  1. File and guide. In a vice when I can.
  2. How long have you been self employed?
  3. If you can get to a shop to try some on, all the better. I managed to try on 4 or 5 before choosing the stein super plasma. It's a bit heavier than most but really comfy on me noggin!
  4. In that situation any helmet would do the same.
  5. So it has! I guess I've not looked closely at it before.
  6. If you buy it new and use it for work, you're good for 6 months from date of purchase (possibly date of first use... Not sure on that.) without Loler certificate. You don't need one if you're just climbing recreationally. Welcome to the forum!
  7. The stuff which turns steel blue is the tannin in the oak. This actually erodes steel over time. It can't be that bad for us as wine takes on the tannin from the barrels it's stored in.
  8. 1 older sister. 1 cat!
  9. That's a beautiful thing for sure. Would love to see the finished piece. Does the missus know you're grinding on the garden furniture...
  10. Unfortunately the council had to pollard the one by the pitches last year. There's nothing left, really but the stem. Not sure if it was a structural problem or DED.
  11. Isn't it! Not seen an oak grown like that before...
  12. First pic is an opportunistic ash rooted in a big old conifer log. The second is a limb on one of the bigger horse chestnuts ive ever seen. 3rd and 4th are a beautiful oak tree on henfield common. Anyone seen this? It's about 10 foot in diameter at the first junction. Reccy climb anyone? Don't know how many of you know Brighton but these are the ' two brothers' two Ulmus Vulgaris in Preston park. Thought to be over 400 years old (I think that's a bit conservative...?) you can get about 5 people inside the second one. Sorry you can't see the canopy of each very well. Was in a rush. Will take more if anyone wants.
  13. Sounds like a great idea although isn't that heat in the chip pile bacteria breaking down the wood...? Used to work at a green waste recycling centre and the piles of shredded green waste (wind rows) could reach an internal temp of around 80 degrees C although there were some nasty things in like e coli etc. Chip is probably not as bad as that but maybe something to think about.
  14. Fantastic breed. My girlfriend's brother just got a border/patterdale cross. Lovely temperament.
  15. Jealous here, Jon! Burning money at the moment. We've had to rely on the heating all winter as it's taken so long to get chimneys looked at! Frustrating as there's a few ton of logs outside...
  16. Nice one. Thanks for the info. Sounds like a very similar situation to us.
  17. Nice one adie. We were using the open fire last winter after we moved in but a couple of flats above us said they could smell smoke so we have to get the chimney lined whatever happens By 'air vent' do you mean something specific that needs to go in the wall or are the air bricks that are already there adequate? Luke.
  18. Nice one Jon. I bet it's always toasty in your place.
  19. Thank you guys for the helpful info. Much appreciated! I'm waiting to see what maximum diameter of flue is possible (old 4 story house, we're in lower ground floor flat). As to the air vent necessity - there are a couple of air bricks in the external wall (and cat flap). Are these sufficient or are the regs referring to something more specific?
  20. Hello chaps. Hope this is in the right place... Looking to get a woodburning stove. I've had a couple of people come round to look at lining chimney. Both guys were saying different things about flue diameter. Am I right in thinking the diameter of the stove flue outlet and kw output of stove dictates the diameter of chimney lining? Do they need to insulate the chimney liner in chimney itself? (I'll be burning wood, possibly with a bit of coal sometimes) The living room is - H - 9' L - 20' W - 15' What sort of kw output would I need for a room that size? Thank you!
  21. Awesome video, beautifully shot! Love the tilt-shift bit with you all barefoot walking around the tree. What's the song?
  22. Ah, yes, well... There we go then. Thanks Steve!
  23. The knot app is great. Fungi one also good but can't fullscreen images (??!) am I just being dim? I had a feeling a tree id app was on the cards :-) looking forward to that!!
  24. Showa gloves. Re-grip ones last the longest I reckon though come at a price. Chelsea dubbin on boots.
