  1. I've just noticed the chainsaw forum so I'll move this to there !
  2. I'm in Dorset and looking for exactly the same so if you find anything.....
  3. My trusty Husqvarna 257XP (til now anyway !) needs some help. Chain brake clicks on at the slightest of movement on the saw so I can't use it. Even if I tilt the saw slightly it comes on. Has anyone got any experience of this? My local repair place didn't really seem to know what the problem was and said it would need a complete new chain brake assembly (including handle) at around £100. Somebody else said to pick up a second hand one and even the 254 part would fit. I could appreciate some advice if anyone knows about this sort of thing.
  4. I have recently taken over the management of 23 ha dorset woodland of predominantly hazel coppice with oak and sweet chestnut standards which started as an assignment for a distance learning degree and has now become a project/hobby! There are some biggish standards with 80-120 cm dbh but not particularly great quality (low-medium). I've had a cabinet maker in and he said he would be interested in the straighter, dead knot free stuff. A local rustic furniture maker suggested getting a mobile mill in to plank the lot and selling it on then. I don't have the experience to know what to do in this scenario, so would appreciate any advice that anybody could give on this or marketing timber in general. If the logs are all felled and planked, what sizes should they be cut to and who should I aim to sell the lower grade planks to and how do I market them? There is also 30 cubic metres of norway spruce from a small PAWS area coming out this winter (20-30cm diameter). Is bio-fuels the only way for this? So many questions, these are only the tip of the iceberg...... Regards, Alan
  5. We ran Aspen in our 3 MS200t's about 5 years ago when my boss was looking to be an Aspen rep and the saws didn't like it at all. We ended up reverting back to regular 2-stroke after a very short period of time. I am not technically minded so can't explain why but I do know that they didn't go together. Of course, Aspen may have changed slightly since then..... I was speaking to the person advertising Aspen at the APF a couple of years back about this problem with theMS200s and he said it was a recognised problem?
  6. I've found a 23ha ASNW site of hazel coppice with oak standards owned by a local farmer which hasn't had any formal management for about 50 years. Going back on Friday to get some photos and complete the mapping. I am just going to look for CMS as suggested, thanks.
  7. Rob, you beat me to it. I was gonna post a similar thread but you have saved me the effort.
  8. Hi, I am required to do a tree inspection report for an assignment for my FdSc Arb (online) course. A few of you may be in a similar position:confused1: I am fairly happy with doing the actual inspection but I have no experience in completing a report on it. I was hoping the more experienced arborists out there may be willing to donate me some examples to aide me for layout / content? Thanks in Advance Alan
  9. A few people have indicated that Propellar chemical rots the leather and/or waterproof coating on their boots. Has anyone else found this? Does anyone else use Propellar regularly and disagree with this? Has anyone not completed my survey on woodland biosecurity and would like to? - See link below BIOSECURITY AND PHYTOPHTHORA QUESTIONNAIRE Thanks Alan
  10. Just a reminder for the link to the survey for those of you that havent yet completed it - BIOSECURITY AND PHYTOPHTHORA QUESTIONNAIRE Also, it has been suggested that chainsaw opperative may not be willing to use the Propellar Chemical as they think it may be rotting their boots. Does anyone agree or disagree with this?
  11. Yes, you caught me out, its Alan.
  12. Hi, I am currently undergoing a project which is looking at biosecurity as a tool in the fight against Phytophthora spp. I am currently still at the 'research' phase and would be really grateful if any of you out there who work in forestry, own woodland or visit woodland frequently (even socially) could take a few minutes to complete this survey. BIOSECURITY AND PHYTOPHTHORA QUESTIONNAIRE It is only 10 questions, most of which are tick box answers so should only take a few minutes of your time and would be greatly appreciated. ~Thanks
