're kids having fun. Let them play. Or are we now going to have a thread, with at least one person prescribing exactly when, where & how a child can play. I'll start it off. I think children should be seen and not heard. Unless they're on a farm among the sheep or cattle, in which case, they can be part of the herd. I also think that children, who's parents can't afford the full set of prescribed climb equipment, should be sent up chimneys as cheap sweeps; sent down the mine or into the mills at the age of six. Bob a Job week should be brought back but extended to every Saturday. So waifs can be put to a good days' labour after the homework's been done. Poly rope cannot be used by anyone for any reason, other than by a farmer or a member of their household. And only to secure a gate, when it can be proven in a court of law, that there was no old bale twine available at the time of securement. Children can only play computer games when sat properly in a good posture, on a suitably sized chair. Design specifically for either office work or playing computer games. And that they take a complete break from gaming every 15mins. There's far too high an instance of childhood obesity today. To combat this, it is to be made mandatory, that kids only be fed gruel on Saturday and sprouts on Sunday. With an added 100g portion of meat or fish every third Sunday. Harris Tweed can make a general comeback, as can the British textile industry. When it is decreed, that all kids up to the age of eight, must by law, only wear rough linen cloth and kilts. Except when working in mines, quarries or mills. When appropriate 19th century PPE is to be worn.
  20. I reckon the paying public have always wanted a job done at the cheapest price. In the past as now, there have always been some who could afford either the best or a higher quote. But more so now, there are many that have a tree/s but have little spare money. So going for a cheaper quote, will always be an option. The notion that educating the public, as to who is legally able to quote, still supposes, that the customer has the disposable income/savings to go for the higher certed quote. The general public know that they have a vote. But how many actually do vote... in 2010, about 67%. As to experience - it's like getting your first job after leaving school. You can't get the job without experience and you can't get experience without the job. It's then down to a bunch of pen-pushers, who'll decide who gets the choice jobs and who stays in the 'little league'. Bribery, nepotism and friendship are just a short hop from there.
  21. Pedant Alert - having written/ typed the defamation; and the words appearing in text. It is not slander but may be libel.
  22. So you'll not be able to take on any more of those, felling a tree in the kitchen of a basement flat. Or removing a fallen bough from a customer's loft after the storm.
  23. No! They just disturb the quiet of others. It's the idiot holding the bars/steering wheel, that has a chance to save lives. If they chose to.
  24. I know you want the work done & parts supplied under warranty but have you tried other Echo dealers for parts? It isn't simply your dealer waiting for enough customer orders to fill their own order. Ask the dealer how long they'd be prepared to wait for a backbox for their Audi or BMW. Before giving up and going to another outlet.
  25. Just because someone has certs, doesn't mean they're not going to be a cowboy/girl cutter. Nor does it mean they'll cut every tree every day safely. There's less chance that they'll be the former; and more chance that they'll be cutting safely when they do bring the toothed beast to life. But no guarantee. The world is full of good Intensions and people saying, this is the only way forward to a brighter morrow. And I'm not saying certs are a bad thing, nor that daylight robbery of the unwary or uninformed is a good thing. But there's plenty of people in the world, who would still if they had to, get some certs and still go through the savings of others by nefarious means; and may well do so unsafely. Also, there's plenty who would simply steal a vehicle and or just paint up a high-sided pickup, print off something that looked impressive, steal and or buy stolen equipment. Then go back to their old ways. For the home '3x a year' cutter. What's to prevent them buying cheap and or dodgy gear down the pub. If certs were the golden egg of safety. There'd be no pictures or gruesome stories, of certificated arborists having cut into a leg or rope or accidentally unclipped a piece of safe gear or fallen from a MEWP. And you can't say because it's law, it'll definitely happen this way or that. If laws could prevent people from doing bad things, the prisons would be empty.
