  1. Dry at the moment but there's a glouwering sky. Is that the correct spelling?
  2. If you've got a record of serial numbers, etc., you could still put them in Arbsafe.
  3. Started as hospital transport, then today's just been a little weeding & deadheading in the garden. Tomorrow I've a wrought iron gate to fix, some trellis to fix and a hedge to trim... weather permitting.
  4. If you can stretch to a s/h MS 211, would still be good for occasional use but be a more capable saw.

Ah, sorry for the duplication. I've not been around for a lil while.

Not saying it would be the best for arb stuff but would be grand for those treetop selfies. https://www.lily.camera
  7. Std. fitting is .325" but can fit 3/8".

    Darwin Award

If he didn't die, he should certainly get an honourable mention.
  9. I'll probably go but not sure which day.
  10. Sunny and hot yesterday and now it's the comforting rain. Hospital transport again, so I'll be out of it for most of the day.
  11. He'll have to be PDQ, as they quietly stated, that they'd abolish the HRA ( https://www.change.org/p/david-cameron-mp-we-call-on-the-government-and-the-prime-minister-to-provide-a-national-referendum-on-the-planned-abolition-of-the-human-rights-act?recruiter=41067461&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=facebook&utm_campaign=petition_update&utm_term=des-lg-petition_update-custom_msg ) in their first 100 days in power.
  12. NPTC CS 30.1 & 30.2 (maintenance & cross cutting), CS31 ( (felling up to 380mm), is now NPTC 201 (maintenance & cutting system), 202, (cross cutting), 203 (felling up to 380mm).
  13. Rob didn't mention this fine establishment, so I will: http://www.chainsawbars.co.uk/chains/ Certainly buying 5L is cheaper than 1L. Plenty of makes other than Stihl if you want a change. As said above, learn to hand sharpen on the bar, will save you time and may save you money. You didn't say which bar size you have. I'm going to stick my neck on the block and say that greater than 14", will be slow going with a MS171.
  14. Nice vids.
  15. Machines are quicker but if time allows and for finishing, I prefer hand shears.
  16. Nice photos... some very nice.
  17. Box & Yew you only need to cut once a year. Privet, (my favourite) a number of times a year. But yes, a 10mm or larger weed killer would do the job. Then if you want, plant a small extension onto the maze's exit.
  18. Simply put, a std. exhaust is like a garden maze, only there's a ceiling too. The exhaust baffles are the internal walls of the maze.

    Jokes???

What's the definition of a farmer? A man outstanding in his field.

    Files.

I use Oregon and have been thinking of Save Edge but got a deal on boxes of Oregon flat & round. I get through more flat than round; the flat ones don't last long, even when tapping to keep clean.

    Fencing

Could have been chiseled or machined out with a mortice drill. Mortice drills are still widely used but more oft used these days, are routers.
  22. As Daythe trees said, use a needle nose or crocodile pliers. Slip one side-jaw inside the spring and push. Make sure the cover is held down on a flat surface, (don't try holding it in the other hand). In the vid below, he uses a large slot screwdriver. But using the same technique but with the pliers, will give the same result, with a better degree of safety. He's made a reset tool from a cutdown scrench. But as you can see in the next vid, this guy, (as I did) just resets the mechanism by twisting it with pliers. However you fit the tensioning spring, once it's in place, either hold it in place with your thumb or as in the 2nd vid with a plate. Otherwise it's going to pop out while you're resetting the mechanism. Fitting the tensioning spring takes less than a minute. Reseting the mechanism a little longer but all in, it takes a minute or so. You can add another couple of minutes for removing a broken brake band, cleaning and refitting. Before refitting the tensioning spring.
  23. Maybe they don't pay NI and or are on the dole and working on the side. Also, with so much gear being stolen. Perhaps they didn't pay for the gear they're using or paid a much reduced price and know where they can get more if 'theirs' brakes.
  24. That's one very clean clipped hedge.
  25. You know it's windy, when flattened tins skid across the car park and it's tamping. On the bright side, my car passed the MOT.
