  1. Pretty much, lid was a bit flimsy so reinforced it with a piece of ply hence all the roofing bolts. Regards, Steve.
  2. Chipper has vice mounted on it, if not with the chipper then either stump vice or tap in vice if in the middle of woodland. Nearly all the time a vehicle is nearby so just get out the toolbox... Regards, Steve.
  3. Had one recently, quoted for a conny dismantle, client wouldn't have it but I could see what was involved - it might have only been 12' high but the stem was nearly 3' diameter (had been trimmed for 50 years) so he wanted to haggle and I met him half way (all over £25). Not long after we started he said there was a cheque on the driver's seat, it was full amount quoted along side a top bottle of wine... Regards, Steve.
  4. Got the turntable version, excellent machine. Had the 150 before but the 200 is a different beast altogether. They last too, mine's 2001 and only had a paint touchup this year. The flywheel is not something you can pick up and with 52hp it takes some slowing down. Turntable is slightly heavier not just for the obvious reason but it steps up to twin axle. If you go second hand see if it's got the upgraded top roller with teeth - it's a must have. If you're buying new then the new models are coming out. Regards, Steve.
  5. Does it still feel like England though now we've joined the rest of the world in having a non national coach? Felt a bit different today. Regards, Steve.
  6. Game was so so, but the last couple of minutes gives me hope. Regards, Steve.
  7. Sena don't have noise cancellation according to Graygit's thread. Apart from that the 10's look good, 5's only run two units. Regards, Steve.
  8. Supermarkets are the best..... Regards, Steve.
  9. Apologies for the slightly different angles and light levels, I'm sure Joe wont mind me posting. Lovely shape and a very happy customer. Pics or it didn't happen and all that.... Regards, Steve.
  10. Danny Williams and Sons from Lampeter had an artic with speedy operator near our yard in Cowbridge the other day. 01570 422118 Regards, Steve.
  11. Took a chance on a new subby this week. http://arbtalk.co.uk/forum/members/jrose.html Joe came in for a couple of days to do a couple of large Ash reductions for me. From the start he was upfront on the phone about experience/abilities etc. and to be honest sold himself short. He turned up at the agreed meeting point and put in two days of very competent climbing. Good attitude, safe, polite to client. Worked in quite adverse weather conditions - not a murmur. Finished the job and came out of the tree, instead of packing his gear away and getting in the truck he started dragging brash, feeding the chipper then got out his blower to clear the road. Day two spent a couple of hours dragging brash through a quagmire of a field after finishing his climbing. If you need a subby I can certainly recommend him and will definitely use him again. Regards, Steve.
  12. I think a lot of people get their photo taken next to the road sign in Orkney with the directional arrow pointing to Twatt. Regards, Steve. EDIT - like so..
  13. But not for what we do, exemptions run along the lines of the tacho ones. Regards, Steve.
  14. Renew every five years, doctors and opticians reports for which they charge. Regards, Steve.
  15. All coming back to me now, was towing over 750kg behind 7.5t over 20 years ago but didn't think anything of it as I've always had the class I, so looks like paying the doctor and optician every five years will be cheaper than a C1+E test and to be honest if I went over 3.5t with the truck I'd skip the 7.5t and get something more useful anyway. Regards, Steve.
  16. About 4 weeks ago 42.9 +VAT on a 1000l delivery. Regards, Steve.
  17. Just checked mine and I have C1E, so 7.5t + trailer up to 12t GTW or MAM, but they have then put the code 107 after it to limit it to 8.25t There is no logic to that at all as it's on the next line after my pre '97 class I HGV, now called CE......? Then D1E (minibus + trailer up to 12t GTW or MAM) has a code 119 - weight limit for vehicle does not apply! What a mess. Regards, Steve.
  18. Fair comment Bob, was under the influence whilst posting last night and hadn't considered 'man bars', only have stock 48" to deal with but keep meaning to get longer for milling. Regards, Steve.
  19. Update, Have had a lot of calls and texts on this, to clarify they are not TPO and it's not CA, customer is up to speed with tea and coffee, groundy present and I will be taking the stem over the ABC and BT whilst acting as ariel rescue but I'm trying to rest a bit as not long from tendon surgery on left hand. Weather forecast is dry Wednesday with 4mph wind and I need the two done in two days. Anyone wanting to view the trees (and there have been a couple) I will meet Monday morning outside the Mughal Emperor on the A48 as the postcode covers a wide area and this is the back of beyond. Will be on 07734 943570 tomorrow (give us a lie in!) or message through here. Regards, Steve.
  20. Have had to use it up the tree - not great fun. If you can get away with 660 then do it, awesome @ 18", great @ 25", still good at 36". As others have said, when you need it you need it, it really is a different tool to the 660 whether milling or ringing up. I would have to debate (with respect) with aspenarb re sharpening as this was an initial concern for me, the 880 runs .404 as opposed to the 3/8 on the 660 - so a .404 @ 48" is only 12 cutters more than a 3/8 @ 36" - no great shakes for me. Regards, Steve.
  21. Is it not odd that the council would phone? I'd have asked them to put it in writing. Regards, Steve. EDIT - Digdugdan beat me to it
  22. As per title I need a good climber for a couple of Ash reductions, both decent size trees over a road with ABC and BT running under. Job is near Cowbridge CF71 and needs doing Wed 16th to Fri 18th December. Ariel rescue cover present. Immediate payment by BACS on receipt of invoice. Had a good subby but he's set up on his own now. No chancers, you will be found out straight away and kicked off site - simples. Proper money for the right man (or woman). Call Steve on 07734 943570 or message through here. Regards, Steve.
  23. Always find the branch wood to split really easy but the base of the stem is a pig, also second mr. Varty - split when green. Regards, Steve.
  24. Exactly Spud, 880 comes out rarely but when it does it's the unequivocal tool for the job - 660 is more an everyday saw, very capable at 36" but to be honest mostly lives on 25" so the 372 can be demoted to 18" leaving 550/346 on 15" then toppers. Regards, Steve.
  25. End of.
