  1. But what tree? That is the important question. Only joking. Hope you get things sorted out.
  2. Getting bit dark and gloomy here (sunny Brighton). They say we're in for snow tomorrow but doesn't feel cold enough yet...
  3. For reference, this is one on a Sequoia...
  4. I believe your GPS location is automatically sent when you ring 112 as well. Very useful number to know!
  5. What Rich said really. Don't hesitate to ask questions. Get a feel for holding the saw on it's side with bar parallel to the ground. The flatter you can get the bar, the better your cuts will match up. Enjoy it. It's loads of fun!
  6. What a fantastic tree! I shall be watching this thread with interest. I can't offer much advice, unfortunately.
  7. Eeeeew!! Do you think it works better than yogurt? Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  8. Oooh, Jura! Lovely stuff, that. Has anyone mentioned Oban? It ticks all my boxes. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  9. Well done for saying something. Let him break his neck. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  10. Sounds like a lot to me but I'm only in a 1 bedroom flat with the girlfriend... Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  11. I believe the thing with a longbow in battle is it's very unlikely to kill anyone it hits straight away. If a soldier was to get an arrow through their thigh/shoulder/stomach, they are not going to drop down dead but they sure as hell can't fight. They would very likely die later from infection/blood loss etc. due to poor sanitary conditions in medicine at the time. Same applies to hunting. The velocity of a bullet from a rifle does so much damage even with a bad shot, the target doesn't really stand a chance. You've got to hit an artery or the heart or lungs to drop a deer with a bow. 12. I believe one of the main benefits of a smaller diameter rope is its weight. I've had a go on someone's 11.5mm tachyon and it felt very very nice to climb with. Much lighter, smoother and more flexible, somehow, than my xtc plus. I'll be getting some for sure at soon!
  13. Lovely stuff. Nice hinge! Love the tune and the limb's eye views were cool. Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  14. I need to get me one of those teleportation devices you have on your wrist in the poplar video Sent using Arbtalk Mobile App
  15. Freelance Gardener/Climber. Sculptor Cello Tutor Drum and Bass Producer Jack of all trades, I think they call it...
  16. Nice one Rich. Thanks for the advice. Will have a closer look!
  17. Will have a closer look in the light tmrw. Will feel like a plum if it does just need a clean. The drive sprocket and chain brake regularly get a brush out when I'm sharpening the chain. None of my other, older saws have done this. Chain brakes have got easier to engage if anything...
  18. Hi chaps. I got myself an MS341 a couple of years ago. It's had some use but nothing like on a daily basis. However- Since I bought it I thought the chain brake was a bit hard to engage but never worried too much about it. Been using it the last two days and its gotten loads worse - It's now so stiff, the back of my hand is blue. I'm having to use the heel of my palm to put it on which is far from safe... Anyone had this happen? Is it just gunked up? Anything I can do? Thanks!
  19. I got a 'Sony Xperia Go' a few months back. Asked in the shop for a robust phone as I work outside etc. You can apparently take photos under water with this thing (not in a hurry to try, mind) as long as the charger and headphone ports are closed. Dust proof as well. I've got a cheap leather case on it to protect from knocks. I regularly use it in the rain and even took it up Mount Snowdon (it got a proper bath in my pocket that day).
  20. Fantastic news! A great event for a very worthy cause Well done Steve and well done Children's Trust!
  21. Trust what your instructor tells you and ask questions if you're unsure about something. Keep calm, even if it's taken you 20 throws to get your next anchor point. Enjoy it. It takes time to build confidence. Where are you doing it?
  22. I'm looking to get 1 pretty basic kit loler'ed for the first time as soon as possible. Based in Brighton. Does anyone know anywhere/anyone near by? Many thanks. Luke.
  23. Keep your head. The last time I got a nasty silky bite I was hacking at some Russian vine which had swamped the middle of a Cyprus. Stupid, I know as I had my secateurs on my belt too! The problem was I was getting angry. Taught me a lesson, that's for sure. After I finish a cut and am moving the saw back to scabbard I twist the saw 180 degrees so the teeth are facing opposite direction of travel. Especially useful if it's got to pass your climbing line. Someone's said it already but it's when you're finishing a cut that the saw becomes a little unpredictable.
