  1. Apart from what Barrie said which I agree with my first thought on pulling the 'Champion' plug was that it looked fishy. I thought it was a fake - something about the lettering didn't look quite right. Apparently there are plenty of fake NGKs on eeebay.
  2. OK maybe it was a misfire not a backfire I'll have to get to grips with the difference . Anyway I changed the sparkplug from a QJ 19LM to a new BR2LM and it's firing smoothly . Cheers Barrie
  3. Thanks Bill
  4. Cheers Barrie. Learnt something there.
  5. How did I know that was coming? Lambs to the slaughter 😀😀 Ok cheers for that Barrie - a bit more to go on.
  6. Strimmer running erratically and dying. Flushed fuel tank out - full of jelly like gunk.Wonder if somebody added motor oil. Cleaned out, new fuel line and filter -still running ropey.Opened carb not surprised it was struggling with this jelly blocking the filter.
  7. General question. What are the likely causes of a mower backfiring. SV150 flat head engine on a cheap b &qish mower. Timing? Had the flywheel off - key is fine. Could carb play a role?
  8. +1 on that.God knows why we gamble on THE most important stuff Did it again yesterday.
  9. Blimey the Hayters look immaculate
  10. Thanks Barrie. On order - will give that a whirl.Appreciated. ps not sure what the woodscrew trick is?? Take the head off and sharpen so it's like 2 pointed ends? Then screw in both ht leads to make the join?;cheers.

  13. If the wire is sealed into magneto - not the screw in type..how do you join an extra short length on?? Crimp connectors then heat shrink? Cheers.
  14. Excellent post. Most people can change parts - this is the skillful end of the spectrum. Thanks for sharing all.
  15. Sorted. Problem was I had the old fuel filter in the silver cap. Removed and could fit the new line. I love these oldies. [ame] [/ame]

  19. Stihl 010 AV.Bought new in 1987 - year of the storm. Remember first time i fired it up in a small garden in London - motorbike helmet on and about 4 parkas - psycho PPE. Neighbours bolted the doors and curtains twitched. Still.on the same carb kit. 2nd spark plug in 28 yrs and that's about it. Not exactly been a maintenance burden. Well done Long Beach Stihlers. Sent from my GT-N7000 using Arbtalk mobile app
  20. Bought a replacement part as below but mid section not long enough to fill the depth of hole in moon shaped fuel tank so have salvaged old one - adding a short length of fuel line where it had broken and new filter on that. Seems to be leaking fuel from metal cap area.Any sealants/greases involved to make the seal.Any tips for replacing these ?- I imagine theyre on the vintage side now - lovely old KT12ad based strimmer.
