1. Hello, Does anyone know of any recognised guidance for managing areas with tumuli and woodbanks? I am writing a management plan for a woodland that has both in and wanted to include something in the operations so that any contractor knew what was allowed/expected of them. A google search didn't find anything of use so I am here asking for help from the knowledgeable arbtalkers :thumbup1:
2. I used ipostparcels.com to get saws sent to spud on his recommendation and had no problems.
3. Sorry but you'll have to explain what this is please mate.
4. That's exactly the sort of thing I was hoping for. Blades are only £25-£30 so might give them a go. Do they last long?
5. Just wanted to say that I have sent spud aka Steve 4 saws over the past few months in various stages of disrepair and he has worked wonders with all of them and is very reasonably priced too, not to mention honest about what's worth fixing and what's not. If anyone is fed up with sub standard repairs from local dealers like I was then I would highly recommend paying the £8 or so postage and sending your saws Steve's way. Should be on some sort of commission here maybe ??!!
6. Yeah not using the stuff, just clearing it to get even aged larger coupes back into a 7 year rotation. Probably 2.5 acres in total so It seems that it might have to be a chainsaw effort.
7. I've got quite a large amount of hazel to be cleared which is only 10-20mm in diameter as part of neglected coppice. These are areas cut in the last 2-3 years by a spar maker but it has now left a mosiac of different age hazel. I am cutting the larger diameter rods (stools) with a chainsaw but wondered if it would be possible to cut the smaller stuff with a clearance saw? Has anyone tried this and will it just leave a ragged finish? The stools are about 2 foot diameter on average Thanks Alan
8. Thanks for that - it explains why I cant find it anywhere! Thats interesting about when to use it as the FC guidance I think talks about them being used and effective from March upto August. So - plan b, has anyone got any excess warfarin in the Dorset area that they are unlikely to use by 30th September 2015?? Alan
9. I have sourced the hoppers and the use of warfarin appears to be ok until 30th September so I now need to source the warfarin. I was hoping to mix my own but can't find anyone selling the liquid warfarin but cant find any suppliers (even through Killgerm?). Any one bought this stuff and if so, where from? What a grey area - excuse the pun!!
10. I'm really keen on the light guage mesh as opposed to the plastic as it'll be easier to reuse. What's the maximum gap between posts you reckon I could get away with this as I'm on a tight budget (as always seems to be the case in forestry) and the 80% WIG grant is a pee in the ocean of the total cost (not sure where they get their figures!!).
11. Can't believe someone farted on the forum at 2am and I didn't receive a notification. What thread was that ........????
12. A flier through the door may be more effective.
13. Now now boys. Let's not make it personal. I think PMs maybe the cause here ?!
14. Did you notice the buds - where they opposite or alternate? What colour where they? My first guess is sycamore.
15. And now we know it annoys people, there's a chance it will be done all the more 😉
16. I sometimes put PM sent as people seem to read threads more than they check their messages, so it speeds things up. Life is too short to get annoyed at 'PM sent'!!
17. Hi James, I have sent you a message asking where you get you're deer fencing supplies. Thanks Alan
18.

Hi James,

19. Parish magazines work well around our way - do they have them everywhere??
20. Don't we have the lowest treed cover (by %) in Europe I think I read somewhere, looking at both woodland and amenity trees? If I'm right I think it speaks volumes.
21. And I know the pub you mean in manaton as I stayed there a couple of nights there last year.
22. I am jealous, it's a lovely spot.👍
23. I just bought some from these people (they are in honiton which I think is actually Devon?). Always had good quality from them.
