Hi Thanks for the info regarding regulations some useful stuff. how do you go about getting a pre filled in exemption form that VOSA / DVSA supply? if you know of any website links that would be appreciated. Trading Standards are giving the impression that they want scales. My bags are produced to a given size this doesn't sound acceptable to them but awaiting feedback I think they'll say the same about IBC containers

Ye they certainly tick the boxes for the tight jobs and make do and mend approach. I did bid on one about 5 years ago in the FC auctions. It had a burnt out cab but apart from that looked clean. My 1210 is the shorter version so not to bad in the tight spots but it'll leave a much bigger footprint than the brunett -
Ye that's what I've done. The council have no idea about this type of fuel and how it should be marketed. I cant see a fairer system than stating the loose size of the load and the average moisture content. I'm not changing the way I currently sell logs

Ye I was thinking that too. I've never had a complaint over the description of what a customer gets. I thought we'd moved away from the "bulk bag" description and I've pulled them up on the sale of firewood by weight. Who cant understand "the logs are tightly packed in a cubic meter bag(100cm/100cm/100cm)" I've asked how on earth they expect logs to be marketed. Do you think they've sent the letter to the superstores selling nets?

Na they were trying to get my address to send stuff out I told them to email it and the same letter arrived today (below). Please find attached a copy of a letter which is being sent to all firewood sellers in Perth and Kinross who are selling by volume, providing advice about how these sales should be conducted. Under current legislation you are also required to have the geographical address of your business on your website whether it is for sales or marketing. the likes of jim wilmer must cut a huge volume over the space of a day with a fleet of over 60 machines apparently. There's a lot of guys in Scotland with a big number of machines all fighting for the work now.

I think you've summed up the issue pretty well. If people cannot understand what a cubic meter bag is they shouldn't be trusted to burn logs in the first place. It would be good to hear what the response is

Hi All I'm on the lookout for a splitting wedge for a hakki 1x42. Looking for a 8way wedge but another configuration could be adapted into a 8 way. Anyone know where's best to pick one up? Or have an idea of the prices ? Cheers

Just picked up 100 cubic meter vented bags from bulkbag containers. They were £5.30 each plus vat. Quite good quality

Around here its £250 for 4m3 of kiln dried hardwood delivered. The RHI Must be making them enough to undercut the competition

You can remove the splitting wedge on the 42 but your still left with the backing plate so no good for disks. I'm sure the 50 will be the same but not used one

Ye think its a binderberger. No idea what it costs to hire but its hard enough to make a profit on O/S stuff. Must be in the region £55/h plus low-loader perhaps more?

Hi The cracker works quite well in oak, beech & sycamore was struggling quite a bit with Elm and twisty field Maple but that was expected. Getting processor sized hardwood is almost impossible in this area so the cracker has its place but most of the stuff will still need to be cross cut and split manually.

I had a 380 it was a good machine for the money and held its value. If you go for a tajfun I would strongly recommend the log loader. Downside was the chain constantly running

Thanks The area in question is where the SSSI follows a dyke and adjacent woodlands edge not what contributes to the significance of the designations on the ground. Its like talking to a brick wall via the forestry commission. rant over, not to detract from the original post

Don't Get me started on SNH. I've recently submitted a new planting proposal for 61ha MB/MC with about 25ha native planting on hill ground. Its on the edge of a SSSI but included within the SSSI boundary. SNH have stated that they will object to the proposals stating the site is in favourable condition (photos below) And no they haven't looked at the site since being made aware of our proposals. They have made reference to aerial photos. They have clarified that no designated species have been recorded in our planting area. The planting area accounts for 3% of the SSSI and full of bracken, rank heather and now non native regeneration as its no longer being grazed. They have no idea of land management or economics revolving around it

I've not long bought a 1x42 with log deck and haven't got round to using it yet. How do you find yours? anything to keep an eye on? The pervious machine was a Tajfun 380 which was a good machine for the money main downside was the chain running all the time. -
Hi The forwarder was better suited to take cracker over the cone splitter plus it saves having one of the diggers tied up on firewood duties. Im waiting on a new pipes as the ones to the relief valve kept on leaking, ends wouldn't seal. Im based by Pitlochry, Perthshire
