  1. Try using anyvan. I've used them many times for big items
  2. I have a mate who works at a huge waste water treatment plant which has an anaerobic digester onsite to deal with the sludge to produce electricity and gas to be injected into the mains gas supply and yes the sludge is used in compost. It must be pasteurised first to 165 degrees centigrade prior to going into the digester. After around a week or so the cake is removed and used as a soil conditioner. It's an EU directive that any animal/human byproduct must be treated to remove harmful pathogens. Before that as per the previous post the untreated sludge could be used direct onto the fields provided it wasn't for human consumption. It was mainly used on fields of Willow trees used in biomass production. A lot of municipal green and food waste is hot composted in huge sheds and turned regularly for soil conditioner which its used on opencast and landfill reclamation site due to the amount of contaminants such as plastic etc. Your premium product is the pasteurised cake from sewage as its gone through more treatment.
  3. Champany Inn Linlithgow, Scotland. Expensive and posh, but well worth it. If your ever in New York, Sparks Steak House in Manhatten. Which has the infamous reputation of where Paul Castallano of the Gambino Mafia family was "Whacked" by John Gotti.
  4. Evening all, Been looking at buying a Stihl bed redifiner which isn't available in the UK. I've contacted Stihl customer services direct and guess what....no reply! I've seen them online from various places in the U.S. and was wondering if anyone has used the site USGoBuy: Package & Mail forwarding service for US Online Shopping or an equivalent? The Telegraph had an article about similar sites and said you still need to pay custom charges etc, but it was still a good option for iPads etc Many thanks
  5. County Durham is the same £25 a year or £60 for 3 years. I compost all my waste so told then to shove it, but pretty miffed when I keep my street clear of leaves in autumn and cut the grass in the council owned areas. I have noticed there has been an increase in green fly tipping on the outskirts of my village too.
  6. Many that's for all you posts. I picked up a nice new Stihl MS261 with the 18" bar. I've run it all afternoon cutting firewood and I must admit I'm very happy with it. Nice weight, very low vibration and rips through the wood. Thanks again for the advice, it was certainly worth posting the dreaded what saw title.
  7. Christ I'm no further forward..lol. I'm going for a mooch tomorrow so I'll see if that helps.
  8. Have a look at the RD 400 which is a Radio Detection machine, but a bit more advanced as it has a depth gauge on it. With all these detectors the best way to use them is using the Genny with a direct connection. All the utility companies employ a plant protection team who will come out to site and advise you on the location of their plant. They supply drawings and there normally guys who have been on the "tools" and now have HAVS or some other ailment which means they can't dig, but their local knowledge of where the services run to and from are a valuable resource you should use. The main thing is if you get a detector learn how to use it properly in all modes and don,t wear steel toe caps when you use it. The only other thing I would say is make sure you have one which is orange and not yellow as the MOD use a frequency which is close to that of the yellow machine. Happy hunting!
  9. Evening all, I am looking for a new saw which will be for cutting firewood and occasional felling, but nothing big. I was keen on a Stihl ms391, but after reading the posts on here everyone recommends getting a pro saw, as it is worth the extra cost in the long term. So it it down to either a Stihl ms261 or ms362. I haven't gone for a Husky as the reviews are there a bitch to start, unreliable and my local dealer doesn't stock them. I have a 45cc domestic saw with an 18" bar which is constantly getting repaired and I feel it's not got enough guts when needed. My main question is will either of the above saws run an 18" bar ok and what's your all round views on them? I have seen clutch problems posted about the ms261, but there a few years old now and was wondering if Stihl have sorted the issue? Many thanks.
  10. I've been reading this thread with some interest and now I feel it the time to post after watching these clowns, err sorry party leaders on the telly. Bear in mind this is only my opinion and as the saying goes "opinions are like arseholes and everyone has them!" I'm originally from the same town as Nicola Sturgeon and of similar age and I laugh at her anti Tory rhetoric. This is a woman who spouts venom every time she mentions Margaret Thatchers name blaming her for everything wrong with the country. Even though her parents bought there council house for about £10k and it's now worth £150k. She and the SNP has taken the right to buy away from council tenants, but has been a strong advocate of the land reforms which allow tenants to buy there land on the estates they live on in the Highlands. In effect a compulsory purchase order. Her refusal to do any deal with the Conseratives in the commons, yet in the Scottish Parliment they were constantly working together when they were in a minority. Now I live in County Durham and you could put Gary Glitter up for election as the Labour Party candidate and he would win in a landslide!! I have a relation who is a lecturer in politics and he never votes, as he pointed out Milliband, Clegg, Cameron and their minions like Danny Alexander, Ed Balls and George Osborne are all ex special advisors who when they finished university went straight to work for their respective parties having never had a real job. In effect whoever gets in has to deal with the last lots policies. So short of a revolution nothing with change! Having said the above I would point out that the Scots are voting SNP in huge numbers as they had 18 years of the Tories and 13 years of Labour. Did anything get better for average working guy during that time? I can't think of anything. But when the SNP got their chance in the plastic Parliment in Edinburgh they made sure they set up a difference to what London could offer and the results are clear to see. Free University, free prescriptions and elderly care etc.. Having said this I wouldn't trust them to run a bath as I think Nicola Sturgeon is on a vendetta to get the English back for Thatchers reign as she point out the Scots had to put up with her and never voted for her. Now she feels the boots on her foot and she's gunning for revenge. Maybe it's time for a change in England. Could UKIP be the difference?? Time will tell, maybe Billy Connoly is right. Don't vote....it only encourages them!!
  11. I own a Eliet Major 4s and as per the previous posts they are ideal for hedge trimmings. Ejects the shredded waste straight into a wheelie bin or can be spread into beds as mulch. There are some good clips of it in action on youtube.
  12. Got 5 numbers between myself and 3 guys I used to work with about 15 years ago. That last number out was 45 and we had 44!! We ended up with £525 each, but if it had been 44 we would have had £876k + change each. Bugger!!!!
  13. I think it is always best to show you landline number. To quote Tubbs & Edward from the League of Gentlemen " Are you local?" Too many flyers I see from the "professional" garden clearance brigage who live in a house with wheels advertise with 0800 numbers or mobiles. Consumer affairs media are highlighting this and people are getting more savvy to spotting rogue trader and a landline with a geographical number shows you are less likely to be a cowboy.
  14. I got a Burley Holywell 5kw stove fitted last year and I would highly recommend one. We run our gas central heating for an hour in the morning to heat the water and take the chill off, but after that we run the stove with all the doors open and we have an average temperature round the house of ~ 22°, but a lot higher in the lounge lol!!
  15. Have you felt the connected hoses? You should feel the hydraulic fluid being pumped in when you press the foot pedal.
