  1. He honestly thought that me keeping the logs was a sweetner for me but I would obviously have to clear the site after! If you get pros in to do all the other work then why would a tree be any different? He has gone quiet since I mentioned the 20k fine for ignoring a TPO though...
  2. I have just been offered the chance by a friend of my brother to cut down a tree at a house that he has just bought and refurbed as an investment property. Luckily for me I get to keep the wood for my fire (obviously after splitting and seasoning at my own property)! Yes I have a chainsaw and yes I use it to cut logs in my garden but he knows that I am no tree surgeon so no I will not be climbing his tree and killing myself in the process. The strange thing is that my suggestion of getting a professional in to do it seems to be considered a 'waste of money'! Did the mortgage company work for free? The estate agent? The builders? Sorry rant over!
  3. Damn it! Where was this idea back then??
  4. I saved my employer 1.2 million in lost funding so at Christmas I was given a chocolate snowman... the same 'bonus' that was given to the staff that caused the majority of those losses.
  5. PS - The job will need to be done over the school holidays so looking to get a quote asap!
  6. Hi all, Not sure if anyone can help or point me in the right direction but here goes! I have been asked to get someone in to sort out the wooden playground in a special needs school. Part needs to be taken out (such as the zipline which is bloody dangerous) and other parts need sanding down and repainting. The school is in Surrey and if you are interested then PM me. Thanks
  7. Is Croydon/Sutton too far off?
  8. that is a shocking piece of work - I wouldn't even do that on one of the jobs my wife makes me do in the garden on my day off!
  9. It's worth something to someone! Try selling on gumtree by the boot load?
  10. They are all great but I especially love that bench! I would be more than happy to put myself out and advertise your work by accepting the bench for free and then telling everyone how great it is!
  11. Quite right! Extending the circle around the tree must be a better option??
  12. I sent this picture to my wife and she came home from work thinking that I had made it! Gotta love her optimism in my skills!
  13. I had this with my sycamore when I had a pile without the proper airflow but never when cut and split. After a leg injury a while back I spent a lot of time sitting in the garden de-barking the unsplit logs before the kids stacked them again and that worked a treat!
  14. I once filled up my Mondeo with unseasoned logs until I couldn't see out of the rear view mirror - I don't have a Mondeo anymore...
  15. So let me understand this correctly - I as a non qualified amateur who once dropped a tree onto a neighbours shed could bid on this with no insurance and get firewood? Yay!
  16. Card from the 2 external boys, 1 from the little fella still trapped in her belly, shirts and a new knife (I think she had to buy that those as even Croydon shops don't sell them to kids!) - happy day!
  17. It was very pink - it's what caught my eye. The boys did decide to NOT climb this tree even though they had gone for every other tree in the 200 acres!!!
  18. ... in Selsdon Nature reserve - my kids loved it!
  19. I keep chickens and mine always go in as bedding - plenty people will buy it!
  20. I LOVE this idea - I may try it on my pool when the sun decides to come out...
