  1. Like that a lot, will have to keep a lookout for some of it, might help clear my sinusitis up a bit.
  2. Once got told you can burnish with a brass rod but not tried it myself, might be worth a go on the underneath.
  3. Cast is easy enough to weld provided it prepared right. Arc welding is still the best way to do it. Cut vee,s along the break then heat it till it starts to give off smoke, tack weld till there is enough on so that it wont move when all the casting is welded. When its all been welded leave it on the bench out of any cold draught and it will be as good as new once cleaned up.

    Worn out saw?

Thanks for the replies, chain and bar was sharp and clean and not trapped in the cut, think he must have just been trying to do too much with a small saw, I did forget to mention he was cutting 18" + dia. Time for a bigger saw or smaller tree's. Thanks all.

    Worn out saw?

Dont know much about petrol saws so looking for a bit of help. Was helping a mates mate dismantle a large beech, he was using a stihl saw, I dont know which model, but think it was a 14" bar if this helps. Saw would not cut at all well so chain was sharpened and it cut like it should do on sub 3" stuff. When he started to cut larger limbs the saw really struggled to cut, on cutting the trunk it looked as though the saw was "stalling" the revs were there but dying down and the chain at times stopped with the engine still running, he had to lift of from the cut to restart the chain. I only have an electric saw but to be honest mine could have done 3 times the work of his. Any help will be much appreciated, or is it just knackered.

  22. You could screw some waste wood to the faceplate then use a hot melt glue gun to stick your blank on, it's not ideal but does work.
  23. Sounds like you have a faceplate, use wood screws to fasten the piece you want to turn onto the faceplate then screw the faceplate onto the spindle, this is for bowl turning. If you have a 2 or 4 prong drive, this again should go into the spindle with a revolving centre in the other end (tailstock) for turning spindles. As stated in above post, photo's would be very helpful.
  24. You say wenge gets and lighter as it ages, I saw some advertised as "white wenge" , never heard of it myself, but would you say this was just aged black wenge?
