  1. I process cord once its semi seasoned then store it under cover in a big agricultural building with a concrete floor until seasoned then hand fill cubic meter bags prior to delivery. But need to speed up the bagging process was thinking of making a hopper which could be filled with the loader. anybody got a way of avoiding mould on the logs?
  2. Ye I've got a 380 and have had the exact same issues. It was second hand when I got it and getting through the bars in no time. I ended up flushing out the chain oil tank and line to the bar. Not had any issues with the bar since. I also mix a bit of used oil with the chain oil and that's helped loads as you can spot a blockage (sawdust dirt etc.) I don't like the way the chain is always spinning, it throws out oil all the time which the sawdust then sticks to gets compressed and blocks things up. Also the splitter ram sometimes goes slow or stops on return if bark and sawdust build up underneath.
  3. Spot on Plus FISA say that "all accidents are avoidable" If you took that approach you wouldn't start the saw in the first place.
  4. So Has anybody emailed FISA regarding it all? [email protected] [email protected] They don't seem to like hearing the views of chainsaw users:thumbdown:
  5. Ye it doesn't need to do a lot of work to pay itself off at that
  6. What did it go for? missed the end of the auction
  7. There's a few Forwarders currently on ebay Timberjack 1210, Ponsse S15 & Mini Bruunett
  8. thanks guys for the info, that gives me something to go with. sold a few more boards today!!
  9. Hi, I am currently sorting through a load of oak which was milled back in 2009 and been stored undercover ever since. We have all sizes of boards up to 4inch thick all rough-sawn. I am trying to workout what the approximate value per cubic meter would be? I'm getting £800/m3 from one guy but looking to shift more off it. Does £800/m3 sound about right? Haven't sold sawn hardwood before so any advice would be appreciated
  10. I've got a tajfun 380, it works well but sawdust can tend to block the sawdust shoot and material can get behind the splitter causing it to run slowly at times but if you keep an eye on it then this shouldn't be a problem. I find the manual system really quick to operate
  11. You could advertise it on woodlots, but I'd talk to the local firewood guys. Unfortunately 20 trees would struggle to cover the lowloader costs of moving machinery any distance
  12. haha, ye the guy probably realised the error with the price when he was bombarded with foke enquiring about it
  13. Thanks. The norcar looks like a good sized unit for thinning jobs, had a look but didn't see the one on mascus. Any ideas on what I should be paying for a osa or Brunette in good working condition? I like the idea of a Brunette as they don't look to difficult to work and the abundance of international parts
  14. Thinking of getting an older style forwarder for some 1st & 2nd thinning jobs. Has anybody got any experience of OSA forwarders? seen a 250 for sale which looks clean but don't know anyone who's operated them so any advice would be a help Also thinking of possibly getting Brunette instead?
  15. Its been made fairly clear if your to work on FC land or for most of the larger management companies who are members of FISA you'll need the refresher training if you use a chainsaw for any sort of felling activities. Anybody in any doubt ask the FC!! Its shocking how FISA has responded to the views of the majority of contractors/chainsaw users who have many years experience. Not to mention the rift they have made between themselves and the Forestry Contractors Association (FCA)
  16. FISA are looking to impose refresher training for anyone using saws on there day-to-day working career. Anybody working for the Forestry Commission will need to be a member and retrained at least every 5 years. its what happens next? compulsory re training for climbers, use of wood chippers FMOC's etc. etc..
  17. £5 per cubic meter sounds fine to me and it should be easy to process into logs being small stuff. we are currently getting around £30 for small round wood that's delivered and paid for by the tonne which is the standard. Get a quote for harvesting and haulage (£/tonne) best way to go
  18. They'll make chainsaw refresher courses the standard then fmoc refreshers, where will it all end? and at what cost to contractors especially smaller one or two man bands? This is always going to be a dangerous industry to work in but to many heath and safety related decisions appear to be made by those who have no hands on experience in working on the forest floor. I'd recommend checking the FISA website out fore more info
  19. £60/m3 for unprocessed 3m lengths of softwood is Crazy money. just pay by the tonne and get a weight ticket from the haulier. £35/t max up this way delivered
  20. Ive been thinking of making a kiln out of an insulated container, Good idea?? got any photos of your old setup?
  21. Bark will come off quicker if the logs have been through a harvesters head. Otherwise it should last 12 months
  22. Cheers will look up Turnbull treecare and give them a call. Brett could be intrested in split/processed logs as my stocks of seasoned stuff is starting to get low. Will PM you Thanks
  23. Thanks Paul, I'll give them a call and see if they got any going
  24. Hi has anybody got any seasoned or semi seasoned hardwood firewood at roadside or delivered to Pitlochry, Perthshire?Ideally processor friendly (10-45cm) but would take larger sized stuff. Thanks Mark 07748434945
