  1. If he's presenting 'in character' I'll invest in it myself!!!
  2. Currently half way throughout the second episode so haven't yet seen some if the bits you guys are describing... Apart from the whole "here's as chainsaw- go cut trees down" attitude, I was squirming during the CREDITS at the 1st person view of the presenter wildly flailing a billhook about with his other hand not 3" away from where he was cutting.:-S I do think it's a good thing, however, that people understand the work that's gone into Britain's woods over the centuries. When's the arbtalk show being commissioned then?! :-)
  3. Fantastically fluid! I would love to have a climb on a tree like that. It's a gum, right? What flavour?
  4. Lovely stuff! What tree was it? How long do stump carvings generally last compared to normal carved bits of timber?
  5. Nice one, thanks. Let it be, let it be. Is Hama a beatles fan or am I missing a joke Will give the customer the option. If they're worried about the tree, they can get an assessment done. I suppose the tree has been in that way for many years already.
  6. Thanks Tony. That's a great name for it
  7. [quote name=A friendly word of advice though, photos and Internet discussion are not a good recipe or replacement for thorough on site assessment, particularly on a tree that may need further professional inspection. .[/quote] Thank you David. I agree with you about the proper assessment. Is there anyone you or anyone else would recommend down here in East Sussex? Luke.
  8. Hi guys. Hope i'm in the right section for this. Forgive me if not, this is my first post. This oak tree is in the grounds of a property where a gardener friend of mine works. Anyway, on a particularly rainy morning, I packed in my work for the day and popped over to have a cuppa and a look round the grounds. I noticed the cavity at the base and looking closer it appears to be pretty much hollow. Bit concerning as house is only the other side of gravel driveway (see pic1). What sort of prognosis does a tree like this have? How long will it last living only on its buttress roots? Would it be safe enough with a crown reduction/thin? Cheers. Luke.
  9. Hello Arbtalk! Long time lurker here. Very grateful for all the fantastic advice, tips and information I have obtained from this site over the last few years. I've been working as a gardener for a couple of years now using chainsaws for carving and a bit of work in some woods. Have always loved any sort of work with trees. Apple tree pruning being a favourite until I started climbing properly. Just done my cs38 and can't get enough! Will be posting pics of some recent jobs shortly! Luke.
