  1. Did cross my mind but the saw is practically new and if the thing was cross threaded, I didn't want to screw his saw, if you'll excuse the pun.
  2. You say there's a chunk missing. Do you know where it went? You sure it's not rattling around the bottom end?
  3. Not strictly on my bench, as he took it back to the dealer after I'd given it a once over. Friend recently bought a new Husky 365 Special. Ran it a few times but no more than a single tank. All seemed fine at first, until it started smoking from under the top cover. He stopped it right then. He thought it might have been his imagination and tried in vain to restart it. When we could meet, I had a look and started it without trouble, sounded good but it wasn't the quickest going and bogged in a test cut. Took the top cover off and found unburnt fuel on the fins. Not having a compression tester, I took the plug cap off and let the saw drop on the pull-cord. It got to the bottom a little too quickly. I wiped down the fins and mopped anything that looked liquid like, refitted the top cover and started the engine without trouble. Ran it for a few seconds, then shut it off and removed the top cover. Yep, the fins were wet again but only on the righthand side and wetter near the top. I checked the head bolts' tightness and they were good and then thought, "What the hell, check the de-comp switch for tightness." It turned without fuss a 1/4 turn and then another 1/4. I didn't know the torque setting for this and wondered if it had a crossed thread, though it didn't feel like it. I took the plug cap off, then let it drop on the pull-cord and this time it dropped more slowly. I advised he take it back to the dealer. History of the saw as far as my friend knows is this. The saw is new but has sat on a shelf for 4yrs. The dealer's main business is tractors but sells the occasional saw, (not so many 365s I surmise). I'm guessing the de-comp switch was not fitted properly at time of manufacture. Time in dealers so far three weeks and no news.
  4. Oops! Wrong thread.
  5. Generally, honesty begets honesty. That's how you get true friends and repeat business.

  7. For plant watering purposes: Keep it algae free by putting in an aquatic plant such as http://m.ebay.co.uk/itm/161621237383 . Avoid freezing by foam lagging connecting pipes, (if daisy-chaining butts) and site butt/s in sheltered place. Use a MDPE tap such as http://www.toolstation.com/m/part.html?p=87509 or similar in large bore. If daisy-chaining butts, use 25mm connecting pipe/s. Siting holes 100-150mm from base of each butt, so sunken debris doesn't block connecting pipes & tap. Make sure each butt is on firm level ground, as full, they weigh a lot and you don't want them shifting or sinking into the ground. If possible site butt/s on stand/wall/bank to give easy access to fill watering can/bucket/provide a head of water.
  8. Sunny & chilly.
  9. Sunny, sunny, sunny and right cold. Need three times the amount of clothes pegs.
  10. I'm with you. Treat a cyclist as you would a horse rider. Be patient, don't drive right up their backside, give plenty of room when overtaking and don't cut them up. Don't assume a cyclist will give good clear hand signals, because many do not. But if you're far enough away from them, then generally you have time for avoidance if/when they do something unexpected. Motor cyclists can be treated in broadly the same manner. Only they're heavier, much faster and on the whole ride much more dangerously. I've ridden m/cs, ride a pedal bike and drive a car among other forms of transport. Of all, the cyclist is the most vulnerable, the m/cyclist the daftest and the car driver complains most. I'm not saying ALL cyclists/motor cyclists/drivers are ill mannered and or ride/drive like mad people. Just that all too many of them are and do.
  11. Why does it have to be a gravity fed chipper.
  12. Been right hot lately. Today is bright and sunny with a cold wind. So in the sun and out of the wind is pleasant. In the shade is cold, as is being in sun but exposed to wind.

    Fedex.

Retuning from Malaysia once and luggage got lost for 3mts. When it did arrive, everything had been trashed, including presents, clothes and the case itself. But clearly visable were airport stickers. It had been through Moscow, Delhi, Paris, Vancouver, London, somewhere else in France, Madrid, back to Moscow, somewhere in Scotland, back to somewhere else in France, Spain again and finally London. There were other illegible airport stickers. Hope your delivery arrives in better nick than mine!

    Easter idiots

Yep! There are some people who inhabit their own cracked world. It's a pity theirs knocks into the real world all too often. As said, there's this unfathomable culture of, 'It's someone else's purse that'll pay for it. Even if I screwed-up'.
  16. If on a bench saw - lots If with a chainsaw, (select, cut, stack, load - 15-20
  17. Local place was willing to retail them for £12-£16. But would only pay supplier £5. Is it even worth cutting & seasoning for £5?

  19. Cloudless sky and warm. Been in the garden since just before 8am. Pruning, cutting back, tidying, etc. Feeling peckish so just come in for breakfast, only to find it's 15:50. Time flies when you're having fun.
  20. Been nice, sunny and mild for two days. Good for drying the washing too, as has been a slight wind too.
  21. But you'd have to build and extension.

    Other Job

Always wanted to try ballooning. Nearly took a job in the 90s in Yorkshire as ground chaser, etc. but the wage turned out to be only on flight days. Which would have put me in hock.
  23. For some people, everyday is a chance at another Birthday+Easter+Christmas. As they help themselves to the property of the honest citizen.
  24. Should be ok in fibreglass.
